  1. Just a suggestion. If you have a party over 5-6 people I think you can still rent a room for the day. We did it in 2016. It was cheaper to do this plus you had a place to shower and let little ones take naps.... we had 6 people and I think it was $149 plus tax. Use the same Marriott email and ask.

  2. We used avis when we were there. Are you planning on exploring a few places or do you just want it for transportation to one beach? I strongly recommend downloading google maps to your phone to get around. If not, use a GPS. We stayed there and drove all over island. Left side of road and steering wheel on right.

  3. Trunk bay is in st John. If you take excursion, when you dock at st john, there will be open air buses that you get into and they'll take you. I forget the bus fare to trunk so have cash for that. There may be a fee now to get into trunk. There

Sorry, not good typing on my phone. Its really easy to do. The majority of people who do the on your own go to trunk. There will be cabs/buses to take you back. In my prior post I said open air buses but they are really cabs. Once you dock, you are guided towards them and you just tell them where you are going. It's about a 10 minute ride.

  4. How do you get to Trunk Bay if your Princess cruise ship is docking in St. Thomas and not offering a specific excursion there. They are offering an excursion to St. John via the "Island Girl"...but it's "St. John on Your Own".

  5. When we were there last year (pre-hurricanes) as well as in years past, the RC "St. John on your own" excursion was six hours. The ferry ride from the ship took anywhere from 20 to 45 minutes, depending on the weather / seas. We've never done the ferry from Red Hook. The six hours allowed time for beaches, snorkeling and a few bar stops.

As you mentioned, some of the excursions now have been reduced to 4 hours, so we're contemplating other options. So I'm replying here to bump your post back up and hopefully get some opinions from recent visitors.

I am getting ready to do the Celebrity summit on your own tour that used to be 6 hours and now is 4 which I am not happy about. I researched and decided that from crown bay, this was the better option. I will come back and post what we did and how our day went in a couple of weeks. I have a whole game plan but will share after I do it -;p

  6. We are having a similar issue with Capt Bob. We are scheduled to be on his tour in a week but have decided to cancel. The weather forecast is calling for high winds and between my motion sickness (I wear a patch but still feel it and am miserable) and my boyfriend’s bad neck, we decided it wasn’t best tour to do in high winds. I emailed Capt Bob and he said we still owe the whole amount, whether we go or not. The way I read the email when we made the deposit was that we would lose the deposit if we canceled within 30 days not have to pay the whole amount. Any suggestions on what to do?

Did you pay via credit card? If so, file a complaint or whatever to stop any payments to Soualiga. Do it asap so he doesn't charge you now. Wow. I am SO glad I decided not to use him again. Its a good tour but there are a few companies out there that do the exact same stops. I got turned off by cap bob for a few reasons before, during and after my tour. It was a nice day but a few things bothered me not to the point where I would write a vicious review but enough where I honestly would not use him again and i have not felt like this with any other tour operator.

  7. Honestly, after looking at the picture - it looks like a patio set which can be found at many homes. If it were me, I'd forego the $99 patio/back yard bbq and use the money at any of those ports for an excursion or a day at the beach. If it were me, I would be so happy to be in the Caribbean enjoying beautiful white sand beaches and warm water and not being at home in my patio/bbq area. If it were me I really would reconsider and try to get it for a sea day if its that important to you.

  8. This is worrying me re the boats. Is spencer overbooking? He told a member of our roll call that he could do up to 30 people for the jalousie beach anse chastenet snorkeling. I was horrified because I'm reading all these boat stories... since then he reassured me but I'm not sure I'm going if it looks like a madhouse.

  9. Emerald really wasn't good when we were there 3 weeks ago. It was so crowded there was hardly a space to put your towel, there were no umbrellas or chairs left for rent. I would also mention the hurricane damage is quite noticeable at Emerald, I understand the local people are doing their best to clear it up.

thanks for posting this. I was a little concerned about overcrowding here when I noticed that its a lot closer to Crown then Havensight. I have a morning excursion planned both times I am here in April so I will check it first and if it looks like a zoo, I will get a cab elsewhere.

  10. We will be on Barbados in April, and will be visiting one of the beaches that offers the turtle excursion. My question is about what people do with their "stuff" when they go out on the boat to see the turtles. I mean my beach bags, towels, etc. I know we will pay for chairs and umbrella (it is just DH and I), but is it safe to leave (replaceable) stuff on the loungers while we are on the boat, like towels and sunscreen? Are there lockers to use instead? Is the boat ride dry enough to bring my DSLR camera and iPhone in a bag and leave on the boat while we snorkel?

Usually we have more people with us, and typically my mother is happy to stay behind with our stuff, but it is just DH and I this time, and we would like to snorkel together.

    Any advice is greatly appreciated!

I don't know about lockers but I would suggest either buying plastic waterproof "bag" for both camera and cell phone and have it attach to a wristlet or a floatable ring (we did this with our go pro and it has been a lifesaver) or leaving one phone in safe on ship and bringing only one phone with you if you feel that you really will need it. Amazon sells the plastic waterproof cases for the phones and perhaps for your camera. We snorkel and take boat trips a lot (speedboat, kayaking...etc...) and learned the hard way to have the cases and the buoy/floatable ring.

  11. Crew Center shows her leaving Port Everglades on the 9th, spending 4 days at sea, and arriving in Puerto Rico on the 14th.

But now I see she’s chartered from Everglades to San Juan 2nd to 9th. No idea! Can’t seem to find anything about those mysterious days!

We were on the original 4/2 to 4/9 sailing before it was chartered as Celebrity told us. So I guess that's probably what has happened. Originally I think we were leaving out of Fort lauderdale on the 2nd and ending up in puerto rico visiting st martin, aruba and curacao but that cruise was cancelled a year ago.

  12. Many of the responses on here are recommending 'sights' but for those who are interested just one train stop away - 5 mins (in the direction of Rome) is Santa Marinella which has a lovely sandy beach.

We are actually staying in Civitavecchia overnight before our cruise in November and I did see this area which looks like something my husband and I would like. I do have a question for anyone who has stayed in Civitavecchia overnight or been there for the day. My husband and I enjoy renting bikes in various areas of places we stop at (Rome, Barcelona, Alicante) and it has been a great way to explore. Has anyone ever rented bikes in Civitavecchia and if so, who did you use? We rented bikes to ride the Appian Way last year while we were in Rome and we had a great time on a Sunday last May.
