  1. Hi , has anybody used any other companies besides the usual suspects ie. Viking , APT , AMA , namely small asian companies to cruise the Mekong from Siem Reap to Saigon please , looking to travel March 2017 for our 25th anniversary , we are in UK so it would be difficult to use american companies such as Vantage , we will be booking flights ourselves as we plan to fly to Bangkok and stay there a week or so prior and would like to then travel to Bali following the cruise and a few nights in Siem Reap too so would like to try to save on the cruise if possible by using a local company , any help would be much appreciated , thank you

  2. We went to Hawaii with Princess in February and being a UK cruiser we did not get any discounts at all , the cruise did not go down in price but we did have a small amount of OBC , they have reduced the number of ships going to Hawaii apparently so are normally full enough not to offer any good discounts , but being UK does seem to go against us a lot with the american ships and booking prices

  3. If you are on this ship make a point of sitting and listening to the married couple in the chocolate bar/baghdad cafe area , Daniel plays instrumental guitar early evening then Giselle joins him to accompany him with her singing , they are both fabulous but are in an area that most people just pass instead of sitting and listening to them , they are worth your time , honestly.

  4. The Star is scheduled to be in Callao at 8 AM on March 19th and stay until 6 PM on March 20th. Will you be taking this private tour on the 1st day or 2nd day?

If on the 1st day, make sure that your private tour in Lima will give you a full refund if the ship is unable to dock in time to make the tour. When we docked there we were five hours late due to fog at the port. Even if you do dock at 8 AM, I doubt you could be at your Lima meeting point by 9 AM.

Of course, if your tour is on the 2nd day, you would have no problem timewise in getting to your tour, but likely not on a Princess bus. But be sure you aim to be back at the ship no later than 4:30 PM just in case traffic gets in the way of a quick return.

Thank you Caribill , no this tour is on the second day so I figure I may need to get a taxi after allowing enough time to get the port shuttle to the gates as it sounds as if that can take up to an hour in itself according to other posts , we have a different tour booked for the first day but it has been arranged by somebody else on our roll call

  5. Are you open to a private tour guide who can pick you up at the port itself?

The tour we want to book has quoted $64 extra to pick us up at the port so trying to find a cheaper alternative , a taxi doesnt seem too bad as long as we can get a reliable one as I hear that it can be a bit dodgy in that area , we can then maybe get the shuttle back as we need to be at the JW Marriott early in the morning

  6. Thank you everybody for your replies , our tour can pick us up at the JW Marriot hotel in Miraflores so the shuttle to the shopping mall sounds a good option , the only issue we may have then is that the shuttle buses would not start in time as we would need to be there about 9 am

  7. Princess ran a shuttle when we were on the Golden Princess last spring. As I recall there was no charge. It went from the port to a large shopping mall in Lima. The Callao port is industrial and very complicated and the area beyond the port gates is not somewhere you would want to wander. By the way, the traffic in Lima is terrible. Allow plenty of time for travel.

Thank you very much for your reply , you wouldnt know what time they started running the shuttle buses do you on the second day ?

  8. Hi

We will be on the Star Princess this coming March and was wondering if anybody knew if Princess provide a shuttle bus from Callao port to Lima town , if so where from and to and how much per person please ??

We want to pick up a tour that only picks up from certain parts of Lima

    Any info much appreciated

  9. Hi fellow cruisers

I have a price of $60 pp for a pick up at the dock and a 2 hour boat trip around the Ballestas Islands , this sounds quite expensive as I am sure I have read somewhere on cc that 20 was paid for the same trip but cannot find the post now , any advice please and are there plenty of vendors on the dock offering the same thing cheaper please , could we risk waiting until we docked to find somebody ?

  10. I can highly recommend NewWay Cagliari segway tours , my husband and I ( 55 & 53 ) booked the 2.5 hour old city tour with Ivo , he is patient and instructs you well before leaving for the tour , it is a great way of seeing the old city and having fun too , Ivo is very safety conscious during the tour , you have the use of audio headsets to listen to the history of the city

Cant wait to go back to book a different tour with Ivo

  11. For anybody that might be interested le terme taurine is an ancient ruins site close to Civitavecchia that nobody seems to visit , look it up on tripadvisor it has some excellent reviews and is an alternative for anybody not wanting to go into Rome

  12. Hi , does anybody has any information on Le terme Taurine and the bus that goes there and also any information on the baths of traiano , they are close to civitavecchia apparently , any help much appreciated

  13. Thanks for posting , we will be on the Star for the first time next month Feb 27 to Hawaii and again next year to South America , usually like to sail on different ships but couldn't avoid sailing on the Star again due to dates so very pleased by the good reports , have a great cruise

  14. We were on a Costa med cruise in October and the food was fine , not Princess standard ( we use Princess & Costa mostly ) but we also didn't pay american ship prices for the cruise so didn't expect 5 * standards , all the waiters were attentive and our room steward was brilliant , greeting us by name each time too , for the cost of a costa cruise you get what you pay for and we have enjoyed both of our cruises with them

  15. Thank you very much for your replies , all very helpful , we don't really want to drive as my husband gets too stressed when he doesn't know where he is going so Amtrak is certainly very interesting for us as we would get to see some of the countryside/scenery on the way , can't wait to start planning our trip now

  16. Are you talking about the duvet or its cover? The cover is washed; guaranteed. The duvet; those things need to be dry cleaned; they are like a heavy quilt. You cannot do that on a regular turnaround basis. Could you do that with yours at home? I think not. And the person who said their cover was not changed............UGH! That's their room steward cutting corners and I would never allow that to happen.

Thank you Pia1913 that is exactly what I mean !!!!

  17. Please help us understand how you know this to be fact?

The pure logistics make it very obvious , why dont you ask the manager of housekeeping next time you cruise but expect a positive answer as they know that is what you are looking for , hotels do not wash their duvets each changeover either , I am talking about the duvets themselves NOT the covers as previously mentioned , do you all expect the matresses to be cleaned each cruise too along with the toppers , come on get real !!:D
