So what’s the point of doing this? I understand you get OBC, but you are paying for that OBC so it isn’t really a net gain is it? Or is it that they match and then give you that same difference as OBC? Truth be told, I’d rather give up the $20-30 OBC to not be on a crowded ship excursion in most cases I guess. Just seems like a decent amount of work and hassle for the hope of $20 but maybe I’m not understanding.

You get more protection and guarantees when booking through the Cruise line.

As another poster mentioned, one of the biggest benefits is that if a cruise line organized excursion is late the ship will wait for you.

I don't think I'll ever understand how soda, of all things, could possibly be that highly considered when choosing how and where to spend your vacation dollars.  Coca Cola is a hell of a drug, I guess.  Lol

Exactly. If / when I drink soda I couldn't care less if its Coke, Pepsi, or some off brand.

  3. @TNcruising02 What is the terminal / check in area like at Long Beach? I am planning on having a car rental so would like to drive up, check in luggage, then drive to return car and walk back to terminal. Will it be possible at Long Beach? Some terminals are totally open and easy to drive up to, leave and come back - others are totally closed off and very difficult to get in / out.

You'd have to prebook a car service  or shuttle. Shared shuttles don't just hang around at the port waiting to see if they'll have customers.

They do in some places like Ft. Lauderdale. They were just out there asking who needs a ride. Will look at reserving one at Long Beach then.

You can research this online; be sure to mention alternative-city drop off - some may charge extra to do this.

What day of the week is your cruise out of Long Beach? In your research, be sure that the office is open on Sundays, if need be. We rented a car once in Long Beach and they were closed Sundays.

It's on Saturday. The location is open.
I'm interested in Avis. So the only question is do they shuttle from their office to the port or do I have to get an Uber.

Tried calling them but no answer.

  6. Are there car rental companies at or near the port in Long Beach from which you can walk to the ship or take a shuttle?

I know not all ports have car rental places nearby...

I wanted to get a car in LA and then day of cruise just drive to the port, drop it off and go to the ship.

  7. I got this offer last year but I can't find it on AMEX.

Do you have a mobile app for your card? I found it to be the best way to find/add offers on any card.

You should have offers section there.

Depending on your card / issuer the interfaces could be different

  8. If Princess is scanning for towels, that's relatively new.
I never said that either [emoji10]
The only reason why I'm mentioning Princess is because I like the Medallion system and wish it would be used everywhere for things such as checking towels out and back in.

Point is that anything else would be better than writing this down by hand then manually entering it elsewhere later.

If I get towels from serenity and they write down my room #, when I return them I make sure they write in that I returned them.  I won't just go and let them mark me down, I want to see it happen.

Very easy for the crew member doing the check in/out to forget or get distracted and never check them back in.

Always check your S&S statement during the cruise and again on the last night sailing.

If I ever got charged for their crappy blue beach towels, oh boy!

Right and on the debarkation day there was no charge for towels on the final statement so makes me wonder how days later they somehow think that a towel is missing. Their system is outdated. As someone mentioned why not use scanners....or Medallions which I really liked on Princess

  10. Has anyone had this issue - being charged after the cruise for a towel that you supposedly took and didn't return?

That is what I saw just now - a charge for what amounts to $22 on my credit card. When leaving the ship the statement had a credit balance.

It's not a huge deal and I am sure they will remove it - especially since I don't have any of their towels. I emailed them / will call them.

However, how often does this occur and people get charged without even knowing about it?

Carnival towel checkout / check in system is horrible. It was all on paper with one poor worker trying to do that + 100 other tasks on the Lido deck.

With us, we only checked out 2 towels throughout entire cruise on Lido and checked them back in - again its all on paper...

All other blue towels were brought to the room without us even asking for them and if we used them they were all brought back and left there.

  11. FYI: If you have another user on your AMEX acct then they should have this offer through their login as well.

I essentially got $150 back from this offer by paying $350 towards the deposit then doing another $350 using my wife's card who is the additional user on my primary acct.

  12. FWIW you could try this offer for purchasing excursions online. It worked for me last year when Carnival/Princess had similar deal. I bought excursions and internet plan with the offer added and got the credit.

The charge for excursions/restaurants didn't look any different than reservations

  13. They might have the sail away party before the ship sails, right after the safety briefing, in order to accommodate all of the guests with early seating.
This would be my guess too. On our cruise last week the ship sailed about an hour later than scheduled. The sail away activity took place as scheduled and the ship wasn't even sailing even after they ended.
