  1. Sorry for the confusion! We plan on land travel, flying from Anchorage to Seattle to do a RT cruise, or in reverse, whichever is cheaper!

Upon doing more research, there may just be too much travelling involved with going to Denali, even by train/bus. We'd be happy with just going to Anchorage and Seward on this trip I think, especially as we may be going to NYC as well.

  2. We will check out the Park Connection Bus and see what rail packages are available.

For Anchorage to Seward, we were looking into the Narrated wildlife transfer with Seward Alaska bus for $59pp, with photo stops and they also stop at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Centre.

Thanks for the suggestions so far.

  3. We'd be looking at July next year. We would be looking at doing the land portion first, before the cruise. We are looking at doing a cruise from Seattle return.

We can catch the train and motorcoach between Anchorage and Seward or Anchorage and Denali. I know Denali is further away, but I want to see if we can do both Seward and Denali, without doing a cruise tour.

If not, we'd only be going to one place, and that would probably be Seward.

    Any advice?

  4. I had posted a previous thread "Holland America itineraries help :)" but now I have an entirely different question! :)

Depending on our budget, we are looking at possibly doing a 7 day cruise and land portion on our own instead. This would be cheaper than doing the 14 day cruise.

We probably wouldn't be hiring a car, but would be looking at Seward and Denali National Park. We'd be booking the land portion ourselves as this is cheaper than doing a land tour through the cruiseline.

Because Seward and Denali National Park are in opposite directions, we would need to go through Anchorage, is that correct? Depending on flight arrival times etc, we will probably stay in Anchorage on the first night.

If not, we could stay there on our way from Denali National Park to Seward or in the reverse. Unless you have other recommendations, ie stay in Talkeetna?

    Thank you! :D

  5. I may have to do a new thread for this, but I had another look at cruise itineraries as well as land tours.

  6. Thanks for the feedback so far.

We will have to save up for Alaska and do more research on the ports!!

In saying that, we will keep an eye on prices for the 14 days itinerary and see whether it fits our budget. I'm hoping it does! The itinerary sounds amazing.

And you're right, you get a short day in Kodiak (7am to 2pm) but longer in other ports.

    Thanks again! :)

  7. Hi! You may remember my Alaka post last year. We have ended up booking a Panama Canal cruise for this October but will be doing Alaska in July next year.

We like the look of 3 of Holland America's itineraries as we would like to go to Sitka:

7 days Seattle return - Cruising Puget Sound, Juneau, Cruising Hubbard Glacier, Sitka, Ketchikan, Victoria

7 days Seattle return - Juneau, Cruising Glacier Bay, Sitka, Ketchikan, Victoria

14 days Seattle return - Vancouver, Ketchikan, Cruising Tracy Arm, Juneau, Icy Strait Point, Anchorage, Homer, Kodiak, Cruising Hubbard Glacier, Sitka, Victoria

We can get an oceanview cabin for the same price as an inside for the first 7 days an 14 days itinerary. We always book a balcony however it'd be outside our budget for Alaska, unless prices comes down! :D Right now we'd be happy with an oceanview cabin.

I know the weather is unpredictable but how likely is it for Hubbard Glacier to be cancelled in July?

I reckon the 14 days cruise would be even amazing, as it calls in Anchorage, Homer and Kodiak as well. This would save us doing a land tour, if we were considering this option.

Thanks for any advice or feedback! :D

  8. Thanks for the responses everyone.

We too haven't figured out what we will be doing while in Fort Lauderdale - but we will definitely do a Jungle Queen cruise, whether it is the morning or afternoon departure. And maybe go to the beach, be tourists & catch the Sun Trolley etc. :)

    Thanks again everyone!

  9. If the Water view is only $12/night then I would go for it - but ask for a room to rear of hotel. We have had City View - some traffic noise, Side Water View - noise from bridge lifts, rear water view - nice!

Taxi to port is no more than $25 - $30, but I would be inclined to go for the Pre cruise package. (unless the room only rate is coming in at less than $110.

Did you check the rates on Hilton MVP?

    Thanks for that. :)

The rates mentioned in this thread are MVP rates.

We are tossing up between Gallery One and Bahir Mar. decisions, decisions! :D
