  1. honestly, i find the tv selections disappointing.  while there is a fair amount of choice shows, there is only 1-2 episodes of each.  the movies are a good selection, some really recent popular movies, and a nice sprinkling of foreign/art house flicks as well.

my real complaint is lg tvs have some sort of motion smoothing that drives me insane because it makes everything look like an 80's soap opera.

i can't remember if they also have access to the sleep timer function.  my last vacation either the cruise or the hotel had the sleep timer function, and i can't remember which one did.

i seriously do not understand why hotels/ships block the sleep timer function of tv's, falling asleep to tv is a very common thing.  i'm firmly team fall asleep to tv.

that said, i have always found something to watch on princess. i'm just curious why airplanes have better tv than cruise ships.  i feel like the technology is there for better tv options.

  2. perfect display of confirmation bias.  "i didn't notice something when i was younger because it didn't affect me so it didn't exist."  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Confirmation_bias

peanut allergies have always existed, usually people just died and it was unexplained. medicine is always improving and so is information about allergies.  and while alleriges has a specific meaning relating to reacting to proteins and causing anaphylaxis, people understand allergy.  I could tell you that i have a sensitivity to buckwheat* that causes me to puke for 3 hours straight and then days of intestinal cramps, but that's a bit TMI, so i'll just tell you i can't eat buckwheat due to an allergy.  believe people when they say they have an allergy, even if it is just a preference, it really has no effect on you.  just ask for the cookie that is stored away from the other cookies so people with allergies can also enjoy their food.

it is perfectly acceptable to store the peanut butter cookies separately, i would maybe suggest princess add a sign about where to ask for them.  i know i'm going to ask for them myself on my cruise in may

*fun fact, buckwheat is typically used in soba noodles and in some gluten free recipes as a replacement for wheat flour.  buckwheat is not related to wheat at all and is related to rhubarb.

  3. i noticed the reputation point thing, no idea, it was automatically put there when i pasted the link and it converted it to a preview. might be a feature of the forums software that isn't currently being used so doesn't normally show for us.

  4. i don't solo cruise, but during the day my bf and i go our own ways.

we look at the patter before bed, find the trivia and plan to meet up at trivia.  we decide if we want to lunch together, i love lunch in the main dining room.  we also plan some time to walk around the promenade together.  we also look to see if any of the enrichment activities about the port are available.  some of the hawaii talks were fabulous and not just entirely a shopping pitch.  i'm hoping they have similar talks for alaska on my upcoming cruise.

i love the craft activities, so i look for those.  otherwise i have a WIP bag with my knitting, and kindle on my phone, and i find a place to chill.

we also like to take a day, usually first sea day, but sometimes later in the cruise, to take the paper map we got during embarkation and visit everything on the map.  our own scavenger hunt if you will.  you think you know a ship, but we were on the ruby a second time and found several places we had missed on our previous cruise.

i always pack a swimsuit, but somehow on all of my cruises, i have only gone swimming twice.

I am on the Golden for a 14 day Alaska cruise in May.  I upgraded to BSE because I needed the unlimited wifi.. My previous package only included 240 internet minutes.  My PVP told me that the BVE would be for about 5000 minutes per person - the value on my travel summery is $139.00 per person - but it does not state the number of minutes included,

However, my personalizer does not show this package at all under the internet packages available for purchase, so I think Princess has some packages that are not advertised.  And I'm hoping my PVP is correct!!

i am also on the golden for the may 16th 14 day alaska rt.  i also see the $139.58 charge for wifi.  i looked at the booking confirmation from my ta, which is on princess letter head and it says

*WI-FI is unlimited for all guests in the cabin, one device per guest.

i posted above also concerned since i didn't see an unlimited option available for purchase. i will have my documents with me onboard just in case, but i do not see any fineprint saying it is only for medallion net ships.

  6. what a great review! going through the canal is on my bucket list

crazy about the power going out. i'm glad it was super temporary

weird about PV port, when i went we must have docked at a different pier, because i could see the walmart from my balcony when i woke up, we walked off the ship, the "marketplace" was under construction, so we walked around it to the corner light, crossed the street and walked half a block to the walmart.  someone, not me, had broken their sunglasses. we ended up calling the uber from walmart to go to a taco place we wanted to go to.

  7. mine isn't earth shattering, but baked potato is available every night in the pain dining room.  also last time i wasn't feeling the food on the menu the last night, i think it was too rich or spicy, so i asked for shrimp cocktail no sauce and a caeser salad as my entree.  it was a delightful shrimp caeser salad, and is now on my list for when i'm wanting something a bit simpler/lighter for dinner but still want to eat in the main dining room.  sometimes, especially after i've had a migraine, my stomach just doesn't want all of the rich foods or new flavors.

In the link I posted a few hours back, the couple indicated they went to medical to complain. Sound like their interests were jaded. After going to medical they said princess was slow to respond. Still no indication they told the steward or hotel staff.

yes, several news sites have picked it up from the pr link.  i'm still saying the whole story is advertisement for this law firm.

  9. so i'm calling shenanigans.  i believe that PR site is just a place where anyone who pays can have a press release.  this press release was from an obvious ambulance chaser, or should i say bug chaser, law firm and this is free advertisement.

i expect if properly reported on board, princesss would fix the mattress/linens, and provide laundry service and maybe obc.  all of that seems reasonable.  as others hav said bved bugs are a fact of life and happen at all kinds of quality establishments.

i'm not apologizing for princess, i'm calling the pr site shammy and the content of the presss release an advertisement.

  10. interesting, i'm on the golden in may with the BSE, so i wonder what the wifi will be, will it be unlimited or just a set of minutes?  i already know wifi in alaska will not be super great so i'm not too bothered either way, the wifi was bonus after the grats and drinks.

  11. i know you wanted it on her door for check in, but possibly sneak back during dinner and put it on her door so its a surprise after dinner treat?  or maybe for muster, send them ahead and trail behind and then add it to their door.

your sign turned out great!  i'm looking to make some for our alaska trip, Dad retired in september, and this is the big hoorah to celebrate.

The description for the product is inconsistent implying both surge protection and no surge protection (and safe for cruises). I've contacted Anker for clarification on this.

i was looking at that one because i do love anker product.  i was pondering this version because it isn't saying anything about the surge protections

but i was wondering if that angled plug would be problematic with the outlet, if there was room for it.

  13. if you are that concerned, i assume you don't have a credit card, a mobile phone, or use the internet.  you are already tracked, and "they" already know what you are going to buy. and i doubt you are protected by just turning off features.  there is tracking you can't turn off.  and you don't even need tracking turned on for them to do basic tracking of you, just your phone pinging towers as you exist through out the day leaves a trail that can be tracked.  really you are going down some tin foil hat path i can not follow you there.

really you are on a closed circuit.  they don't need the medallion to track you, specifically you.  they can do this already with cameras and other means.  i'm not saying you are wrong, they will use this data to better monetize the ship, but i guess i just don't care, because that is how this whole thing works.
