Would be interesting to see what would happen if you were dishonest on the form and weighed above that weight 🤔

Or put on weight after completing the form.😇

Are they going to start having scales at check-in?

Does anyone know if they refuse a booking if someone needing assistance is over that weight?

That would become an interesting legal argument as under the Equality Act it would not be allowed to refuse them, so there would need to be something in maritime law which trumps UK law in this respect

if you have a significant level of clientele who are British and getting on in years (to the point of not undertaking fly cruises)

That may not necessarily be true. For many it is more difficult to get to/from Southampton than it is to get to/from their regional airport.

For example: for me Southampton is a 230 mile journey taking a minimum of four hours by driving (yes I know other options are available all of which take even longer), whereas Manchester Airport is 35 miles with a 45 minute journey

  4. I'm not sure that any cruise line/cruise ship is a "trendsetter" as they all evolve to meet the expectations of the passenger demographic - whether those expectations are actual or perceived is another matter.

Almost every new cruise ship these days claims to have some unique feature to try and differentiate it from all of the other new, and old, ships - is that actually trendsetting or marketing?

What one ship/cruise line does today the others will follow at some point in the future if the passengers demographic sees it as a requirement, or with some things find it is not required/used any more - for example (horror of horrors to some Cunarders) the removal of libraries which are non existent on many new, mass market ships.

  5. Bear in mind that with less than a month to go your options may be somewhat limited as some parking may be fully booked.

The two main parking companies at the terminal are CPS and Parking 4 Cruises both have good recommendations from others using this forum.

After that all the attempts by cunard to charge me daily are declined (as there is no money to cover the daily charges)

I'm surprised that you can get away with that as I have known passengers on other Carnival brands having to make other payment arrangements in similar cases.

but doesn't say a daily charge

It is not a daily "charge" but a pre authorisation.

I don't quite understand what that has to do with Cunard, or any other supplier of goods or services. Is the problem not your bank's policy?

It is not totally the bank's policy in that yes if a pre authorisation is not claimed then it rolls off after however many days but it is compounded by the fact that Carnival do not release the pre authorisations when they take the final amount - whether this has to do with there being multiple pre authorisations against one payment or that Carnival's IT is just not up to the task, I cannot say.

I have been advised the will does not need to go through probate but I need to check this as I am not sure that is correct advice.

Obviously I do not know all the facts and it is quite possible that probate is not required "at the moment"

Having been down this route more times than I care to remember I would strongly advise that at some point you do get the will proven.

As an example - when my father-in-law died some years back there was no need to have his will proven as all assets were in joint names with my mother-in-law. The problem arose when some 15 years later my mother-in-law died as the house was in joint names and without having probate for my father-in-law neither my wife nor her sister were able to sell the house. This meant gaining retrospective probate for my father-in-law.

  8. There is nothing wrong with that suggestion and, I believe, that is now happening with new bookings but the problem is that the rules are being applied to bookings made before the enforcement of the rules and in some case a year or more before and I suspect that it is these bookings that are falling through the net.

To quote from the P&O FAQ the prohibited items in that category are -

Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons (EPIRB) ham radios, communication scanners, wide-band receivers, satellite phones, transformers, lasers and laser pointers

So all types of walkie-talkies are permitted, although interestingly Apple iPhone 14s and 15s are prohibited as they have the ability to communicate with satellites.

Based on that definition, which needs updating, all mobile phones are prohibited as they communicate with satellites when using the ship's wi-fi and so do all other devices that are connected to the ship's wi-fi

  10. And how many passengers do you see ignoring the gel stations when re-boarding the ship when having been ashore?

I do think though that one of the problems with hand washing/gel stations is when you are carrying something - especially coming back on in port - you have to have your cruise card available as a minimum. This is certainly an area that is improved with Princess and the medallion - in fact the medallion because there is no need for anyone to touch it is an area where there is some reduction in the spreading noro.
