  1. We are unique cruisers for sure.

The cabin is probably the first priority.  For Hubs - I created a monster when I grabbed that aft-Facing cabin on the Radiance around final payment for his first cruise.

Hubs has not sailed in anything but aft-Facing and we are Diamond on Royal and Elite on Celebrity.

Now, after my accident, a handicapped accessible cabin is important.  I spend a great deal of time in the cabin because I tire easily.

We spend time on our balcony at sea.  We have the binoculars, cameras, spotting scope (in Alaska) all out there.

I take at least 2 books, Hubs has his Kindle.

I try to go to all lectures about the cruising area (not the shopping talks) and one silly thing each day - napkin folding, any Art lectures on Disney.

Traveling on a scooter has given me freedom again but sometimes in crowds I find a few people are rude.  Elevators are the worst.  Though most people are quite gracious.  Just a few sour apples can make me fearful.  I was knocked off my scooter by a photographer’s swinging arm at embarkation.

My favorite was no one on the ship realizing a woman in a wheelchair cannot walk up 4 decks of stairs to the promenade deck on the Radiance at Seward.  We all know they could have accommodated me at the lower entrance.

Its often easier to just stay away - back to our luscious balcony.

Everyone has their own way to cruise.  To disparage others “perfect cruise” is a little short sighted.

    Bottom line ......

i spend so much time in my cabin because of my health.  That doesn’t mean I am not a happy cruiser!

So ...... a movie can be a nice break.

    Donut23,

Noise is always a concern! A number of questions:

    1. how late into the evening did the music and drinkers stay

    2. how early did the chair scraping noise start

    3. as a handicapped cabin what furniture is on the balcony - wheelchair accessible I’m assuming

    4. to open and close balcony door is it easy from the balcony

( The reason that I ask that question is that we were on the Edge TA and our infinity balcony had a switch to control the balcony divider. The problem was that they never lowered it for wheelchair accessibility.)

    Hal

    Hey Hal!

    Let’s see ....... answers.

    Inside and Outside Noise.

Bermuda cruises are different.  We steam down to paradise and then stay there for a few days.

We were grateful to Dorian.  In an attempt to stay out of the storm’s path, we picked up the pace and arrived 1 day early (an extra $148,000 in port service fees! Yikes!)

It was warm at night and that aft bar area is protected from the breeze.  Good gathering space.

First day, little noise - no one had found it I believe.

the following day at sea was glorious.  Lou spent the better part of mid-day dead asleep on the balcony.

Normal voices are muted, like white noise.  Not much morning noise at all.  You know people are talking nearby but you cannot pickup the exact conversation.

UNTIL someone has too much to drink.  Those voices sometime pierce the muted voices.

Inside you don’t really hear the regular conversation at all .... the drunks you will hear —- but muted.

When we were awake we often had the news on.  Jim is a 40+ year employee of a network news program.  The TV blocked most.

ME?  Again.  I’m taking a medication which was doubled just before sailing.  I slept to Bermuda .... sleeping through dinner once.  Nothing bothered me from above.

The biggest annoyance was when people dragged the chairs around. THAT noise was obvious in our cabin.  It was occasionally during the day and when sounds died in the evening, you would hear them straightening the chairs for morning.  Generally not real late.  There wasn’t entertainment out there.  Maybe 10 ish.

Docked in Bermuda it was less of a problem.  I suspect they found other places to raise a ruckus.

Also, first night at sea upon our return we went about 100 miles out of our way to avoid 25’ Seas the Norwegian ship sailed into.  We had a bumpy ride and not a whiff of noise from above.

It is a problem but other advantages of the cabin outweighed it for us.

    Our balcony furniture:

2 New Tallback Deck Chairs with attached pillow-rolls which you can flop back if you do not want to use them.

2 New Full Lounge Chairs with the same attached floppy pillow.

One small table - useless except for your drinks or binoculars.

These loungers are Nap-Approved by Lou and Myself.  I actually brought my terrier Vera Bradley throw - Driving vs Flying means you bring LOTS more.  I slept out there 2 nights under my throw in Bermuda.

    Balcony Door

Its a standard, heavy, sliding balcony door.  I imagine it would be awkward from a wheelchair.

There is a permanent metal ramp with non skid going in and out of the balcony door.  The ramp is a comfortable angle.  We found the scooter out on the balcony when we first arrived.

Ramp into bathroom is basically the floor under the carpet.  You do not see it walking into the cabin and stumble on it like a drunk the first time.  Good for a laugh.

You must remember the little Summit is a mature lady.  She does not have automatic doors (door into cabin is 32” wide -comfortable-but heavy and a challenge to negotiate alone.)

She has hand rails on one side of the toilet and shower only and just enough space between to back in a wheelchair.

It is very comfortable for someone like me who is moderately ambulatory.  I suspect you may miss the whistles and bells of a more modern accessible cabin if limitations are severe.

You can always call Celebrity.  Jim called a few times to find out what they offer after we arranged my scooter.  We were going to request oxygen, for example but I decided to tough it out.  Once onboard we discovered it was too late when I

    could have used it.

We DID enjoy this cabin a great deal.  It made my trip easier and you could not beat the view from the balcony.

Jim DID like the convenience of being one deck below the buffet - eggs Benedict run for me in the morning, for example.

Isnt 8164 an Accessible Cabin too?  The extra deck between you and the bar on deck 10 might be a good thing if someone is a gentle sleeper.

I believe  it is Concierge instead of Aqua Class.  That would be a big problem if someone has their heart set on dining in Blu.

please ask away if you have more questions.

    👍👍👍👍👍

    Donut23,

Glad you enjoyed your Bermuda cruise. We are in that cabin in December(14 - 21) out of San Juan. This morning on another blog there was a comment about this cabin and the music from the deck above. Was it disturbing to you when you were inside the cabin? Outside on the balcony?

    Hal

    Hey Hal!

Music and noise from above WAS an issue on the balcony, I cannot deny it.  These sounds were seriously muffled inside.

Also, the sound of chairs dragging from above were quite loud inside the cabin.

Neither Of is were bothered sleeping and the noise didn’t drive us off our balcony but we WERE surprised.  Comparable cabins on Royal Caribbean’s Radiance Class Ships (we have sailed all 4) were never noisy.

Are you sensitive sleepers?  Would you be troubled by loud drinkers at the bar above?

There is so much which is GOOD about this cabin.  It DOES make things so much easier if you travel with a wheelchair or scooter.

i hope I could help.  Ask away if you have more questions.

    Hug our cabin for us.😋

I’m on the Summit now (Sept. 8 sailing, 14 nights NE/Canada).  We are not in Aqua Class but yesterday we were speaking with some folks who are and they said Blu has been terribly overcrowded and people have had to wait for tables. They also said the staff have been trying to come up with a solution, including opening earlier for dinner.

Maybe your sailing is more full than ours.  The last Bermuda sailing was not well booked I heard from various crew.  Also, we wandered to Blu late in their dinner hours.

im sorry to hear this was a problem.  It WAS a restful experience for us.

  5.

    Hi!

    Im back. 😋

I’m going to talk about dining.  Our experience was limited but our description of our experience would be ..... perfection.

Because I slept so much and morning meds are tough to keep down, many of my breakfasts were in the cabin.

(NOTE:  I brought on 2 12 packs of diet ginger ale and a case of water. They were marked “medical necessity”.  No one even looked at them.  We put them on MY wheelchair and I rode in a Summit chair. We had carry on luggage on top.)

jim would bring up to the room  “made as you watched” Eggs Benny and a small bowl of fruit.  (I love that man!).

We are mostly grab and go kind of people.  The Jammer/Oceanview Cafe (Jammer - can’t get the Royal Caribbean out of us) was perfect.

Luscious carved meats, mashed pots and gravy for Jim’s.  Jim is basically a meat and potatoes guy though he does eat salad now - and doesn’t die.   There was a vast array of every kind of salad you can imagine for me.  We were in heaven.

The food was fresh, excellent variety of cuisines, changed daily, plenty of seating.  Exceeded our expectations.

i think its a little spread out.  But then lines were easily managed.

This is one area I worry about the light colors wearing well.  You know, the back of the chairs where everyone grabs.  Years of hands touching that spot.  Will it begin to look shabby and it has heavy-heavy traffic.

Dinner - we dined in Blu or Cosmopolitan.  No specialty dining.

i slept through dinner once (damn pills) and later ordered room service.  Menu limited.  Did not like the chicken noodle soup but the hamburger was safe for my upset tummy.  They said 30-40 minute wait.  No problem.  We were enjoying our big balcony.  Food arrived in 20 minutes.

As many have commented, there isn’t really a great place to put the room service tray.  The desk?  Paleeeeeeeze.  Put the other half on it and the balcony needs a big table we can all sit around and gab, write postcards or study your port excursion plans.

We struggled with our dinner choices.

As Aqua Class we had access to Blu but the first night we tried Cosmopolitan.

Service was ...... so good it hurt!  Rhandi (waiter) was especially special.  He was happy, efficient and friendly.  Everyone was terrific, honestly.

Food - never a whisper of dissatisfaction.

We went back the second night.  Lou’s Coke was already on the table, Jim’s beer arrived as he was helping me with my chair and my iced tea and Dark ‘n Stormy (it was a Bermuda Cruise after all) were on the table before my napkin was gently placed in my lap.  They made us feel special.

We told them the next night we would try Blu.  Apparently they did not expect us to return.

    Blu .....

Remember the moment in the movie Titanic when Jack and Rose are enjoying the raucous fun in steerage.  The movie breaks and you are now in the stately quiet of the smoking/card room?  THAT is the difference between the Cosmopolitan and Blu.

Both restaurants are beautiful.  Again in Blu, the chairs are white.  How long will they look fresh and new.

Dinner?  Memorable with truly interesting choices.  I had the grilled octopus salad.  If you see this - TRY IT.  Marvelous.

Our wait staff were perfection-really.....very good.  They even grabbed an escargot for me from the Main Dining Kitchen next door.

The next night it was tough.  Which restaurant?  They both had cheesecake on the dessert menu so I was happy either way. (Cheesecake is a slice from heaven. It’s based on a NY Cheesecake but not Big and overwhelming.)

We went back to Cosmopolitan.  (We did have our last breakfast in Blu.  It was a quiet restful way to end the cruise).

There was a Worry with the AquaClass cabins added during her stay in the shipyard that Blu would suffer from crowding.  There were plenty of open tables when we were there.

Apparently it was a big deal for us to return from Blu.  Rhandi got dessert soufflés For us from Blu and service jumped up - if that was

    possible.

We Did have lunch in Cosmopolitan a couple of times - Lou’s favorite thing to do.  Excellent.

We were seated in the big high back chairs for lunch once.  Clumsy to move into but very comfortable once you are seated.

That was quite a ramble.  Sorry about that.

We considered this cruise for next year, but booked something else instead.  Following along.

Keep it in mind for the future.  Everyone should see Bermuda at least once in their lives.  Problem is ..... if you see it once, you will want to return.

Comparing it to its southern cousins in the Caribbean the first thing you notice is how CLEAN it is.  No litter along the side of the road.

Locals know a big part of their economy comes from the tourist business.  They are sooooo friendly.

If there is poverty, I never found it (in the 80’s and 90’s I was a yacht Captain and stopped here in the spring and fall).

Ferries and busses run all the time and are an economical way to get around.

We just departed Summit on last Sunday. Overall, it was a wonderful cruise. We were in a concierge cabin. I wrote an earlier post, stating that I asked my cabin steward if he had heard that LLP mentioned on this board to ask your cabin attendant to provide you with a footstool. I won't repeat what I've already written, but will add that he said that all of the footstools were thrown away and it puts them in a bad position when people ask about this.

I thought that the ship looked beautiful. All of the color schemes, including the cabins, look much better in person than they do in pictures. We booked concierge because we like the expanded breakfast menu for room service, and of course, the controversial footstools. We did miss the large table on the balcony, but managed by eating breakfast at the desk. My husband brought in a deck chair each morning. Ironically, the dinky balcony table made a great footstool. We covered it with a towel and it was quite comfortable.

My only complaint with the room was the tiny safe. We couldn't fit our tablets in it, but we were able to put our wallets, passport, and some jewelry in it. The main issue is that the door does not spring open when you unlock it, and you have to pry it open with your fingers. My husband's fingers were too big, so I had to open it each time. We plan to bring a magnet next time and attach it to the front, and grab onto that to open the door.

Overall, we loved the cruise. These little issues did not impact our cruise in any way. The staff was wonderful and we loved Capt Matt. He is the youngest captain in the fleet, and just boarded Summit a few weeks ago. The food and the service were great. We'd definitely sail Summit again, just not sure that we would book concierge again, with all of the changes. We did get invited to the helipad for sail away from Bermuda, which was a nice treat.

Just off the Summit on the 8th.  😩

im a 5’1” wee lady with 3 surgeries on 2 legs after an accident.  I no longer launch well into bed.

i have noticed in our travels many hotels have higher beds now - they look more grand.

i started traveling with a folding step.  It’s wide enough for both feet but only 4” tall.   I didn’t take it - thought the beds were lower.  Checkout Amazon.

Ill be taking it in 255 days when we return to the Summit for Canada/New England.  😁👍❤️

  8.

In no particular order - 😉

My wonderful husband, Jim, is a Royal Caribbean - Radiance Class Man.  Aft Facing Balcony Cabins only.  I have tried to tempt him with sweet-Suite deals but if no aft facing I’m met with ........ silence.

in January I called him in a panic at work.  hANG UP, CALL CELEBRITY AND BOOK 9164.  Don’t ask questions.  Just do it.

He asked questions, of course, but he finally booked it with our friend Lou along too.

here is the good, bad and ugly.  Good far exceeds the other.

9164 - Handicapped Accessible Aft Facing Aqua Class Cabin.  During her refit this cabin changed to Aqua Class from Concierge and 2 pax instead of 3.

Ypon entry you are drawn in by the soothing color palate - much more attractive than photographed.  I DO wonder how all these light colors will last on a busy cruise ship.

right now ..... She is stunning.

Bathroom to the right.  You can hold your daughters sweet 16 party in here.

There are grab bars - good for rolling seas.  Standard cruise toilet with much room next to it to squeeze in your wheelchair.  Toilet to the left, shower chair to the right.

Shower is a long rectangle, shower seat at opposite end from shower controls.  (Shower seat is slippery - just sit on a hand towel).  There are bottles of Shampoo, conditioner and body wash which I used - satisfactory.  There is not much space for shower products YOU brought.  Desalinated water leaves your hair soft and fluffy and skin soft too.  Yummy!

Sink with a few small shelves is open below to roll in a wheelchair and mirror angles down which is a nice touch.

Sparse counter top - not much extra room.

oh yes, even in a rolling sea the water magically stays in the shower .... without a sill.

    Bathroom - big 👍

    Bed -

We asked our cabin attendant for extra pillows.  Hahahahaha!  We got FOUR big fluffy pillows (total of 8 on the bed) and a long body pillow. At night there were pillows flying everywhere!

Mattress comfortable.  I like mine more soft - go figure.

Im a 5’1” wee short lady with 3 surgeries between 2 legs after the accident.  I no longer launch well.  Next trip I’m taking a foldable 4” step to help me into bed.  Fits in my large bag perfectly.

2 small bedside tables with a drawer and shelves.  Lights attached to tables.  Round shade is glary (is that a word?).  We solved the problem by putting our hats on the globes.  They must be LED’s because the globes were cool to the touch.

LEAVE YOUR POWER STRIP AT HOME.  You have power plugs at the desk and in lamps on each side of the bed.

Next to the bed is a 1 1/2 person sofa.  Something in that sofa.  Every time I sat on it, I fell asleep.

    Other side of room.

The half-desk gets it half-right.  I was never in sink with it.  Just make it a standard depth and deal with it.

More plugs here, light switches, a few shelves.  We were not comfortable leaving much on the shelves at sea.  I roll around and things would be flying.  Next time the guards a little higher, please.  Thanks.

Round mirror and light - beautiful.  It’s a shame it doesn’t have a night-light level.  Actually there are NO night lights in the cabin.  We left the bathroom light on.  Next time I’ll bring a night light.

we moved the 2 chairs next to the desk.  Scooter fit in here perfectly.

Ok, I apologize.  I don’t have much good to say about the cabinetry.  Ready?  Here goes.

    cabinetry

    Materials look inexpensive....and the ARE.

Smoked glass front cabinets.  WHY?  Jim put his folded polo shirts in one side....already looked messy.  Rather than me straightening them all week, he just used some of the abundance of drawers.

Woefully little usable hanging space.  I came with multiple sundresses.  There was not enough room for my dresses and Jim’s dinner shirts.  Unsatisfactory.

Lots Of good drawers 😋 taking up hanging space😡.

i got a hanging shoe organizer to get the shoes up off the floor.  Absolutely no space for shoes.

    Finally ......

The doors were awful at sea; banging and creaking.  We used my Marine Tape (created for outside use-doesn’t breakdown in the sun.). It’s removable.  We taped the HECK out of these doors to keep them quiet.

    Balcony

    Gagunda

Not quiet - noise from bar above can be troublesome if you are a light sleeper.

Looks like the deck was replaced.  It looks beautiful.

    Views - stunning

i was not really well enough to get the most from this lovely ship and destination.  My newest medication basically put me to sleep.  I actually slept through dinner once.

My review of the cabin may be more fussy than most but I spent a great deal of time there.  I’m lucky it was such a nice cabin.

We are back from our sailing to Bermuda.  It was worth most (maybe not all) the melodrama a few months ago.

Celebrity reservations gave away our Accessible cabin booked for 4 months.  Had a General AQ cabin and our friend ... well he had NO cabin.  (We had made our final payment).

Going up the Celebrity food chain we finally found Mirai who realized Celebrity’s mistake and fixed things.

we had a $400 shipboard credit

    Gratuities paid

    Classic beverage package

Our friend was given an inside cabin for himself across from us and AQ privileges.

...and our file must have been flagged because every time we asked for something they fell over themselves to make it happen.

    nOTE:

im in a wheelchair.  I can walk but not far - freakish accident 10 years ago.  I’m also on a new medication for another problem that makes me sleepy.  I mean SLEEPY.  So, to me our drive from Annapolis, MD, to Newark Airport took about 15 minutes.  I slept and Jim listened to a book on CD.

We have a Rule.  We NEVER want to see the back end of our ship leaving port so we always spend the night before near the ship.

    Bayonne....sigh

Somehow we accumulated many Holiday Inn points so we got 2 rooms at the Crown Plaza near Newark airport.  I was not impressed.  Facility was old and as hard as they tried, it wasn’t a terrific part of town so it just wasn’t frosty new.

We met our friend when we arrived, had a bite, took a shower and I pretty much face-planted onto the bed.

    Following morning -

    We Are Going Cruising!!!

This is our first cruise from Bayonne in many years (new terminal was under construction when we were there last.). I’m sorry if I’m repeating what you already know.

Royal Caribbean has built a reasonably large boarding facility.  It’s sparkling clean, very friendly staff, parking garage gives protection from snow.

Drove to the ship.  LOTS of construction so Jeepers (GPS) was very confused.  Once we saw the ship we were OK.

Arrived about 11:00 (glanced at my watch). Lou had RAVED about how they treated his Mom in her wheelchair when they cruised in Alaska in May.  I sat down in my wheelchair and waited to launch!

No one came.  Lou tried pushing me but everyone said someone would be right there.  About 20 minutes later (Jim has parked the car and was now back) a very nice management type pushed me through to the handicapped area.  He said someone would be right there.

DO YOUR CHECKIN PAPERWORK AHEAD.  Wonderfully cheerful ladies showed up with tablets and if it took 2 minutes to actually checkin, I would be surprised.

My lovely ladies rolled me over to some chairs where the 3 of us sat ...... until 2:50 pm.

    Finally.  We were boarding.

Oops.  Shoreside pusher cannot Board the ship and I was stopped dead in my tracks trying to board.  Waited a while - in the way of others - while they found a crewman to help.

We arrived in our glorious cabin as they announced the Drill will begin in 15 minutes.

no leisurely lunch in the dining room, no time to checkout our cabin,  we had to leave RIGHT AWAY otherwise elevators would be filled and they rarely move for a scooter (waiting in our cabin) during an emergency drill.

We successfully drilled and went outside to enjoy the little gift the Captain gave us.

As many of you know, Bayonne is Below NY Harbor so we don’t actually pass Miss Liberty.

It was a Chamber Of Commerce - Perfect afternoon and the Captain turned port went up and did a 180 beside Miss Liberty.  She looked so grand in the afternoon sun.  I can imagine my Grandparents looking up to see her as they arrived from Poland, this statue so welcoming.

Off to pass under the bridge - horn blasting as we went under.

We were off to Bermuda and suddenly all The Whoo-Haa Of boarding was forgotten.

    end of part 1

           The carpeted floor

big shower - GREAT fold down

Seat - use hand towel to not

            Slide

      can hold your daughter’s sweet

             16 party in there

    Balcony?

Good thing there are plenty of

            Seats.  This will take your

            Breath away

      private except under panels

            Between balconies but our

            Neighbors were cool

Needs a tall table to sit around

            And gab, write postcards, etc

NOISE from bar just upstairs can

Be annoying.  If you are a light

            Sleeper, this cabin will be

            Troublesome- chairs dragging

       Permanent ramp in and out

This Cabin was especially bouncy when we had a bit of sea.  More so than the aft facing cabins on Royal Caribbean’s Radiance Class.  More

silly to stand but my horrible right knee was AWFUL the next day.

Oh yes, one more note about cabinetry.

We brought a roll of 3M blue tape.  It’s tape for exterior marine use.  It can be used outside in the sun and still be easily removed a week or more later.  We brought it to tape up the Nautical Charts we always bring.

in our 12-18 hours of bouncy seas we needed this tape for the cabinet door which were banging like crazy.

We loved this cabin so much we booked it today for a Canada/New England trip.

We had our first Celebrity cruise on the Summit in March.  We absolutely loved the ship and the size.  Especially loved the pool with the massaging pipes in the solarium.  We booked the Equinox for next October.  I think we also have found our perfect ship - the Summit was everything we need in a ship.  However, we have booked a cruise on Royal's Symphony to join my nephew's celebration for his graduation in May.  Personally, I would never book this behemoth.  But I am sure we will have a good time, nonetheless.  I am also looking forward to our cruise on the Equinox for comparison.

Im with you on big ships but it’s a very personal decision.

im Happy we hopped to Celebrity.  We were looking at Holland America’s smaller ships.  The spruced up Summit and our gagunda aft facing 9164 is perfect.

    enjoy your cruises! 👍😁

Just back from Jim’s first Celebrity Cruise - he has been a Royal Caribbean Guy.  I haven’t even written my review yet.

Jim was on a boring Conference Call and noodled around the Summit’s schedule.  He found a 9 day Canada/New England on the Summit and OUR CABIN.

    Its ours!

The Summit is our perfect ship.  Not too big.  Not a floating Amusement Park just a wonderful, classy little ship.

Oh boy if you need an accessible cabin, run, don’t walk to 9164.

Are we the only crazies who book another cruise less than a week after returning home???

    257 days!

I should complete a review in a few days.

Sadly there are no photographs.  The rockin and rollin hurt my knee with next to no cartledge.  I couldn’t get around and took a much needed pain pill.  I was knocked out till dinner.

im sorry guys.  I’ll try and describe it for you.

Now, must get more terrier hugs.🐺❤️🐺❤️🐺

Thanks Donut!  Safe travels home!   Glad you got a good look at the Statue of Liberty on your way out!

    Home. 😭

Happy for everyone boarding and Pea Green with Jealousy for whoever is staying in our cabin..... one of our best.

    More official later.

Highlight?  Our tour with Rene.  77 year old, he is the energizer bunny of tour guides and he LOVES his island.

Spend some time in St. George’s.

Close second -the ship and her crew.  Beautiful ship (especially our cabin).  Crew everywhere very nice and approachable.

    Lowlights?

getting on and off the ship.  This morning it was awful - even worse than getting on.

All the limpees gathered in the Martini Bar and surrounding hallways.  The head of the musical staff was stuck organizing it all.

We had more seniors than usual - still no excuse.

There were absolutely no pushers. Head music man was calling his friends.  One woman showed up and actually yelled at him .. “I have cabins to clean”.

People ashore said it was the ship.  Whoever it was it left a horrible last impression on a beautiful trip.

Lou’s mother joined them on an Alaska cruise this spring.  Mama Joyce was treated like royalty in her wheelchair with pushers waiting in line.

Oh well.  We will let Celebrity know.  I’m sure they will make things better.

We did miss stabilizers.  We went 100 miles out of our way to avoid 20’ Seas.  We DID have a bumpy/rolly night.  With my bad leg in need of a knee transplant, I was a webble.  You should have seen me heading across that big cabin to reach the bathroom!

My DH and I were on our second Summit cruise in July,2018.

We enjoyed both cruises and appreciated no airline flights as the port in Bayonne is a close drive for us.

I would be really interested in seeing photos of the interior of the ship after the “Edgification” it went through during the latest dry dock.

Enjoy your visit in Bermuda- our favorite vacation destination.  Very fortunate for you that you have an extra day there !

OP:  glad you've been having a great time (except for that embarkation problem, no excuse for that)!

We are scheduled to embark on the Summit on Sunday after you get off.  NCL has just announced that the Escape, which left NY last Sunday when you did and has been in Bermuda with you and is also scheduled to return to NY Harbor early this Sunday, will be delayed in its arrival to "2pm or sooner," and that the Escape's next cruise won't be boarding until late in the afternoon.

I have a small request:  if you learn on your way back to Cape Liberty (which I hope is a smooth sail) that your arrival on Sunday is going to be delayed (I'm not saying it will be), could you please post here (if you can) and let folks know?   If that does come to pass, I suspect you all on board may find out first...  Thanks!

In any event, enjoy the rest of your cruise!!

Captain just updated all of us.

we will go at least 100 miles, or more, out of our way to avoid Dorian.

right now he anticipates a 2 hour delay for disembarkation.

ok, phone off for sure this time.  We depart in 30 minutes.  Eyes filled with a few tears.

    we’re coming home for you!!!

I’ll be in airplane mode pretty soon.

we did ask around last night.  Everything is on schedule at the moment.

oh I’m so jealous - you will be boarding when we have giant tears in our eyes saying good bye to this splendid ship.

Jim and I have found 90,000 ton ships to be the perfect size for us. I’m sure we will return to Summit.

if you want a PERFECT shore tour, bypass the ship tours, go out to the public tour area and ask for Rene.  $50 an hour and he showed us the entire island in 4 hours.

Enough - my finger could be typing forever.

We will leave her sparkling and happy for your arrival.

jim has gone to the Jammer for beer and is going to ask around for any changes to the return itinerary.  I’ll report back if he hears of anything.

Wave to Miss Liberty for me.

I was on a RCL trip in 2013 from Bayonne to Bermuda.  On our return we crossed paths with the remnants of a tropical storm, I don't think it was a major hurricane.  Lots of motion in the ocean.  Most people stayed away from the pool deck, but the couple of us who hit the swimming pool (the only one open, and no kids permitted) enjoyed a virtual wave pool with water level shifting by about 3 feet from end to end as the ocean rocked the boat.

Probably more comfortable than trying to walk the hallways!

    Quick note:

spent morning ashore deep in retail therapy.  Ship about to leave and must change phone to airplane mode.

Cool Celebrity AP works in Airplane Mode - we check our menus for Blu and Cosmopolitan - Main Dining - on the AP each day before dinner.  Menu’s help make decisions easier.

Ok, phone off.  See you in Bayonne!  I love all the comments.

  19. Having a splendid time on the Summit in Bermuda.

The Captain came on the PA the first day.  Noooooo don’t switch us to Canada to outrun Dorian.

We got lucky and sped up so we have had an extra day in Bermuda.  How lucky are we - until we drive through it beginning Friday at 3 pm.

The Summit looks splendid for the most part.  I’m a former yacht Captain and cannot stop looking around.  But more later.  She’s beautiful and I’ll give a full review when we return.

We are in 9164 aft facing handicapped accessible cabin.  Plenty big enough to handle my wheelchair and scooter.

ill backup and say the service onshore for boarding handicapped was shameful.  We arrived at 11:30 am and dropping bags, where to go was confusing.  We finally arrived in the handicapped area, we were checked in about 2 minutes later and our wait began for someone to push my chair.  That wait was until 2:45 pm.  THEN we had to wait for. Celebrity pusher to take us to our room.

Muster still - oh phony.  We were stressed.

Departure was picture perfect especially because he turned to PORT and steamed up to visit the Statue of Liberty.  She was shining proud.

The Summit is lovely.  I can comment on our carpet in our cabin with raw edges and easy pattern to match - not matched.  Overall she is a gem.

Ill have photos in my official post.

oh yea.  If your cell provider is AT&T you can get a daily international plan for $10 a day per device.  It’s GREAT.

(of course I lost my phone in our tour cab.  Luckily Rene found it.). Great X 10 tour guide - Rene.  77 years old and the energy of a college student.

Just off Summit yesterday. Hubby and I dined at both Qsine and Tuscan Grill twice (three times at Qsine if you count the special lobster lunch we enjoyed there the first sea day). Very good food choices at both venues - we certainly never left hungry! The beef short rib pasta at Tuscan was especially tasty, as were the meatballs. Loved the spring rolls and sushi lollipops at Qsine. Summit does not yet have the Le Petit Chef in Qsine but I'm not sure if there are plans to bring it in.

The Powerful tug was docked at King's Wharf so I hope you will get to see it on your visit! I've attached a photo taken from our balcony.

    Ahhhhhh😍😍😍😍😍😍

thank you you so much for the suggestions (I’m in for Lobster Lunch 👍) and, of course, my Powerful!

Best wishes, sounds like a great deal after all that aggravation. When are you going, we are going on August 25th, Bermuda is beautiful, we have been there many times.

Wave!  We will be boarding when you are leaving!

so much about this cruise is perfect.

    Giant Aft Facing balcony cabin

Lou along so Jim and Lou can go off on adventures if I’m too tired

Lou is one of my best friends and to have a week with him will be great

Bermuda.  In my professional yachting days I would often spend a week or more in Bermuda moving the boat North or South.  Bermuda always felt like home.

To tell the truth, I personally would be happy to just see Bermuda from the ship (if I wasn’t strong enough to go ashore).

BUT ..... I really hope to see Powerful or Faithful.  Bermuda’s 2 tugs.

Faithful helped bring our boat through the cut into St George’s at the tail end of a hurricane when I had been hurt offshore.

Would love to see my Faithful again!❤️❤️

I don't understand a part of your Original Post, if your friend has an inside cabin, how do you get to eat in Blu.  Also, Celebrity has always been very strict about non AQ cabins not eating in Blu.  Are you in and AQ cabin and I sure hope you got that in writing.

We booked a Concierge Level Accessible cabin for 3 passengers last December.  It’s aft facing - a requirement for my Hubs, Jim and Accessible for me.  We sent back the document regarding my issues requiring the special cabin and a letter from my physician.  We bought no-fault travel Insurance which covers pre-exhisting conditions.

    We thought we were set.

A few weeks after final payment Jim got a cryptic message from Celebrity.  On the call back we discovered Jim and I were moved to a smaller, non accessible AC cabin on the side of the ship and our friend was just floating around in the Celebrity computer somewhere.

If that wasn’t bad enough, the Celebrity people refused to return us to our cabin, it was already filled with other guests.

It took an agonizing trip up the Customer Service food chain until we found Mirai.  She finally listened to us and looked at our record.

The guests were removed from the original cabin (which had been reclassified from Concierge/Triple to AC/Double) our friend was givin an inside cabin a sneeze away at no additional charge.  He will have all the perks of AC including Blu.

We also can dine in any specialty restaurant for no charge for all 7 nights.

There are more upgrade tidbits but no need to discuss them.

By the way, we NEVER asked for anything other than to have our original reservation reinstated.

Jim or I have spoken to Celebrity a few times since and each time the agent has told us the reservation is flagged as VIP and the upgrades listed.

What really is killing me?  My medical issues have resurfaced.  It’s touch and go if my doctors will allow me to sail - depending on the results of a biopsy being scheduled.

We fought so hard to get our cabin back and I have always wanted to share Bermuda with Jim and Lou.

Now all I can do is wait and ... cry.
