  1. Green apples, ginger tablets or Travacalm are great if you are feeling a bit squeamish. The tablets they give you at the desk may help you in moderate seas (3 to 5 metres) they will not be of any help in rough seas. Call me a cynic but I can only assume they give you these complimentary tablets so that the inexperienced cruisers will have to pay the $100 for the injection. For over 5m and having cruised in 15m seas on numerous occasions - give me Bonine anytime. Avomine is also excellent but causes drowsiness that Bonine doesn't. Avomine can be bought in chemists here in Australia, Bonine can only be bought on the U.S. Ships or eBay.

There is nothing worse than seasickness - deal with it before it has any chance of ruining your cruise.

  2. Hi All,

Can someone please tell me if Australian plugs (such as in hair dryers, phone charges etc) plug straight into the power points in the cabins or do I need to take an adapter and if so what kind? Thanks in anticipation.

No, you will need adaptors. There are both US and English outlets in every cabin. The English adaptors/outlets are stronger. For your hair dryer - I have a Vidal Sassoon Travel hairdryer 2000w (bought it from the Good Guys for about $28) and it works much better than your standard hair dryer. There should be a hairdryer in your cabin but they're not very powerful.

    Enjoy your cruise.

  3. Hi,

We are off to NZ with Royal in March 2017.

I can be a little prone to sea sickness and am usually fine when I take medication.

When we sailed in Hawaii I had Dramamine Non-Drowsy (Trade name) which is Meclizine (known as Bonine is US as well) and we had some big swells but I was fine. Australia doesn't have this medication  I don't find the stuff here as great, and find it leaves me with more side effects like dry mouth etc.

I was reading on some other threads that Royal supply Meclizine on board - does anyone know if that is true for Australian sailings as it isn't a drug we use here, or do they have to use Australian approved drugs?

I would be so happy to be able to get it on the ship.... otherwise try to find a way to legally import it.

    Thanks

You can buy them on board Royal Caribbean ships in Australia. They come in a blue box of 8 for about $US8.50. You will (generally) find them in the shop where they sell chocolates, chips and toiletries. They are the best.

  4. We have booked this Vista Suite on the Diamond and have read a few posts relating to a stench from the vent on Dolphin Deck.

Has anyone "recently" stayed in D739 and if so, was there any stench?

We spend a lot of time on our balcony and this cruise is to the South Pacific where it can get pretty warm.

    Thanks.

  5. We have booked. We did the Rugby World Cup B2B on the Rhapsody in 2011 and the Cruise n Groove in 2013, both totally different cruises but both by the same company who for obvious reasons, shall remain nameless. Different RCI rules applied;)

This is a great line-up and looking forward to it. I rang "the company" today asking if the quarter finals for the Rugby World Cup will be screened and he told me that they would endeavour to show them but it was subject to satellite. I remember on the Rhapsody they (did their best to) unscramble the games and then show them.

He also ensured me that in the meantime there would be would be great entertainment:). As the games will not interfere with the entertainment, it will be a bonus.

  6. Are you asking about Hanna on the Radiance? When we were last on board, she had given her notice and was just waiting for her contract to end.

Her first cruise was with us on the 19th April (Transpacific) and her contract was until August. She didn't last long.

    Thanks for your reply.

  7. Thanks for that Di. I saw some not so great comments about your cruise....did you enjoy it? I would love to try an aft facing cabin, maybe next cruise! We are booked in 8566 and all the JS are booked out for our cruise, so don't think we'd be able to change. Did you find there was a lot of movement? :) :)

We enjoyed the Legend and loved that aft-facing balcony. When on Vision Class we always take an aft-facing JS because the noise from above in a GS or OS is too much for me (I'm a light sleeper). We had a bit of soot a couple of mornings but movement was okay except for one night in rough seas, so to be expected down the back.

I'm not sure why people didn't enjoy the cruise although we did spend a lot of time on our balcony. We were late leaving Honolulu (actually didn't leave until lunchtime the following day) and I noticed a lot of people swapping cabins and got the impression there may have been a major sewerage problem but as you know, they rarely ever tell you what the problem is/was.

We will definitely cruise on the Legend again.

  8. We cruised on the Legend Honolulu to Sydney in May/June and there were two bathrobes in the cupboard.

We had an aft-facing JS which was 8086 - the best. The corner aft-facing JS on the Legend are not like the Rhapsody. They don't wrap around and in fact are quite a bit smaller than 8086, 8084 and 8085 - here are some photos:

  9. Thanks Di & Ken,

That's some good info. I have emailed my TA with a link to the RCI T&C page that shows the variations for Australia and (hopefully) they'll be able to sort it all out for us.

Yep .. we'll be in GS1032. Given we can take a couple of bottles on board with us, drop in for a nice glass of Champagne early .. before it runs out!

Great news. Look forward to meeting you - how did you know I just love Champagne:p. Just remember to take your Champagne and/or wine in your carry on, otherwise it will be confiscated:(

  10. Have you checked the age requirement out of Australia? Your 19 year old can drink because that is our drinking age and it is permitted by Royal Caribbean for ships sailing from Australia. If the ship is out of the USA, they have to be 21+. So perhaps the same rule applies to the age in the cabin. Worth asking.

You said late December; are you on the 26th December? We are on there and will be in GS1060.

  11. We did the Trans Pacific in April/May on Radiance. Was my favourite ship but hmmm. Food generally was not good. Chops was not good. Chef's Table was a disgrace. Condition of the ship was okay; it's due for a refurb next year (but you probably know that).

It won't stop us cruising on the Radiance - we just put it down to a massive crew change in Sydney immediately prior to sailing.

  12. We just paid $220 for 17 nights on the Legend (24 May) and I think we paid a tad more for 18 nights on the Radiance (19 April) - both included the Diamond Plus discount. I thought it had gone down in price and quite frankly, we were happy with the price.

We had quite a bit of complimentary internet on the RSS Mariner but once we exceeded that (and we did:cool:) I think it was $14 per day.

If I needed to contact someone at home and didn't want to pay the price of the Internet, I would use my cell/mobile phone if it was urgent, otherwise so many of the Ports offer free internet.

It's a shame you choose not to cruise anymore with Royal because of Internet prices but that's your call.

    Cheers

  13. It depends on the tour. Some tours have to be especially arranged and bookings made to fit in with the ships timetable etc.

People go on about the extra expense of the Tairere Gorge Rail trip from the ship, but they dont realise that a special iicence has to be applied for and the line through the tunnel has to have a special inspection and roads have to be notified and closed when the train goes through etc etc.

Sorry David, having done the Taieri Gorge train trip independently of the ship on numerous occasions, I don't understand your point. The trip independently is (about) half the price offered by the ship for the same thing. Only difference being with the ship's tour the train comes to the ship and the independent tour means getting yourself to Dunedin Train Station which is a treat in itself.

    Am I missing something?
