  1. We are booked on the Reflection for a transatlantic in April 2016, wondering how fresh seafood is after several days at sea, and do they restock perishables, like seafood at every port or just at the beginning of a cruise?

I am asking because on a recent TA (on Royal Caribbean) the sushi was tasting pretty bad by the end of the cruise.

Looks like this was answered in post #47 above.

I've always enjoyed the sushi even on day 12 of a 14-day cruise. Tasted good and fresh.

  2. A seafood tower sounds like a great idea but, FYI, it would be from frozen fish. I don't think that would be a problem because fresh caught frozen fish can be good. The only problem that I have encountered, as I live in Florida, are frozen stone crabs; they stick to the shell once frozen and are very hard to remove.

We just went to the Top Chef event on Silhouette and the head chef mentioned that all of the proteins; ie, meat, seafood are are frozen for safety reasons. They also do not buy any seafood/meats from local ports.

That is a little disappointing as I had pictured raw oysters, among other delicacies, on a seafood tower. I highly doubt that they would be good after being frozen. Still, I will hope for some seafood of any kind at the Porch! :)

  3. Would be really disappointed if this new change doesnt work out. Was so excited when i read that a raw bar was on board. Would gladly pay an up charge to have fresh seafood towers for lunch

Me too!! I have really missed having fresh seafood on cruises. On our first (as adults) cruise in 2003, I ate seafood every night for dinner and loved it. The last few years, there is always a fish selection, but not a seafood (i.e. scallops, scampi, crab, shrimp) entree. I know there is always shrimp cocktail available but I would love a meal of actual seafood. Here's hoping this experiment is still ongoing on our upcoming February Reflection cruise.

  4. Hmm. If I book directly with X in CDN, can I transfer it to my US TA and get their additional benefits?

Absolutely! The ONLY way to go!!

Just wondering why you wouldn't book and go package? Wouldn't it be in CDN dollars?

Yes, but I've only seen 7 day cruises and we like to get away for longer in the winter.

  5. Keep a copy of the advertisement handy in case you need to send a copy off to someone to have this resolved. I agree that your dispute is with whoever ran the ad. I know a lot of Canadians are booking those all inclusive packages and I have heard mostly great reviews. Good luck and let us know what happens.

  6. Thank you for the responses. I do understand that the wine is not complimentary from room service and we have no problem bringing a glass down from one of the bars or having a bottle in the room. I'm delighted that we can get some shrimp to munch on to go along with the wine. One more thing to look forward to.... :):D:):D:)

  7. Would these be included in the room service (read included in the cruise price)? We will be in a Concierge cabin for the first time and I understand that the room service menu is slightly expanded. Shrimp/prawns and wine on the balcony sounds divine!!!

  8. What are these "Exciting Deals" that I see mentioned here from time to time? Is it for US only? Or customers who book directly with them?

I am a regular X cruiser, Captain's Club Member, they have my e-mail address and they send me ads from time to time but I don't receive these Exciting Deals or Tuesday Specials.

Same here and I don't receive anything either.

I have just started receiving them within the last 2 months although X has had my email since early 2012.

  9. As others have said there is a lot to do on these islands. We did the Eclipse last February and have it booked again for 2017 because we enjoyed it so much. We did island tours on most islands and it amazed us at just how different each one was. They are all beautiful in their own unique ways. The people are so welcoming and happy to show you their heritage. We missed the beach time on this cruise as we only went to a few beaches and so will make a point to include much more beach time in 2017. Enjoy, no matter what choice you make. Good luck in your decision.

  10. We're all paying for our drinks. Just because the beverage package is included, does not mean we are getting them free. The prices have been adjusted accordingly. We are just not having to sign for them or think about the cost of each one. That makes it worth it in my mind. Besides, anyone in an inside cabin would have to pay for a beverage package if they have one. Enjoy your cruise!

  11. I missed the BBB announcement. I had to go look it up.

I love how the header says "Prepaid Tips" but then when you click on the header, it starts with "free tips".

How on earth does prepaid tips qualify as a perk?

    Glad I booked under 123GO.

I would think there would be an onboard booking bonus (just like with 123GO).

I'm not sure I understand your question. Prepaid tips qualifies as a perk because it is something off your bill that you would then not have to pay while on board. Did you mean something else?

  12. I'm trying to book online shore excursions but it requires charging your credit card. I have a large OBC I want to use for excursions. I called Celebrity and they said you have to book once on board to use your credit. I'm concerned some of the excursions I want may be sold out. Is there anyway around this to use your OBC?

As others have said, the quick answer is "NO!" This is one of the very few things I do not like about Celebrity.

  13. I'm on your side OP. I'd love to have the Canadian perspective on things that happen while we're away. After all, I have family at home when I travel and like to be sure nothing too extreme is happening. I, too, have found it odd that it is so hard to come by when there is so much international news onboard.

  14. Since we get internet discounts onboard for being Captain's Club members and have OBC to use, why would we consider buying before we sail? I really wish Celebrity would rethink their policy of not allowing guests to charge purchases to their OBC prior to sailing. It makes things so much smoother once onboard to have everything already taken care of but I don't want to be spending more out of pocket than necessary. Especially now with seemingly higher OBC (we have a total of $675 for our next B2B and $950 for our upcoming 14 day cruise), I see no reason to pre-book anything.
