Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. We were also on that same cruise-our 10th on Discovery Princess; needless to say, she is our favorite ship. It was fun celebrating her 2nd birthday as we were on the first cruise. From your comments, I wondered if you spent any time in Princess Live? We practically had our own tables there since we attended often aside from the art auctions. We have enjoyed the production shows several times so did not attend on this cruise. We just passed 35 cruises with Princess so we have seen our share of captains and cruise directors. Captain Tony Ruggero is such a gentleman and so friendly. He even stopped to chat with our group as we were playing a card game. Cole Bochman was the outstanding cruise director and he brought out the best in the rest of his team. His programs "Meet the Captain" and "Life at Sea" were informative. Cole has so much energy and teamed well with Kyler Chappell who was the entertainment director. Cole's Elvis show and show with American music were fun and enjoyable. We are now part of Cole's "secret society" and if you are too, you know the greeting. I definitely agree that the beds need to be replaced. Perhaps that can happen when the ship goes into drydock in 2025. I did not actually see the dog poop in the hall on deck 9 but our friends did and reported it to Guest Services--how disgusting and a reflection on the dog owners! I also dealt with that grumpy guy in the scooter; he was hard to miss. Our only real concern is that most of our group of six managed to catch the famous "cruise crud" so now dealing with respiratory infection. Today was the first day I left home for a walk. I am aware that others have reported same problem on roll call here on CC. In spite of concerns, we truly enjoyed this cruise as we basically spent time with our group of friends. Doris
  2. Our offers have arrived via announcement in our cabin on day before disembarkation. Other CC guests have mentioned emails, but we never received one that way.
  3. My ducks are packed and ready to go on cruise to Hawaii on the 16th! They take so little room in the suitcase and are so fun to hide. Like another guest stated, I often have one in purse to give to a young child. Staff love them and I always leave one for room steward.
  4. We have been on the DISCOVERY many times. We don't smoke so our cabin choices were usually mid ship as it cabin would be closer to activities. Our next cruise is March 16 and we were lucky to get an upgrade to an aft deluxe balcony so we can enjoy the wake! Since she is a smoker, I would suggest aft cabins. There are only two areas where smoking is allowed: deck 17 aft and starboard aft area near the Vista Lounge. The aft elevators are right in front of the Vista Lounge and they do go down to the Ketchikan dining room. Our friends smoke so we did spent hours on deck 17. Whatever you decide, I know you will enjoy the ship.
  5. We love the DISCOVERY PRINCESS and look forward to being on for the 10th time when it goes to Hawaii on March 16. We live in southern Calif. so it is an easy drive to the port. We really don't like to fly so San Pedro has become our favorite port. We have absolutely no complaints about staff on the DISCOVERY! Cruise director and staff plan lots of fun activities. We do look forward to the CATCH restaurant which we were unable to book last cruise. We have never used the Sanctuary as we usually travel with friends who keep us busy,
  6. We usually buy the Princess insurance but for some reason neglected to buy it and now too late to add it. I would like suggestion of company. Thanks in advance. We have Medicare which would help once we get to Hawaii but concerned about sea days. We do have MASA as medical transportation.
  7. We were curious as to how many guests would pay the $149. We just disembarked on the Discovery and were told that all seats for eacg night were filled for the 360. We don't book the Suites and yet were invited three times to enjoy the 360 Experience within the last year. We thoroughly enjoyed each Experience but would definitely not pay $149 for it.
  8. Glad to know it is a Princess issue and not my limited computer knowledge. I can see my next cruise but won 't allow me into it. Will try again and again.
  9. We were looking forward to a LA-LA Alaskan cruise on the Carnival Miracle embarking on September 10. We paid a $800 deposit in October of 2022 plus 2 shore excursions for total of $285.98. Of course, we bought travel insurance with AON. In April, our granddaughter announced a 9/10/23 wedding date. I immediately called Carnival Cruise line on April 13, 2023 to cancel the cruise. They messed the message and I had to call again on May 30 as they were still demanding final payment. . I was told on May 30 that I would lose the deposit but the shore excursion amount will be refunded to credit card. AON sent me a letter stating that granddaughter's wedding is not a valid reason for them to pay me the deposit. We usually cruise with Princess and have never had to pay that high deposit.
  10. Amazed at number of people that love the buffet on embarkation day! It is the one place we always avoid!
  11. Rafael is on vacation break and will most likely be returning but?? Magdalena is his replacement and she does a great job too.
  12. We were impressed with Esther when we were on Discovery a week ago. She was an assistant CD and think she will do a great job as CD. Will be with her on the 20th.
  13. At the MEET THE CAPTAIN program last week on the DISCOVERY, Captain John Smith stated that he would be returning to the ship in May. He was looking forward to the Alaskan itineraries.
  14. On most ships we have been on, show times are 7:30 and 9:30. We usually eat about 5:30 and try to get to the first show.
