  1. Yes, I have often observed this carelessness of some passengers on ships and not only there, also in hospitals. I would like to add that these sanitizers don't have the effect of a proper medical treatment, still they are better than nothing.

What can Cunard do improve the situation? Have staff control it at the entrance or where ever the facilities are installed? Maybe by putting notices on top of th sanitizers.

  2. Thank you for our explanations, JohnKen3. I had planned to sail through the canals of Kerala, but do it privately is an even better idea; I am sure it is heavenly!

Can't wait to be there and, hopefully, there will also be excursions from Goa to Northern India, which is on my mind since I have been there.

    Thank you again!

  3. Hello bluemarble, John,

Thank you so much for your help, you did a great job! This leaves me breathless and I wish I could return your kindness somehow.

But here is an idea: Looking at your nickname I think you are concerned about our planet and its future. Maybe I should tell you that, for many years, I have been working on the environment and all which is connected thereto, which often was a challenge but also gave me satisfaction knowing I did the right thing!

After a first glance to Cunard's program I am certainly going to Mahabalipuram and the backwaters of Kerala, which I missed last time.

I would also like to see a performance of Kathakali dance and, and, and.

There is so much to be seen and it's difficult to pack it all into one day.

    Anyway, thank you again.

    Wishing you all the best!

  4. Thanks for your fast reply, Host Hattie. Unfortunately, I do not have access to the UK website of Cunard, probably since I am on continental Europe.

I have now written to the UK offices and hope to receive a reply, but most probably they will direct me to a TA of continental Europe.

I also intend to write to Cunard in Hamburg and see what happens, but maybe someone from this forum can help as well?

    ;)

  5. Next year, QM2 on her world cruise, will also be throwing anchor in Goa, Chennai/Madras and Kochi of India. On a previous cruise we did excursions to Northern India, which have impressed me so much that I would not dare to do them again, also with some alterations to it.

My question is whether it is possible to know more about the excursions Cunard are planning for India. Who knows?

Thank you very much for any info that could help to make a decision.

  6. Hi,

Unless you like ports - Rotterdam is the biggest port in Europe and interesting to be seen - I recommend to go to Amsterdam, a charming and picturesque ancient town, with a wide-spread channel system, which is interconnected by numerous small bridges and surrounded by small ancient merchants' houses. The town offers numerous attractions, which can be visited free of charge. Public transport is free as well. There is lots to be seen!

    Enjoy!

  7. I love to wear elegant dresses during the day and in the evening, but in this case it would be preferable to stay with the feet on the ground. For both ladies and gentlemen it would be rather impractical to wear these hats on a ship, both inside and out.

  8. Sadly the world seems to be increasingly populated by the 'me, myself and I' brigade. Not much hope for the next generation.

Although there are positive things to it, I think digitization adds to this phenomenon. Politics and the nerds in Silicon Valley seem to forget about humanism. Digitization is a useful tool for mankind to whom it should serve without trying to abolish it.

  9. No, I can't respect rude people. Good manners are not a question of status or money and not of education either, they are rather a question of tactfulness and sensitivity. Some have it, others don't.

Bad manners can be found in any social class or age. If possible, it is better to stay apart from rude people. Discussions with them can make things worse. If it becomes unbearable the staff should inform the Maître D. Passengers can address themselves to those in charge.

  10. Why so worried or is it just excitement? The ship has been made to fight stormy seas, there is no better one than her to do a transatlantic. In the end it's the captain who decides which course to take and you have to follow. Each transatlantic is different and I wish I could come along.

Happy sailing, it will be great!

  11. I am repeating myself! There is no other ship for me than the QM2, and this mainly because of her elegance, her space (one never feels like being in a crowd), her technique, the programs, the excursions and ... and ... and. All in all, she is majestic and pure at the same time.

I have sailed on the Queen Victoria, a pretty ship that has been doing well during a stormy transatlantic. For me she is a bit overdecorated, but this is a matter of taste.

I have seen the Queen Elizabeth from near and from far during a tandem crossing, but I do not know her from the inside. Some people say they got lost, but I am unable to confirm it.

So, as before, QM2 and no other.

  12. Just to clarify, the blog is from a first time Cunard cruiser.

It represents his opinion, just as this thread represents yours.

Yes, still it is inappropriate to draw a final conclusion just from one and the first experience.

  13. chloe kitty,

If you have read the previous comments on this (and I propose you do if you haven't), you should have or will notice that it is wrong to call QM2 a sick ship.

It is not. Obviously there have been passengers who fell sick ON THIS PARTICULAR CRUISE, but it is incorrect and unfair to call her that way, because it is a GENERALIZATION.

  14. Dear axelskater,

Thank you for your well written report about the flu vague, which I find very informative and helpful. Unfortunately, there is little one can do (shots not necessarily helpful, since viruses adapt themselves easily to a new environment). It's "in the air". According to official and prominent institutes and as far as I know, the flu has now exceeded the peak.

I cannot but point out again that it is incorrect and unfair to call QM2 a sick ship  .

  15. Hi Cats2010, we just disembarked QM2 - fortunately very FEW coughing passengers on this ship [emoji6] so chloe kitty would be much relieved to know that her sick ship is now quite well.

Perhaps it’s the Aussie sunshine ☀️

    Thank you, Porky !

  16. Sick ship in the media is Noro virus, but this still was a sick ship, as most of the passengers were sick at some point. A cold, flu, etc is still sick. Yes, other better lines also have sick ships at times. No one is denying that. I realize that many of you are loyal to Cunard, no matter what, but it is FAR from the best cruise line out there.

How many passengers were sick? Do you have precise figures?

  17. Only 200 people means 200 people reported to the medical room and therefore became statistics. Many more may have been sick but opted to self medicate: probably a much higher number imo.

    David

Probably, but who knows? Still it is inappropriate to talk of a "sick ship". It should not be forgotten that it was just colds, bad cough and similar, and no noro virus.

  18. So, are you saying that most of the people on the Southampton to Cape Town and the Cape Town to Perth legs, were not vigilant about their health. Not so!

No, I am not saying this. In my opinion, most of the passengers have been in a good state of health since they were not affected.
