  1. First time cruiser to Royal, I understand with speciality dining it is an extra cost, just wondering how this works.

Do you pay a one off price per person e.g. $20 and eat what you like from the menu or

Do you pay like a regular restaurant, pay for each item/meal ordered.

If you buy the speciality dining packages eg. 3 restaurants how does this work please.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Welcome to the world of Royal Caribbean:)

Specialty Dining is an extra cost but IMO well worth it. You can buy a package that will include Chops, Giovannis, Izumi and Samba Grill. We find they generally want to feed you everything that is on the menu:eek:

Rita's Cantina is no longer on the Radiance - it is now the Crab Shack and that is pay for what you eat. Izumi is a little different in that you are allocated an amount. We have never gone over the amount allowed for food - just the wine:(

You can also buy a package that will include Chef's Table.

When we were on the Legend coming to Australia from Hong Kong (got off last Sunday) it was $US30 for Chops.

If you are going to buy a package, I suggest you buy it on the ship as the price will be the same as you pay online. Generally, the package gives you a free meal.

We always buy at least one package and we usually do that whilst sitting in Windjammers for lunch on Day One. Someone from one of the Specialty Restaurants will be walking around the tables selling the packages - no need to queue, trust me, they will come to you:)

Which cruise are you doing on the Radiance? You should join the roll call for your cruise and register for the Meet and Mingle.

  2. You also get another welcome aboard gift. Once the C&A site recognizes you as D+ sign in to your account and select your preferences. Take the link on the left side if the screen where it says gift preferences. It's things like a fruit & cheese tray or a bottle of wine.

We were just on the Legend and we had a bowl of fruit and a (glass) bottle of Evian which was because it was a suite and we have noticed this for some time. They don't seem to give the little baskets of nuts anymore but these seem to have been replaced with some shortbread biscuits and almonds. I can't remember at which "point" the bottle(s) of wine kicks in.

  3. In Australia you can still "hold" as I did so on Friday afternoon.

I was having difficulty with retaining a cabin on hold if I put in my C&A number. If I didn't put it in, it held:rolleyes: I rang Royal and was told that it was a glitch but that glitch went on for some time. It does now seem to be okay, hence the hold on Friday.

I cannot use Internet Explorer or Chrome to access Royal Caribbean's site at the moment. It comes up as "Denied Access". I thought my husband had done something to my computer to stop me booking cruises:eek: I am now only able to use Firefox.

  4. Hi Pete,

You will have to wait until the Legend:cool:

They actually posted our pins to us but generally they will be waiting for you in your cabin when you board the Legend.

I don't recall any "gift" but you will start getting a complimentary bottle of wine in your cabin (check your C&A Profile to indicate your choice) around about becoming Diamond Plus time and then the number of bottles grows:D and Tony gets some beers:cool:

If you haven't already received your first block it "should" be in your cabin when you arrive and in this case it would be an Ovation block. If not, ask the C&A Ambassador for it.

    Say hi to Jodi,

  5. I have rather enjoyed following this thread:

    http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2413339

But it brings up a rather serious issue for me. How to differentiate myself from all the Australians on the ship.

Don't get me wrong, Australia is great. For instance, I drive a Holden, shop at Australian stores that have set up here and watch Australian TV programmes. I also like to visit Australia. My late grandmother was even born in Wonthaggi.

I don't want the poms or yanks asking what state New Zealand is a part of. Or saying that our flag is missing some stars and our coins are weird.

Now as a female, budgie smugglers aren't an option. And I have to keep it classy. I already checked and you can't get a swandri dress and red band gumboot high heels.

Surely someone would have a suggestion or two?

Sent from my iPad using Forums

As a Kiwi, I dress the same way I always dress. In all our cruises, I have never had anyone ask any questions or make comments regarding those you raised. Most comment on how beautiful NZ is.

Perhaps if you really want to, you could wear an AB's jersey:)

Be yourself and be a proud Kiwi.

  6. We did an 18 night Regent cruise and enjoyed it. We did notice that most passengers spent their days in their suites and only came out for breakfast, lunch and then cocktails and dinner in the evening. Other thing is that if you want to do that class of ship, we found the age group a little more senior than the OP;).

Maybe start with a suite with Royal and if you don't like it, try another brand.

  7. Here are some pics of grand suite 1556 on Radiance but these where taken in July 2013. I am not sure what the color scheme is now since I think she has had a dry dock.

I think we had 1556 on the 2013 TP to Honolulu. You look like you had it in Alaska:) Unfortunately, it seems it will be the same. I believe they didn't do the cabins. We had Owners Suites booked for our upcoming Radiance cruises but have dropped back to Grand Suites as they are in better condition than we experienced on our last Radiance cruise.

  8. GS1556 on the Radiance is the same as 1554. We have had both with 1554 being our favourite ONLY because where the doors open, it is slightly wider than 1556.

Here are some photos of 1554 (I don't think I ever took any of 1556). To get the full benefit of both 1554 and 1556, push the curtains right back and then slide the doors as you can see I have done. It really has the wow effect.

The only advantage 1556 has over 1554 is privacy. 1554 looks straight into 1552's bedroom:eek:

    Here is 1554:

  9. I don't know how many of you have been to Noumea lately but I notice on another thread just how many people would rather stay on board whilst the ship docks in Noumea and I make no apology, I loathe the place.

I will only get off the ship in Noumea if we are travelling with friends who are visiting for the first time. This happened on the TP in April on the Explorer and what a difference.

The people were so friendly. Tooting their horns and waving whenever a cruiseship tour went by. We took our US friends on the little train and as we went past the school, all the kids came out to the fence and waved and yelled "Welcome".

So, the Nickel Mines are almost gone and they all of a sudden need the previously hated cruiseship passengers. Well sorry Noumea, I ain't buying. Even if we have friends travelling with us in future, we will be staying on board.

  10. I'm on the Radiance; according to the above I'm unaffected?

$100 for a port ain't half bad. Especially since I've been there. I would've taken that!

The info I got from the Royal Rep is that the Radiance and Legend would still be going there. It is only for the Voyager and Explorer (size).

I haven't seen you on the roll call - have I?

  11. Maybe, to disembark the larger number of passengers within a reasonable time frame, they would need to use more tenders and tie up two at a time at the jetty.

Yes, I think you are right. Whilst I don't remember going to Lifou on the Explorer - in order to get so many off the Explorer within a reasonable time frame they had a minimum of four tenders in the water and that often meant two (and in some cases, three) tenders tied up the jetty at once and other(s) waiting to get in.

  12. No one can ever really predict fares, but I would say yes there is a good chance of some cheap fly/cruise deals. This cruise for some reason doesn't go to Tahiti but goes straight to Fiji. Having said that you can never guarantee anything re pricing.

We did this cruise in April - Sydney to Seattle. Not very exciting I'm afraid.

We had lunch with the Hotel Director on the Explorer and I asked why we had this less than fantastic itinerary and the reason for it going to Fiji for two days:(. He explained it is because the Voyager and the Explorer were designed to do 7 night cruises (mainly the Caribbean) and the amount of food, etc that can be stored is small. Fiji is 'certified' to restock the ship. The ship will then go straight to Honolulu etc - another restock.

Other ships were also designed to only do 7 night cruises but their (food/beverage) storage capacity is greater.

It is interesting that the Explorer does this cruise as it is the only Royal Caribbean cruise that is 24 nights (the longest single cruise) - others are back-to-back cruises. You would think they would have put on a ship that has a grater capacity to carry food.

Enjoy the cruise if you go - lots of sea days which for us is a bonus.

  13. Does anyone have pictures of this room looking from the inside out to the balcony? I read that there was some window washing equipment that makes it a partially obstructed view. I have not been able to find out any more info or pictures.

Also, how is the noise from above?

    Thanks

The window washing equipment is at the end of the balcony of JS1598 and JS1098.

You may get some noise from above though.
