Forgot to mention, you will really have to bundle up for a walk in the late evening on Promenade Deck on TA in October. It will be cold and windy. Probably even in the daytime.

Queen's Room dancing on QM2 usually ends about 11:30 or 12:00 midnight. Then everyone goes to Kings Court for something to eat. I would think the music and partying in G52 (is that the name of the night club) goes a bit longer. I remember going to movies that started around 11:00 pm. Fun to walk to cabin after the movie when the ship is just about empty.

Yes, you may walk on the Promenade deck at any time of the night. You will probably be the only one there after 10:00 pm. In fact you can walk around in the public areas of the ship.......you will see the people who are cleaning. The bars, etc. will be closed. I believe Kings Court stays open until 4:00 am.

If you arrive in New York (Red Hook) and are continuing on the next cruise, does everyone have to get off for the ship to be cleared?

I remember doing a double crossing from New York and we did not have to get off in Southampton. Have rules changed?

I was so very disappointed when I received my diamond pin and it was the new style. I worked hard for many years to become diamond with Cunard.

I posted on CC the fact that I was disappointed when I received the new style pin. Many people stated that they really did not care about these pins.....just shoved them in a drawer, never to be seen again. However, there was no one who offered to sell or give me their old style diamond pin.

Asking now.......Anyone want to get rid of their old style diamond pin. Email me at queenviccruiser@gmail.com

Does anyone have the email for the maitre d on Queen Mary 2. Could you please let me know. Thanks.

I have done a search on CC and many posts say "emailed maitre d" but they do not mention email address. There was one from 2012 but it must have changed as it was returned undelivered.

    Thanks for any help.

  6. Has anyone used Dial 7 or other car service from Red Hook in Brooklyn to EWR recently. I was wondering what the tolls would be for that trip. Last time we used Dial 7 from Red Hook to EWR the tolls were very high. Forget the amount right now.

We will be doing it again in a few months and will probably take Dial 7. Do they have to go across the Verrazano bridge as the driver did last time, or would the tolls be less by going back into Manhattan and then to NJ and EWR?

    Thanks for any answers.

By the way, I believe that the drivers prefer that their tip be in cash rather than added to the bill. That is what our driver wished.

  7. It has been six months now since DH and I returned from our cruise on Riviera. I gave them a question in the end of cruise questionnaire. Thought I would give them a bit of time, but have not heard anything from them.

We were in B3 on 7th deck. Have cruised many times with Oceania by the way. A few days into the 20 day cruise our toilet became hard to flush. I left a pen handy as that gave it an extra push and seemed to work. However I mentioned it to our stewardess and she said to phone Reception when it was acting up. The next day when it did, I phoned Reception. When we returned there was a message on the phone saying that our toilet had been fixed and if we had any more problems, we were to phone again.

We were enjoying our cruise. About 3 nights before the end of the cruise, we were going to bed right at midnight. DH used the toilet, but when he flushed it, the water kept rising right to the top. No solids for those who think otherwise. We waited for awhile, but the water level did not recede. I phoned reception, but when I asked if they would come soon, he was not sure. I guess that I will have to hold it for awhile. Since the beds are so comfortable, I went to sleep right away. Awoke at 3:00 and had to use the toilet. However, no one had come to fix it as the water was still up to the brim.

So what do I do? I could just put on housecoat and slippers and go down to the washroom on 6th floor beside the restaurant. Wrote a note to DH where I was going. Left the cabin and walked down the corridor. Now what happens next, happened in only a few seconds. The door was shut. I opened it and thought SMOKE......FIRE......NO.....HAZE.....MY EYES ARE STINGING. Shut the door and thought TEAR.....TEAR......TEAR as I went back to the cabin. Woke husband coming back and he wanted to know what was the matter. I told him and then phoned Reception. What is the haze in the hall? My eyes are stinging? Will I be ok??? Where can I go.....I need a toilet badly. He just said that he would get someone to fix the toilet right away and hung up.

I kept blinking my eyes to tear to get the gas out of my eyes. I think I started crying, which was good. Five minutes later and no one there. For those who are going to ask.......I had to take a shower in the middle of the night. Heard someone fixing toilet about 20 minutes after.

I do know a bit about the haze. I was on Riviera in 2016 when the Noro was on the ship. We were sitting waiting for needlepoint to start. The Social Director ran up to us and said to get out right away. 3 men dressed in Hazard Suits were spraying over near the bar and there was a haze in the air. We had all been talking and did not notice them. They should have asked us to leave before they started spraying though.

My travel agent was also on this cruise and the next day I was sitting beside her at dinner. I told her what happened. She said "Oceania does what they have to do". Then turned and talked to the person on the other side of her. I was surprised at that. However, she would never say anything against Oceania as it is her bread and butter. I found out when I got home that there were gastro problems on Marina at the time of our cruise.

I was never contacted by anyone about the questions I presented to Reception. They did not leave a message on the phone that they had fixed the toilet either. I was not going to use the last 3 days of my cruise trying to get answers from officers or personnel on the ship. It would be a waste of time. My eyes seemed to be ok so I just enjoyed the last few days of my cruise. I did tell them about it in the final questionnaire. We are told that all questionnaires are read by Head Office. Are they? Or did they just not want to answer my question which was.......WHAT WOULD OCEANIA HAVE DONE IF THERE JUST HAPPENED TO BE AN EMERGENCY AT THE TIME THAT THE STAIRS WERE FILLED WITH THIS SPRAY. THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN CIAOS WHEN EVERYONE'S EYES STARTED TO STING.

Oh well, I have just booked B2B2B cruises on a different line with a new travel agent. Not saying I will not come back to Oceania, but giving them a break for awhile.

You posted that you were on 5th deck and 11th deck. I am assuming it was a B2B and you changed cabins. DH and I will be changing cabins this November.

I was wondering how changing cabins is done. We will change in New York (Red Hook). Did you have to make any arrangements or were they done for you.

Any information on this would be appreciated.

    Thank you in advance.

DH and I will be cruising on QM2 from Red Hook. Second time in New York.

Two years ago we flew to EWR and took the train to Penn Station (I will have to remember how we did that again) and it was a nice day and we walked the 4 blocks to our hotel. We then took Dial7 car service to Red Hook cruise port.

I had also reserved Dial7 for car service back to EWR after the cruise. It was a very expensive ride. The tolls added up. We were charged $30.00 to go across the Varrozano Narrows Bridge. Plus other tolls. On mentioning this to someone, they looked it up and said it should only have been $11.?? . Oh well, he got us there.

We are returning in November 2018 to cruise with Cunard again. Not Thanksgiving weekend. We will probably stay in the same hotel and then take Dial 7 to Red Hook. Will be returning from cruise the first week of December and I was wondering the best way to get home.

I do not have a phone to use Uber. I could fly home from any of the 3 major airports in New York. I know that I must get the air soon.....very soon. I am wondering whether to take a car service or taxi. No rush. I like to stay on the ship as long as I can and therefore book a late in the afternoon flight.

Information please from those who have traveled or know prices. Do the taxi drivers have a set rate that they must charge from cruise port to airport. This is the case in Miami and Fort Lauderdale. You know the cost before you get into the taxi.

What would be taxi charge from Red Hook to EWR.

What would be taxi charge from Red Hook to JFK.

What would be taxi charge from Red Hook to LGA

If there is not a set charge, were there traffic jams. We are returning on a Saturday.

What has a recent car service charge been from Red Hook to EWR.

What has a recent car service charge been from Red Hook to JFK.

What has a recent car service charge been from Red Hook to LGA.

    Any information would be appreciated.

  11. On our last double crossing on the Queen Mary 2 which is from New York to Southampton to New York (actually Red Hook in Brooklyn) I purposely booked later flights. I am not sure what time we needed to vacate our cabins, but there was an area set up in a specialty restaurant for those who are Diamond (which we are) and also for those in the higher suites, where we could sit at tables and wait. Therefore it is done on some lines.

Tea, coffee and small sandwiches and cookies, etc. are set out for us to help ourselves. I am not sure how long you could stay. The food was taken away around 12:00, I believe. We left shortly after that. Not because they stopped the food, but because we had to meet our car service.

I am not sure if the ship must clear in New York. We always have to clear when doing b2b from Miami. I know that we do not have to clear in Southampton. You could stay on for a few hours. Now, they might call you to report to the Immigration Officers, as they might want to leave.

  12. Thanks Fayecruises, Underwatr and Host Hattie.

After booking I noticed where the laundry room on our deck was located. However our cabin is on the opposite corridor. From the deck plan I did not know if it went straight through or not. Might have been convenient, but maybe there is noise (even though we probably would not be in our cabin often during open hours).

Noted that QV and QE might go from corridor to corridor.

  13. I am having a hard time picturing in my mind the exact set up, as I have seen a few ship laundromats lately. Do the laundromats on QM2 go from port corridor across to starboard corridor, or is there just one entrance?

Thanks to anyone that can remember.

  14. Could someone please tell me the flat rates from Red Hook in Brooklyn to each of the three main airports in New York and New Jersey? I would appreciate knowing. Not sure which airport we will use for our next crossing.

Two years ago we used a car service. I thought I would order it for 11:00 am figuring the rush would be over by then. The area was still packed with cars picking up disembarking passengers. Might be easier to just take the first taxi in line.
