  1. I am not sure a taxi would be necessary, but if you do require one it will probably be $8, minimum charge for up to 4 people.

Perfect! Thanks :) if my husband were coming with us we'd walk but bring it's me, my 19 y/o daughter & a 7 y/o the safest route is a taxi

So glad I found this thread I had planned to book thru resortforaday. This resort looks much better

  2. Greetings, we just returned from 5 days on Liberty of the Seas. During our day in Cozumel we purchased all inclusive day passes to the Park Royal Cozumel. The hotel is about a 5 minute walk from the International cruise port. Despite trying to purchase the passes in advance, I was unable to confirm anything with hotel staff (when I called they said to just buy them at the front desk) until we arrived. Once we did, there was no problem. The passes were $40 U.S. for adults and $20 for children. The passes gave you access to all the recreational activities, three swimming pools, all-inclusive food and drinks (a nice lunch buffet was available and a number of bars, including swim-up bars), and an hour of free snorkeling gear.

The beach was small but worked fine for our kids. The snorkeling right off the beach was excellent. I saw hundreds of fish. The food and drinks were fine. All in all this was a great way to spend a day in Cozumel. Our kids who are under 10 are still a bit young to fully appreciate any cultural excursions so having a relaxing day was a great alternative. I would recommend this property.

thanks for the new info...anyone take a taxi from punta maya? rates $$ ?

    we'll be on the Elation

  3. My understanding is that the 15% gratuity goes into a tip pool and does not go to the server who you purchased the program from.. Second, there is NO tax on the cheers program no matter when you buy it. However, if you order drinks before the ship reaches international waters you are taxed on the individual drink. This applies to everyone and all drinks purchased, whether you have the cheers program or not

Thanks SO much for the quick reply....exactly what I wanted to hear (read) haha

  4. i tried searching but couldn't find the answer to my questions

when you signup for cheers does the bartender you purchase it through receive the whole 15% gratuity or is it spread throughout the servers as you purchase the drinks

also, i read somewhere to wait until the first sea day to purchase cheer to avoid the tax. didn't think much of it at the time...but after realizing the cost will be around $800 the tax thing seems more important now LOL we're sailing out of new orleans & i think our tax rate is around 9%. anyone purchased cheers sailing out of nola either on embarkation or the first sea day care to share the costs?

    thanks!

  5. I was on this cruise, they were loading fresh water, everything was fine and all was on schedule, great weather too! Had a blast! Going back in November.

  6. A young woman at our table, whose family was also a part of our cruisecritic roll call, needed gluten free. I'm not sure how you go about informing Carnival of this ahead of time. But on the first night there, she was given the gluten free menu for that night. Later on in the evening, she was given the gluten free menu for the next night, and she chose what she would want for the next night. That's how it was done the rest of the cruise: making the choices a day ahead of time. She seemed to be happy with it overall, although I can't say for sure. I heard no complaints.

Thanks for your prompt reply :) that sounds perfect, my niece has severe food allergies

  7. Anyone with experience on gluten free menu / food on the Dream. In the MDR? TA said there was a specific menu to ask the water but I read that as not the case. What I found said you have to go to MDR each day and chose what you'll eat that evening. Help :)

  8. The Tour was advertised to include the Governor's house, Hell, Tortuga factory, Dolphin Cove, Turtle Farm, and 7 mile beach.

The driver stopped at the entrance for the Governor's House. She told us a few things and then we proceeded to Hell. She gave us some local info along the way - answered questions about housing costs and other things about living there. She also pointed out the oldest house on the island, etc.

The Dolphin and Turtle Farm are across the street from each other. The driver stops and you have 20 minutes to go to either (or both). You can observe at the Dolphin place for free. The Turtle Farm has a fee.

After that - she was going to drop us off at some point the beach. I don't remember (Sorry) if she would come back to pick us up or if we would have been on our own to get back to port.

I had read on here that you could easily take the public bus for $2 (?) per person each way. So you could probably do it on your own for less. That's up to you.

we haven't used the bus system there but i think thats what we'll do since we're only interested in Hell, Tortuga factory, Dolphin Cove, Turtle Farm all things we can do on our own. thanks again for posting!

  9. So I contacted DC for a quote & to see if they offered spectator pricing. Got a polite email saying that they can not make reservations for me since I'm in a cruise ship they have a contract with. Shoulda known better than to mention that...:(

  10. It was an independent tour that we picked up on shore. There are tons of people with signs. I think they wanted $20/pp. Don't be afraid to negotiate. I got the girl down to $15/pp.

thats great! where did you go for $15? i love bargaining

  11. I was in Grand Cayman earlier this month. As much as I have always wanted to swim with the Dolphins, as did my family, paying $100+ per person (times 4) was out of my budget. I do think their pricing is better than what I've seen on other islands. But still.

Our island tour bus stopped at Dolphin Cove for 20 min. We had the option to go into this area and watch the dolphins, or go to the Turtle Farm across the street. We chose to go watch the dolphins.

Inside, one of their photographers was offering a deal... you could have a dolphin experience for a bargain. These could be in or out of the water (depending on what "experience" you chose). In the water, 5 min only, no extra play time, etc. Just in the water, do your thing, and out. 1 experience for $30 or 2 for $45. I don't remember all the options, but several "experience" choices were - 2 dolphin swim, kiss, balance the ball, ride on dolphin.... the price included him taking your picture and you got a CD at the end with the digital files (about 4 per experience).

IMO this was perfect. We got to do it, we didn't have 12 or whatever other people in the group. Just me and the dolphin. And we got fantastic pictures. WELL worth it.

The photographer said this was something new Dolphin Cove was trying. Hopefully, it will continue, because for $45 - if I ever get back to Grand Cayman... I'm there!

what island tour were you on? ship sponsored or independent?

  12. I did a tour that included the Turtle Farm. To be perfectly honest, I wasnt so sure I would like it but I did. I think its a 20 minute stop tops but it is nice to see. They are beautiful. I was lucky in that I was there when they did a feeding. It was a free for all and quite funny. If its included in a tour, than I would go but paying that price on its own to get in is ridiculous.

what tour company did you use?

  13. anyone done this excursion? carnivals site doesn't say where the swim takes place at...my daughters are doing the swim, i would like to go but not interested in the dolphin thing and they don't offer a spectator pass. thinking i could go on my own if i knew where.

  14. Yes...go to the spa on the first dat and you will get a sticker for your S and S card and a bracelet to wear when you go..Enjoy..we LOVED it!!!

thanks for the reply...is the bracelet removable so that you don't have to wear it all the time? i am hoping thats the case but hubby says probably not because they wouldn't be able to control passengers lending it to non spa cabin guests. sure would like to be right about this ;)
