sc2011, why are you saying "believe it or not"? Some people, DH and I included in that number, prefer to prepay service charges so that we have this expense accounted for in our cruise price. We are platinum cruisers and know many others who choose to do the same thing. We don't disparage those who do not choose to do this; this is our choice. I guess I don't understand why anyone would judge us for doing this.
I'm sorry. I think you missed my point. Ewoodspark said this "didn't matter" since you can adjust it to whatever you want. I was making the point that (whether the poster believes it or not) there are some people that pay the charge - MYSELF INCLUDED! I prepay the amount they ask for. I am with you on this. My point was - it matters to me. If the amount goes up, I need to budget for the extra amount that I will prepay.

Being a discretionary charge, it matters little as you can increase or decrease the charge as you feel fit
I found it newsworthy which is why I posted it. I thought others may know if there is in fact a change coming. Some on here (believe it or not) pay the discretionary charge that they are asked to pay. $3 more on a 9 day cruise for 4 people is $108. That certainly matters to some people.

I find it hard to believe from the standpoint that no one on CC has brought it up.
I think I saw a discussion about this a few weeks ago and it was shot down.
I agree. I was shocked - first checked through all of the recent posts here. Didn't see anything so thought I'd post. Someone posted their screen shot from NCL site on facebook. Says prepay for $13.33 per day. Another said they were told by their PCC it's now $15 per day and if you prepay it's $13.33 per day. Who knows!
-
On Facebook today many are posting that they've been made aware by their PCC that the service charge is increasing next week. Has anyone heard anything definitive on this?
I just went into my 3 reservations and it won't let me prepay service charges. It says "We are unable to display this option at this time."

Does the entertainment change on the Jewel when it switches from the Caribbean to Alaska? We'll be on the first Alaska cruise of the season (9 days) and wondering what the entertainment will be. Thank you.

Thank you, XMansmom -- just got price adjustment for March 2016 Epic, which would have not happened without your post!
Awesome! Mine was for Epic too - April 2016. Went down $570!

Thank you. I checked and mine too has dropped!

Happy for you. We're booked on the Jewel for May 7. First time to Alaska. First time on the Jewel. We're very excited as the days get closer. I don't know that much has changed other than the introduction of the Beverage and Dining packages. I've only sailed NCL and have loved every time I've cruised. Hope your cruise is fantastic!
Also - Moderno is now on the Jewel too - the Brazilian Steakhouse. We love it!

Same here. I arrive between 10-10:30 and am usually one of the first there.

93 days! It's going down quickly now!

The process is that Haven guests check in at priority check in room, and non Haven guests check in at the normal area. You can certainly all check in together at the normal check in area. With that said some have said on here they've all been able to check in together at the priority room. This is an exception to the rules and doesn't seem to happen often. For boarding, you can certainly all board together through the normal waiting area.

We saved $1100 on our Epic 10 Day H4 which includes adding 2 people to our suite for free. Very happy!

We were able to save some great money on two of our bookings today. Getaway and Epic. TA made it easy. One email for him to check = great savings!

Guess I'm not as smart as you

As we stepped on to the Breakaway 2 years ago, we were greeted immediately by a server with a big tray of tropical drinks in NCL souvenir cocktail glasses. Welcoming us happily and then "please take one" the server said. So we all took one. All 8 of us. He was so personable and made sure we all tasted our drinks still greeting us and telling us what a great cruise we'll have. He then asked my husband to what cabin number should they be charged. $108 later.... that was a valuable lesson about free drinks on cruises for me!

My 80 year old in laws didn't like it and left 15 minutes in. My husband left soon after. I liked it but at many times I couldn't understand what they were saying. I wouldn't go again.

We sailed on the Sky in December. It was our third time. I know what you mean about the small showers. We had that our first two times. This trip we had the Owner's Suite. The room, balcony and bathroom were very large. Service was fantastic. I found the concierge, Omar, to be the best we've had. Chef's table was awesome. We love the small ship and smaller crowds. We love how anyone can use the sauna and steam rooms at no cost. Yes, the ship is aging and I find the food to be better on the larger/newer ships; however, the Sky is the most peaceful to us.

I am doing The Jewel in early May for a 9 day cruise. I can not wait.
Me too! Very excited.
I found the Alaska board extremely helpful. Also, I went to old Alaska roll calls and read them. Make sure you find your roll call and follow the thread.

Thank you for these photos. We'll be in 10004 and 10002 in 114 days. The balcony pictures provided really good information on layout.

I checked their policy and it looks like it is a $250 charge if it is discovered you were smoking on your balcony or in your room. I really hope everyone on the front of the ship is aware of the no smoking policy on our cruise. I will not let it ruin our cruise by any means but I will give the butler a quick call and have it addressed immediately. I am not a snob by any means but I have no tolerance for the inconsideration of others. Call me an advocate or what you will. :D:)
We're with you on this!

As a non American citizen I can tell you they won't let you on the ship without proper documentation to get off the ship. They clear non US citizens ahead of time. Getting off is as easy as everyone else. I'm a green card holder who has traveled with US citizens for many years.

Just had Joqauin on the Sky and thought he was excellent. Probably best butler so far for us.

Yahoo is not one of the free sites. NCL is free as well as a ship position site, weather site and some misc maritime sites. Your acct can be seen through the free NCL iConcierge app. You log in to wifi to use the app but you don't need to connect / pay to be able to use it.
Increase in DSC?

I don't know. I started this thread just to see if anyone had definitive information. After seeing 2 separate people post actual NCL screen shots on Facebook of an increase, it made me wonder if it was going up. I budget for my cruises and always like to know what to expect. I'm sure there will be an official statement if/when it ever goes up.
