  1. I do not expect it to be too much of an issue on the Radiance. Our last few cruises to Alaska have not had very many D's and up.

I do expect that there are going to be high numbers on what is left of the Mariner Odyssey.

As good as RCL's commutations and IT is they may not get the messages about the new policy all the may to the Mariner.

They were going to start the policy on the Radiance on the Circumnavigation of Australia and NZ which always has a lot of Diamonds, D+ and Pinnacles but decided against it. I think it's sensible to start it on an Alaskan cruise where there will be less loyalty guests.

I remember the debacle on the Explorer TP in 2016 (which by memory you were on) and I think there will be a whole lot more on the Mariner. I guess they will shut the DL down completely again. Not long now until we find out:D

  2. Just ending a lovely 11 night cruise on Serenade (arriving back to Fort Lauderdale 3/9). Our Diamond Lounge concierge Mario informed us that they were not allowed to open the lounge for overflow into the Vortex. Only 30 seats available. So...people had to line up to get their drinks and appetizers. Leave the lounge and go around the corner to sit in the Vortex! Doesn’t sound bad but a needless imposition to place upon your loyal customers when all they had to do was slide open the wall! I hope this issue receives some additional thought by the executives.

Same thing will start on the Radiance when it gets to Alaska.

We have just gotten off the Voyager and both the DL and CL were packed until around 6pm every night (which is usual, I know). Some people go to the DL and sit there the whole day so that they can get a seat for the evening freebies.

Referring to an earlier post about this - it would be very hard for them to restrict the number of drinks in the DL or CL because they are flat out getting drinks for thirsty patrons (wow they are thirsty!) and would have no time to swipe cards as well.

I am waiting to see what happens on the Mariner, Singapore to Barcelona as there will be a gazillion Diamonds, Diamond Plus and Pinnacle members:eek:

  3. Would that be the over the top cruise to Perth?

Do you have the internet package? If you do, can you update us on how you went with the water as we are on the next cruise, Perth to Sydney via NZ.

It seems the situation is similar if you bring a few cans of cool drink on board, they policy says no, but the main RC page reports they are rarely confiscated.

Would you also add if you have a kettle in your room. RC are very inconsistent with kettles. They are in ships in Aust waters for some itineraries but not on others. They were on Radiance for 'Rock the Boat' but I've heard they don't have them now.

    Thanks

Royal aren’t inconsistent with kettles. Kettles are in all JS, GS, OS and RS. You can ask your Cabin Steward for one if you are not in a Suite and IF there is one available they will give you one. You can no longer bring your own kettle on board.

  4. This is the way I post my photos:

    Go to: www.tinypic.com

    Click on FILE/CHOOSE FILE

It will take you to where you want to upload your photo from. In my case, it is usually from My Pictures so I will use that as my example -

Double click on the Photo you want to upload

In the "Resize" box - use the down arrow to scroll down to 17" Screen and click on it and then

    Click on 'UPLOAD NOW'

You will have to 'answer' the security code which they will give you (type it in the box) and then UPLOAD NOW

Wait for the picture to upload - it can take a minute or two

Once the photo has uploaded you will see four boxes. In the box - IMG Code for Forums and Message Boards - Highlight and copy the IMG Code make sure you copy at both the beginning and end of the Code

Go to your CC comment box where you want to post your photo and paste your

    code.

Then click the PREVIEW button and you should be able to see your photo. You can then go back and continue on with your comment or post another photo.

    Hope this helps

    Cheers

  5. There is quite a bit of vibration in the aft portion of the Radiance class ships...and it's a VERY long walk to and from those cabins....a definite "con", IMO. The "hump" area is very convenient.

We try and book either 1600, 1602 or 1100 and Radiance is our preferred ship. Never experienced vibration on Radiance. The hump is convenient but noisy due to the Centrum entertainment every night.

  6. Totally agree Di. I don't understand why some people are defending RC and their crappy customer service. I'll now be looking at other cruise liners in the future

Well, I guess we all like to defend the line we are loyal to and generally, Royal offers a lot of good however this is not right and it needs addressing. As you have inferred, there should be an option box that you can tick as to whether you would prefer the OBC or the balcony discount.

  7. I'm D+ and the OBC Royal offers on their special sales is not combinable with the balcony discounts.

That may well be BUT the balcony discount is supposed to be a perk, not a penalty. We are being penalised for being loyal. If it were the case that the balcony discount was $US400 I would have no problem but it wasn't, it was $AU292.00 which on today's conversion is $US221.48 - a far cry from the $US400.

They should either make our balcony discount $US400 or reduce the OBC to $US178.52.

  8. The OP is 100% correct. I have today written to C&A. I have been having trouble with my Crown and Anchor online membership due to some supposed "glitch" with my birth date.

We decided to do a 'last cruise' on the Voyager (Voyager is leaving Australia). All we could get was a JS which was fine. It was advertised to have $US400 OBC. Due to the glitch with my C&A, I couldn't put in my C&A number and the booking was "held" with an invoice for $AU4,082.00 and $US400 OBC.

Once we were able to apply my C&A number, the price went down to $AU3,792.00 BUT no $US400 OBC. Because of loyalty, we are now down US$110.

As I have said in my email to them, why is a 'perk' now a 'penalty'.

  9. Have you given any consideration to doing one of the Charters on the Radiance. We have done a couple and got off the Cruise-n-Groove on Tuesday. The music on them is fantastic. We had KC & the Sunshine Band, Boney M, Marcia Hines, Mi-Sex, etc, etc. They are pricey if you want to choose your own cabin but they always sell cabins on a Guarantee basis and for the quality of the entertainment - worth it. I'm sure you wouldn't have as much trouble getting an Accessible cabin. For a balcony guarantee it was $3,600 for two all up (8 nights). Insides went down to $1,100pp.

Great to hear you are back cruising:)

  10. Thank you to everybody for your good wishes (except Gut of course :D) My face has almost gone back to normal (cue Mr Gut for a cheeky oximoron remark ) Just cannot yet blink with my left eye.

We are jumping on the Carnival Legend today for a quick three nighter (ah yes ..the infamous booze cruise) and then the good or bad news is that I will be starting back on the 7th November.

Yes Gae, we are doing NCL so I will see you on the 12th Nov. Not sure if I will actually be doing check in on that day but just ask someone where I am

Glad to hear you are better:D. On the Explorer on Thursday so hopefully see you then.

    Cheers

  11. NO Di I will not be there on Monday. Unfortunately I was struck down with Bells Palsy a week or so ago and sadly it takes a bit of time to come right. I hope to be back on deck in November, fingers crossed ( Not much good working with only HALF a smiling face 😄

Sorry to hear that. I hope you have a speedy recovery and hopefully look forward to seeing you in November (9th).

  12. Thanks - that is very helpful. Could you ask your friend about Internet access - are there any perks available on RCC. I know Celebrity does for suite passengers according to my reading. Thanks again.

No free internet for Suite guests - only Pinnacles get free internet. Under the loyalty program, there is 'some' complimentary internet - the most being two days (doesn't have to be consecutive) for Diamond Plus.

  13. I've been told I was never a kid....old soul.

I obviously wasn't one either because in "those days" we HAD to go to school.

In the land of OZ, the parents couldn't give two hoots about whether their kids are missing out on school so long as it saves them enough money to spend in the bars whilst their kids are pressing elevator buttons;p
