  1. Pictures are taken free. You pay for the ones you like. Don't know what they cost because we never buy them. Just take our own.

Drinks run around $10-11 each (includes tip). Cheers pay off after about 14 drinks a day I have heard.

    No, no, no! :)

    Break even is around 4 (four) a day - cost is $37.50 PPPD + gratuity = $43-ish. That's between 4 and 5 cocktails.

  2. I would check on the Ports-of-Call boards - lots of info there.

We were in Antigua and loved it!

We did a private tour with Lawrence of Antigua, which was great. We went to Churchman (exact name?) beach and it was gorgeous!

Edit: the beach was actually called Valley Church Beach! :)

  3. Jacksonville port is too small for a big ship.

Tampa can't handle anything bigger than Spirit class because of having to sail away under the Sunshine Skyway Bridge.

Port Canaveral, Ft Lauderdale and Miami have the bigger ships.

(PC is still pretty driveable from the Midwest -- we drove to Orlando several times when we still lived in Indianapolis -- not much longer than driving to Tampa)

  4. This isn't a question for Cruise Critic boards-- you will just get "opinions", half of which will be incorrect.

This is something you need to ask of Carnival, and ask it soon, so that you can make adjustments in booking name or passport if need be.

FYI -- although recommended, a passport is not actually required to cruise -- a birth certificate will suffice if push came to shove.

  5. Have done it twice - very interesting and fun way to get around.

I think the departure times are there because they need if for their program.

I wouldn't even bother doing it through the ship - just walk to the booth and buy a ticket - very short distance from where the ship docks.

  6. I don't really get that, what's the difference of paying the money to carnival then just saving it in your bank account? Everytime you feel comfortable to make a payment put that money aside somewhere? If something comes up that money you put to your cruise could have been used towards whatever. It may have been the way I was raised but I was taught if you can't afford it then don't buy it. The only exception to that was for a house or dire circumstance.

I'm not trying to debate on this just pointing out that the money is better off in your hands then in carnivals. A lot of people say they book early so they have time to pay it off, but really if money is just put away for a vacation then it doesn't really matter when it's booked.

I guess I wasn't asking for you to manage my finances -- you really know nothing about me or my situation.

I was merely explaining why some people do ES. Period.

  7. The Carnival Funville forum is free on board, you just have to set up a free account; set it up before you cruise and let the fam know what your "handle" is. (They'll have to have an account, too, or log in under you.) Be warned -- it is super, super S-L-O-W, so posting a bunch of pictures is probably not too feasible.

You can also look for free wifi in ports -- there is a website that tells you where the free wifi is located all over the world -- sorry, can't remember the name, but it's something like "free wifi". :p

  8. It is highly subjective -- what works for one doesn't necessarily work for another

I agree that booking at the last minute does give you a great price.

But -- I have to book well-ahead in order to have time to pay it off.

So ES works great for me: I book almost a year out at a rate I am comfortable with; I get my choice of cabins, so I can choose one of the types that tend to sell out fast; and I am able to take advantage of price adjustments all the way up until 2 days before sail date.

    To each his own! ;)

  9. Over time, we have been on every deck on the ship, in both inside and balcony cabins. Before I became familiar with CC, I didn't know about how to pick a cabin -- just took what they gave me, more or less, since I didn't know any better. And still, we have NEVER had any issues about noise or vibration.

I think people (myself included :o) tend to obsess a little too much over cabin location any more. IMO.

  10. All signs point to no, there's been a lot of people asking, but steakhouse menus are only in the steakhouse, since they have separate kitchens, it makes sense or someone would have to track across the ship with your food

This just changed -- you can now order steak, lobster, surf and turf and sometimes rack of lamb from the steak house menu while you are in MDR.

    Cost is $20 extra.
