  1. OK this cruise does sail the INSIDE PASSAGE ? - Sailing northbound ? or southbound ? Canadian Inside Passage mainland side of Vancouver Island The southern (Strait of Georgia) is a wide open stretch of water - sailing northward there would be amble daylight until reaching the Campbell River (Seymour Narrows) At that point sunset would begin to occur and diminishing light - going further north the Johnstone Strait would be in twilight darkness. With open water twilight is extended - in narrow channels (straits) lessor so. Sailing southbound the reverse of lighting daylight and the Strait of Georgia in dusk. Something seems a bit out of wack here with that 4 hour timing envelope 6:30-10:30pm It takes much longer than 4 hours to transit the whole Inside Passage - more closer to 12-15 hours
  2. Basic hotel lodgings and transportation to and from excursion events. Meals - some may be included i.e. box lunch - water and maybe some soft drinks. As for TIPS - token tip to room steward/maid at the hotel - anyone handling your heavy excess luggage - bus tour guide based on information presented this done at the end of travel. No rule of thumb or mandatory amount.
  3. INSIDE PASSAGE - any passage with - land - island - something between you and the open Pacific Ocean. Commonly the passage between Vancouver Island and the Canada mainland is what folks think is the Inside Passage - true it is - BUT there are also inside passages in the southeast panhandle of Alaska (USA). Ships sailing out of Seattle see the Alaska inside passageways - those sailing out of and returning to Vancouver see the Canadian one which is spectacular because of its narrowness - almost can reach out and touch land in passing.
  4. Options: Twin beds joined Twin beds split Bed(s) located near balcony Bed(s) located near closet restroom passageway entry Need a no cost change to the above call NCL - the longer you wait the fewer opportunities to change - - - Headboards are alternating every other cabin with feet facing forward to the direction of cruise or the reverse A pullman (pull down berth) will most always be in the center of the cabin
  5. B2B are normally two separate cruises - no need to wait for the points from that 1st cruise to be credited while on the 2nd leg - as previously noted contact the Cruise Next people while taking that 1st leg to set things in order.
  6. Check with the Cruise Next people on that first leg of the B2B for what to do. Usually a simple process on the second leg you get the perks - free laundry - a carton of water (what no bottle!) - and perhaps that fabulous bottle of château de Lame Duck faux champagne AND the best perk a specialty dinner with real wine. Make this transition easy - check during the first leg to set it up.
  7. If RRF (Railroad Dock Forward [nearest to the tracks and downtown]-) is compromised that takes two piers out of service - really bad news - tendering is possible to the small adjacent marina "BUT" two ships tendering would be a mad house. Hope Skagway brings in some heavy machinery and puts a quick fix on this. Since something similar happened in the past there should be a plan for that fix. Missing a port call at Skagway - is a really really a bum deal - ruining the Alaska experience !
  8. Must be that Hubbard glacier downunder - - -
  9. All of these you can do a self-guided walk **** Depending on your walk speed - interests and ship/port time you can trek out 3-5 miles or more - - - Sun Saint John, Bay of Fundy, New Brunswick 7:30 AM 4:00 PM 0 Mon Halifax, Nova Scotia 9:00 AM 6:00 PM 0 Tue Sydney, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia 9:00 AM 6:00 PM 0 Wed Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island 9:00 AM 6:00 PM 0
  10. Your biggest problem is that NCL don't now go back more than 12 months when looking for past cruises missing from your history, so unless you have detail of latitudes numbers that were related to those cruises then you are likely out of luck. Point well taken - after each cruise check out your Latitudes Point balance - get it corrected within the 12 month envelope of time ! The 9 month booking rule expired - no longer - so the maximum number of nightly points is -3- unless NCL states otherwise - 1 base point - 1 suite/haven point - 1 promo offer.
  11. Google Map for reference: Google Maps Steep Creek is in the middle of the image
  12. I recall what the OP is referring to - don't know if it was NCL or other cruise line I positioned a deck chair in an awkward way to flag my cabin location - my efficient cabin steward was about to undo my locator effort - caught him on the balcony repositioning the chair back to its original place. No loss here. Another way to locate your balcony cabin is turn on the deck light. Or pull the curtain half way and maybe pin something noticeable to it. Use cruisedeckplan and view the Pictures taken of the ship. But the best was having your cabin mate be on the balcony And of course this only works when your balcony faces the pier
  13. Deck 8 has a great deal of open WHITE space under deck 9 - Use cruisedeckplan's Drag Deck feature to see this. When comparing cabin location remember to use the elevators or stairways to aline the deck arrangement. As for what is in the WHITE spaces - a linen closet or cabin steward's utility closet would be a good guess - other possibilities an electrical vault - air conditioning ventilation - if near elevators a maintenance service closet. In some of those hidden WHITE spaces are crew (emergency exit) stairwells and crew elevators. Once on board pic-ed interest find out what is behind the WHITE space door ! NO !*! don't go nosing around - but read any labeling on the door - see if your cabin steward goes in and out - or maintenance people - take a quick peak before door closes !
  14. PRIME Reserved seating in the theatre is for the Garden Villa Deluxe Owners and Owners Suites There may be reserved seating for other suites - At show time if the reserve seating is not filled it becomes open seating - In some cases the reserved seating is not all that great - check out the theatre before hand. In a GV DOS OS check with your Concierge for this perk and escort. Not all ships offer beverage service in the theatre but it would be expected for the suites - Tip accordingly - - -
  15. Basic program - 1 point per day/night of the cruise In a Suite/Haven cabin - 1 additional point Booking a promotional cruise (Insider Offer/Past Guest) - add 1 more point Maximum points 3 per day/night unless specified otherwise.
  16. After airport check-in dumping luggage consider just simply hiring a taxi to do all that - distance from airport to downtown is less than 5 miles - Google Map for reference: Google Maps Zoom in for more detail - - -
  17. Nothing fancy - use your cell phone for those memorable pictures. The newer models have zoom telephoto capabilities Older models you can always photo shop the pictures And most have the video function. CAUTION - remember to charge the phone battery often - so that you can take more photos AND of course be able to use the phone as a phone Lack of phone picture memory - transfer the pix to another device frequently Cell phones are amazing - no need to spend big $$$s on D-SLR and their accessories
  18. Alaskan Mosquitos are like the Pirahna in the back waters of the Amazon. A scent of blood sweat tears in the air and a ravenous feast is about to commence ! Air movement - RUN - but you can't hide from them. It is not one bite but a series of bites causing one to do a slap dance number. Remember to check about the carriage of bug and other pest sprays in your carry-on airline baggage (number quantity limits) Bear spray is extremely critical !!!
  19. Tendering could be done - there is a marina facility between the 2 Railroad berths and the WPYRR depot. YES it would be a very tight fit with 4 cruise ships coming and going - but it is possible - - - AND YES There are too many ships sailing too few ports in Alaska "AHEM" - ALL AT THE SAME TIME ! Primary cruise ports: Ketchikan has 4 berths and adding 2 more at Ward Cove (NCL) helps a bit Juneau will be adding a 5th berth near the float plane facility Icy Strait Point has added 1 more for total of 2 was formerly a tender port Whittier has 1 and will be adding a new one Seward has 1 and a squeeze for a smaller ship making 2 Victoria can handle 2 ships Vancouver (Canada Place) 2-3-4 variable with the size of the ship Seattle has Pier 66 (NCL) and Pier 91
  20. There are 4 berths for 4 cruise ships - 2 at Railroad dock - 1 at Broadway and 1 at the Ore dock With 4 ships Skagway is maxed out on accommodations ! Tendering could be done - but - to what purpose. AND there is the limitation of Canada WPYRR train trips - not terribly helpful !
  21. Be careful - if traveling by air to the cruise port check about bug spray bear spray and the alike in carry on luggage - avoid having it confiscated - should be in checked hold baggage.
  22. What ship cruise line - itinerary - glacier ?
  23. Something is not quite right here ? Fraser is the launch point for most all of the combo bus/train excursions. Fraser is 7 miles beyond the Border crossing at the Summit. Did Canada finally throw in the towel and allow the WPYRR excursions to proceed pass the Summit ? I am sure if that did happen there would be a whole lot of hoopla on CC about that !
  24. General rule of thumb - you take a small carry-on piece with you daily with a change of clothes medicines cell photo gear on the tour bus. All the rest is moved daily/nightly to your next hotel lodging - the final leg the luggage is usually transported directly to the ship and your cabin door.
  25. More than 3 ounces don't put it in your airline carry-on baggage.
