  1. Wanted to thank everyone for their inputs. I agree the Skyway Bridge would be a fantastic shot. Today is the first time the Brilliance came into port and it passed under the bridge around 3:45 local time. I am assuming the ship isn't illuminated coming in, if it is let me know. I looked at the angles and I would have to go to the southern fishing pier to get the best shot.

H18furball, great video of the Vision of the Seas. I really like that spot but today the Brilliance passed there around 5:30 am. On the April 16th Sunrise will be at 7:04 am with Twilight around 6:12. Once again it would need to be illuminated for a great shot.

I am thinking of just shooting it from the South Beneficial Drive bridge as she is in the Ybor turn-around basin. The sun will be coming up directly behind the ship though it will still be twilight. Otherwise, the mall that Jticarruthers mentioned will probably be the best spot.

Can someone from Tampa answer if I can easily make it to Cruise View Drive? It looks like it is a gated community, but I'd probably be walking. It looks like the other side of the channel would be the best spot to shoot it from, the sun angle would be behind me and Tampa would be in the background. Just don't know if there are any unobstructed views, it looks very industrial and that access to the waterfront is limited.

    Thanks again.

Be aware the Sunshine Skyway pier is about a 45 minute drive from downtown Tampa. It is at the southern end of Pinellas county. The southern pier is across the skyway so add 10 minutes. Either way add 5 minutes to walk down to the end of the pier.

You might consider walking behind Channelside. There is a nice public area and it is in front of the turning basin. She will probably turn around there prior to backing in to the terminal. It would be a great spot to get a picture.

  2. First of all, yogimax, this is the SECOND time that I know of that we were on the same cruise and you did NOT introduce yourself to me. Should I be getting a complex?

Second of all, I am glad that I didn't see this thread until just now, and thus was able to see this follow-up post, after some of the nonsense posted in the meantime.

    1. Some of those Cubans have relatives in MEXICO. They were trying to sail to MEXICO. We landed them in MEXICO.

    2. The crew of the Serenade chipped in clothing and money, in VERY large amounts. THEY "have a heart", unlike some of YOU.

    3. The USCG has nothing to do with this - as stated by yogimax.

    4. We tried to leave them in Falmouth. The Jamaican authorities did not want to accept them. Just for full disclosure. ;)

    5. There was no point in even trying to leave them in GC. Caymanian authorities wouldn't even discuss it.

    6. Reportedly, two cargo ships/freighters passed them by. Those captains are now subject to very serious charges. You have a DUTY, an OBLIGATION, to help those in distress at sea.

    7. Picking them up had NO impact on our cruise. I am so very happy that I heard not one tiny WHISPER, not one SYLLABLE of complaint from anyone on board. If I had heard what yogimax heard, there might have been someone ELSE in the water.

    8. Everyone that I spoke to was concerned and interested in the fate of the Cubans. All expressed empathy, warmth and good wishes.

    As for some of you.................SMH.

Well, said! Can't wait to meet you on Jewel in May!!!!

  3. I received an email in January from C&A offering me an upgrade from interior to Ocean Biew for $30. While this may be an upsell to some, this upgrade deal was not available on the open market and I appreciated a visit from the Upgrade Fairy. She may not have given me an automatic free upgrade but, it wasn't just trying to sell me an upgrade at the going market price.

  4. Bob is correct in his statement.

What will happen, is that the night before, you should go to your new cabin area, and find the stateroom attendant, and let him/her know that you will be moving to your new cabin the next morning.

The cabin attendant will do everything possible to have the cabin ready early for you to move to. All that you need to pack are items not hung up in the closet. The attendants will move your clothes for you.

You will probably be unpacked and settled in by the time that you get together with the other back to backer's, and as a group, all B2B will be the last to leave the ship, to go through immigration, and then, as the first group, will be allowed back aboard, as soon as the ship is cleared.

If there are enough B2B'ers, the ship normally holds a luncheon in the main dining room, so you don't have to put up with everyone else that is headed to the Windjammer, and you will be allowed back in your cabin before 1PM if you so choose.

    Hope this helps.

    Rick

Thank you! That is the best explanation of the process I have read here. Normally, they are short little quips. Thanks for helping those of us who are still learning! 😄
