  1. Not really worried about the cabin per se, but if we don't hear where we're assigned before boarding time,

what do we do with luggage tags if we haven't been previously assigned? I know it's a relatively small ship,

but would sure like to see our luggage again.

Hoping we'll know before boarding, but I also know it's possible to be assigned at check in.........

Always a great movie to watch on a Sunday Afternoon after a Roast lunch, and/or before your next Cunard Voyage/Cruise to get you in the traditional 'Liner' mood.

I like the way you think!

Ship of Fools is another favorite "boaty" flick!

  3. I kinda doubt they put anything "special" on the tables, maybe a small pointsettia? My only comment would be to keep it really small, as the tables are generally LOADED with place settings, silver, glass ware, etc. Some of  it is removed if not needed but heaven forbid if you order a couple of sides to go with your meal.....table tops get loaded.

  4. But for the most part, that's why we like it!

We'll be off on the QM2 in a couple of weeks. Talk about a cross section of clothing....Thank God we don't have to fly. We've got formal stuff weighing a ton, sort of dressy, dressy, shorts, bathing suits, and the beat goes on.....On that ship, we'll see everything from the "Royal look" to truck driver garb...

Interesting. Not our experience, so I guess that will vary.

I think you're probably right, but our bathroom was hardly luxurious....didn't really expect it to be, but

a clean, useable tub would've been good. I guess I could've complained, but for only 1 night, didn't seem worth the hassle. However, as I mentioned above, service was basically non existent.

For a highly rated hotel, I would've expected more.

    Your milage may vary.......

  6. Interesting info....thanks for sharing. Of course I still don't know what I'm supposed to be calling our "abode" on the QM2! We're in a Princess Grill...ah, room.....is that a suite? stateroom? cabin?

Or does that really matter what it's called? We're on the QM2 and are happy about that so who cares!

Not sure but I think the umbrage may have been at the use of the term "cabin" rather than stateroom.

I think it's about as important a distinction as calling a cruise on Cunard a "voyage," frankly.

So just what IS the proper name for a place where people sleep on a ship?

Cabin? Stateroom? Suite? and the distinction is........?

Seriously, not trying to make trouble here, but would like to know the proper verbage......

    Why giggle?

Too many bubbles??!! Most certainly didn't mean any disrespect....

Not many Americans are familiar with British bubbles, basically because we just don't get it here.

Will look forward to testing it in December.

  9. I've heard (and seen) lots about the refit, but have little to no info on the Red Lion....little blip on the video. Is the menu the same? What about draft beers? Beer menu?

Anyone out there have any new info?

    Thanks in advance!

  10. We've been at both the Mandarin and the Biltmore. Much prefer the Mandarin. Biltmore was interesting as a historic property, so touring the hotel and grounds was fun but our room left a lot to be desired. We had friends stop in our suite with a bottle of wine. We called for extra glasses twice and they never appeared. Drank lovely wine from paper cups....Guess I could've (should've) gone down to the bar and asked for glasses myself....

Bathtub had been refinished, but was cracking around the drain with loose pieces of the repair material just left loose in the tub....hmmm.....

Mandarin was a class act all the way. Wonderful room with harbor view....even fireworks....probably because it was close to Xmas. I want to be buried in one of their bathrobes.....giggle!

  11. I agree completely with what was said above. I've struggled to take the photos with my iphone and at check in, they just roll their eyes and take another one. Seems to me, the last time we boarded, we didn't do it and they just took them  at the pier.

We've just done the online check in and all went thru just fine without the photos....boarding passes, luggage tags, etc are all printed and done.

Figure Cunard can sort out the photo thing......

  12. We love "duck", but also enjoy cornish hen, turkey, goose and the occasional red meat.

We are looking forward to being back on the QM2 this month, but we're also cruising with Regent and occasionally Silver Sea. All are different but the same in that they offer good food, great itineraries, and lovely passengers. Non of the above are as huge as the QM2.

Some people are totally loyal to one particular cruise line or ship, but we like to change the menu up, depending on destination and cost. With the track being so fast with so many choices, it depends on what you like. There are no bad choices these days.

  13. I just watched the new YouTube video and it give us a good idea of what has been done. We'll be boarding in Dec. so it was nice to have a heads up on what to expect. I didn't see anything that warrants  a "WOW, that's different" sort of reaction, but everything shown has a fresh, clean glow about it, befitting the "Queen".

We look forward to seeing her in all of her newly found glory!

If there’s anything specific you’re interested in seeing let me know and I can try and take a picture today.

Queen's grill cocktail lounge (the most boring lounge on the ship),  stern grill's hot tub area, deck chairs, any change in the Chart Room?

Anything done to any of the cabins?

    Thank you in advance!
