  1. Thanks for the tip on a rear cabin for those of us who get sea sick. A cabin at the rear of the ship could be a decision I could regret for a longer cruise, I've always wondered about this.

The aft-facers are fantastic. There is a little more movement than mid-ship but not as bad as forward and you can't get photos like this on the side of the ship:

  2. Interesting observation

I was working on the Explorer turnaround yesterday actually doing the "A Pass" security, scanning the guests sea pass..." DING"... as they boarded the ship. Out of probably the first three or four hundred passengers I doubt if I saw twenty people use the hand sanitizers ,which they had to walk straight past to get to the security scanner. It was only when a couple of guests stopped to use it that the "sheep" :) behind them did the same. Even saw a few people put the sea pass in their mouth while sanitizing their hands before taking it out again and handing it to me for scanning :eek::eek: so I guess not too many cruisers really take the risk seriously , even considering they were just delayed boarding by a few hours for that very reason.

Oh Well guess we can always delay the next cruise so the crew can fully sanitise the ship and terminal again:mad:

Could not believe though we had channels 7,9 & 10 all down at the pier reporting on this "earth shattering news". I reckon more people would have got sick by watching those pathetic breakfast programs than would have got crook on the entire cruise. :D

Where's the LIKE button? 182 people out of how many thousand on board?? I know it's not nice but really???

We are currently on the Diamond. I went up to get some Guacamole in the Elite Lounge on Wednesday night (after this news had broken) and there was a man with his hands (not fingers) in the Corn Chips bowl instead of using the tongs that were provided. I told him that it was people like him that caused Noro Virus outbreaks. He was very embarrassed, as he should have been and the Corn Chips were taken away.

It's simple, wash your hands and use the tongs.

  3. The Potts Point area of Sydney is not a savoury area for a solo female traveller new to this area as it is very close to the famous Kings Cross district which in my opinion you would be best to avoid. Suggest you look around for something closer to the Sydney CBD or Sydney Harbour (Circular Quay) where train service is also very good. Just google Sydney Australia Hotel Accommodation. I'm sure you can find something.

Good advice. Personally, stay at the Amora on Jamieson but the Travelodge and/or the Menzies all in same/excellent location.

  4. I agree that those of us that pay premium prices to stay in suites should be rewarded more than those than rack up nights on interior cabins. I am tired of seeing Diamond and Pinnacles that have never spent a dime on premium cabins!

Where's the "like" button? As a Suite "payer" and Diamond Plus member, there is a difference in "attitude". Sick of doing Trans Pacific cruises (and others of the like) and listening to Loud Mouths of how many cruises they have done - they talk at each other as opposed to talking to each other. In Australia, I hate listening to Inside Cabin dwellers who have achieved Diamond Plus cruisers raving on about how special they are but who don't show up on the last night so they can avoid paying tips:mad:

Whilst I do believe in a Loyalty Program, regardless of cabins chosen, I think they will move the Pinnacle and Diamond Plus members into the DL and the Diamond members into the bar(s) with complimentary drinks for the simple reason, the current Lounges just can't cope with the influx of new Diamond/Diamond Plus members, not to mention the amount of Pinnacles coming through.

If the current "Diamond Lounge" was made a Pinnacle and Diamond Plus Lounge it would have more credibility and due to increasing numbers, perhaps it will eventually become a Concierge Lounge and a Pinnacle Lounge with Diamond Plus members having complimentary drinks in the bar(s) and the Diamond members losing that perk altogether.

  5. Although there are conflicting reports, it seems he only arrived back in Auckland last night after the RWC. Whatever the final cause, he will remain a wonderful sportsman and a very much loved and admired New Zealander. Our family room walls are full of sporting photographs and your signed copy takes pride of place. I am so very sad.

Deepest sympathy to his wife and children.

    Vale Jonah Lomu.

  6. Skipping Akaroa.

    A tad windy.

Scan display at one stage saud force 12.

That's a shame GUT. It doesn't take much for them to cancel Akaroa but Force 12?

As you know, we missed a couple of Ports in the Pacific immediately before your cruise. The Diamond isn't having a good run with weather and we are back on her in a few weeks for NZ so I hope the weather improves for all our sakes.

Enjoy the rest of your cruise.

  7. we are interested in picton

I can highly recommend Helen at Naclachan Wine Tours.

    Her email is: helen@naclachan.co.nz

    Her website is: http://www.naclachan.co.nz

    This is a youtube funny:

I am about to introduce yet another van full of people when we are in Picton on the Diamond in a few weeks. I promise you a very fun day with a highly respected tour guide in Helen. This will be about our sixth time with Helen. If you put it up on your roll call, you will find a van fills very quickly.

Sorry, I am editing this because if you tell her Di sent you - the price will be better.

  8. IMHO Diamond and Diamond Plus Balcony Discounts should be available regardless of other offerings. Other people are going to benefit from the "other offerings" regardless of their status, so why shouldn't you/me as a loyal Royal cruiser, retain the discount regardless? Just my opinion.

  9. Really you can get 4 bottles on board. Pack 2 in your suitcases and take 2 in your carry on. They can't correlate the two at all. (Though now I've said it they'll probably figure out a way:()

If they find the bottles in your checked in luggage it is an automatic confiscation and in fairness to them, they do warn you and I know many people who have been "done". As far as not being able to correlate the two, the rule is simple, if it's found in your "check in luggage" it's confiscated:(. They don't care whether it's an innocent mistake or not.

I just wish they would adopt the Princess policy and charge corkage after your first two but Royal are hellbent on ripping us off and after our Explorer cruise, I doubt we will cruise with them again - damn, so close to Pinnacle. I also wish they would offer some decent Australian and NZ wines instead of the offensive rubbish they try and flog.

  10. But if I do that I won't get a suite! :D:p Gosh it's easy to become greedy....

But seriously - really wondering now if should just leave it to chance (as long as they definitely won't downgrade), or call and ask to stay where I am?

Hi Cassie, the hump cabins are in a great position and bigger balcony:). I would stay there.

You won't be downgraded so I would leave it and see if they do offer you an upgrade closer to your sailing date.

Have a great time - and have a Martini for me - I'll be there with you in spirit:D

  11. On the Diamond a couple of weeks ago, we got tender tickets for being in a suite but not for Elite. The crew keep an eye out and just escorted Suite and Elite down the other side of the stairs.

On Royal, we used to have to meet in either the Concierge or Diamond Lounge and then be escorted down in a group but now it is purely by card, whether you are in a suite or Diamond Plus or Diamond - just show your card.
