  1. Are you in communication with this person? Is this something you can discuss with them? Won't they tell you what they want out of this cancellation?

Since it's past final payment, the cruise line won't refund the other person's cruise cost. Only taxes & port charges as others here have stated.

It's their decision to not go on the cruise, it's a loss they have to live with. Of course, I'm sure 'they' feel otherwise.

from final payment date until 56 days prior to sailing all they would lose is their deposit.

from day 55 to day 30 prior to cruise they would lose 50% of their fare.

from day 29 to day 15 prior to their cruise they'd lose 75% of their fare.

from day 14 to the day of sailing no refund except for port taxes/govt fees.

  2. I am amused that you think entering your credit card number on a website (any website, but particularly one you already recognize as deficient) is somehow more secure than dictating the numbers to a person on the phone.

I agree with you. Even if the website was up to snuff (that'll never happen) I'd be more comfortable doing it over the phone than inputting online.

  3. Sailings out of NYC tend to have more people dress more formally on the first Elegant Evening of the cruise. It will not be unusual to see some people wearing tuxes and gowns, with other ethnicities wearing what goes as formal in their home lands (ex Scots - dress kilts and tartan, Asian Indian - sherwanis and salwar kameez). An equal amount will do the bear minimum of dockers/khakis with a button down and women in capris with fancy blouses. The bulk will opt for something more to the middle, dress pants and shirt with either a sports jacket without tie or tie without jacket, with women doing a "dress to impress" club style clothing.

Since the second Elegant evening is generally on the last port night (second to last night on board) more opt for a much more casual look. So you might see many wearing a Hawaiian style shirt with dockers/khakis and sundresses Others just recycle their previous Elegant clothing with different color shirts or accessories.

My advice go with what you feel comfortable with, as long as it not shorts.

The Horizon sailings from NY have 2 days at sea at the end of the cruise before getting back but like you said the 2nd elegant night seems to be much more casual.:)

  4. Update: My husband’s family found a decent deal on Allure of the Seas September sailing... so it’s back to RC! We have a $400 Carnival credit, though, so we’ll make it on one of the ships soon enough! I’m feeling at ease of going back on a huge ship. I think the Miracle would be fine entertainment wise, but I have a sneaking suspicion I wouldn’t be feeling too well.

Thank you everyone for your help! I very much appreciate it. :)

A lot of times that is all in your head.

My wife for the first few cruises we did she always got the patch and told everybody how she never got sick with the patch.

I always countered with, how do you know you wouldn't have gotten sick without it?

I finally got her to try a cruise without it. 33 cruises later has not been sick once.

  5. hi there! Looking for the best car rental site after getting off the Breeze in early December. Deciding between Budget and Avis. And thinking of paying the extra for cab from port to car site rather then free shuttle to avoid lineups when arriving at car rental site. Thanks.

All I can say is "Don't use Budget at Port Canaveral" after a cruise.

Before the cruise picking up at the airport is fine. After the cuise you need to wait for a shuttle to take you to the rental office which doesn't have any cars to rent until the people drop off before their cruise.

We just rented from them in April and it was a mess. They gave me a Chrysler Pacifica, not the Malibu I reserved. The car didn't get cleaned when it was returned, had 1/4 tank of gas in it and the incorrect odometer reading on the paperwork.

The paperwork also indicated I had a full tank of gas.

So when I returned it with a 1/4 tank of gas I was charged an extra $150 for not returning it full.

It took me about a month to get everything refunded going back and forth with customer service having to provide a couple different things.

I also got billed for 2 days of sunpass when I only had the rental for less than 24 hours.

  7. To: Royal Caribbean CEO Adam Goldstein

1050 Caribbean Way, Miami, FL 33132

Dear Mr Goldstein and Royal Caribbean.

My wife and I have been loyal customers of Royal Caribbean (RC) for over 20 years and we have enjoyed our cruises from beginning to end … from booking our cruises to disembarking the ship on the final day. Recently we have encountered your RC “non-refundable deposit program” (NR Program) which we do not agree with and we are now caught up in it.

For the first time since RC instituted the NR Program, we booked a cruise which required a $900 deposit. Due to unforeseen circumstances, just 30 days after our booking, and 15 months prior to the cruise departure, we had to cancel the cruise. Not only did we lose $200, as a “no change fee” but we also are in the process of possibly losing an additional $700 of our $900 deposit. RC’s NR Program states that after the $200 mandatory forfeiture, the remaining deposit balance cannot be refunded but must be used on a future RC cruise. This future cruise would have to be booked within 1 year of cancellation. In our case we live in Arizona and we do not fly. RC doesn’t have any cruises departing from California which makes it so difficult.

Why doesn’t RC increase the time limit to 2 years to ease the sting of losing $200 right off the bat, and to help the customer not lose the balance of their deposit? It would make your program a little more palletable and it would help your customers not feel like they are being thrown overboard by RC with this strict program!

In our situation we will be out of the country the entire year so in essence we will stand to lose our entire $900 deposit. RC will most definitely book our room to another customer because we cancelled our cruise 15 months before departure. We certainly could understand losing our deposit if it were 60 or even 90 days from sailing, however, 15 months and you are going to basically keep a loyal customer’s money when you will be receiving another loyal customers deposit when REFILLING the room that was cancelled 15 months earlier? This does not make sense to us.

For these reasons we will never sail with RC again and we are requesting your IT Department delete from your companies Data base, ALL of our personal information, including our loyal Crown and Anchor membership numbers. It is unfortunate that your non-refund policy has created a negative black mark on your companies reputation. Word of month spreads far and wide.

    Sincerely,

    Dennis and Kathie J.

  8. BJ keeps resurrecting old threads. lol

I think maybe he got a new excavator and is digging up anything he can find.

It gets confusing. Look at poor Riclop. He keeps posting to resurrected threads he already posted to when they were new.

Oh well it is what it is I guess.:)

  9. I have appreciated ALL the answers I have received from the question. The bad part, I have NOT acted anymore since I have been on here, other than a PVP was "supposed" to contact me over 4 days ago from Carnival, and I have yet to hear from anyone. I just got my husband out of the hospital, so I have sort of let this ride.:(

I guess, yes even at my age, I'm a little scared of something going wrong, if I don't book through the TA, that I have always used, but I do know her prices are $40 or $50 more. I'm thinking that is where they get their cut.

Here is my question for those of you who have BOOKED through Carnival directly,as it doesn't look like I will be getting a PVP, as I have tried 3 times, and nothing seems to work.:( I know they will give me a quoted price, but will NOT send me an email with that directly. I don't want to give them my credit card #,etc. and then they tell me (I have no way of proving what they say to me over the phone) they did not quote that price to me, and charge something else. How can I prove what they have quoted me?

Best wishes for your hubbys improved health.

I don't think there is a way to get it in writing before you give them your credit card. They will send you a confirmation within minutes after you book and if is not correct you could call them immediately but I have never had that happen before.

Travel agents get their cut directly from the cruise line. They must be charging a booking fee or something. That is the only way I could see the price being more so they are just padding their bottom line.

  10. What are ships that already have a sushi bar getting instead of the taste bar? Will the type of cutback that is just a cutback, a cutback with a free replacement or one with a for-cost replace I wonder?
Maybe they could put a blackjack table there.

  11. If you read up on the ship and what she offers and do not need all the bells and whistles of Oasis, Miracle would be a great cruise. Carnival offers a lot of fun - comedy shows and piano bar are great for evenings as well as Alchemy. The shows are not going to be as good and the food is subjective but I prefer Carnival. I hated the service on RCI and was so underwhelmed with food I didn’t book another cruise for 5 years - and then went with Carnival and have not gone back.

Things change. Do you think that RCI would still be in business 18 years later if the service was so awful.

If somebody was saying they wanted to go on RCI because they had a bad cruise on Carnival 18 years ago I'd be willing to bet you would tell them to give Carnival a second chance.

Nothing wrong with loving Carnival but using 1 bad cruise from 18 years ago to support your argument just seems a little biased.
