  1. Off her March 11. The ship is in great shape for her age. Food was so so. We ate half our meals in the main dinning room and half in the Windjammer. We would check the main dinning room menu each day and if it was not to our liking we would head to to the Windjammer. Always found something great to eat. Also didn't take two hours to eat. Deck four around the centrum are quit spots during the early evening, after that they have all kinds of entertainment going on. Their is never anybody up in the Viking crown lounge looking over the pool area. The solarium pool area we also found to be a quit area. Entertainment in the theater was very good.

added to my growing Rhapsody file. Considering I sail in 18 months, the file should be massive by then LOL

  2. Ok, so I know she is not a new ship, but she will be new to me. I've searched the threads, but there really is not a whole lot of info. Here's what I'm looking for:

Favorite quiet spot - am thinking possibly Deck 5? (we snagged a Panoramic OceanView so we don't have a balcony)

Little known facts, areas, details, etc.

  3. update from OP.

had physio yesterday and my knee is taped up. Flareup is still bad but mobility has improved. Still debating on scooter/walker, physio would prefer walker as that keeps the knee mobile and since there are 3 of us in the cabin, that would be much more practical in the room. Walker allows me to sit as needed but still be mobile, airline will transport it at no extra charge, and I'll be able to use it during the DIY land portion of our trip.

Walker also allows me to get off at Icy Straight Point. I can navigate stairs (slowly, I have a 2 storey house). Am also diligently doing exercises given by physio therapist.

  4. so I leave for Alaska in 2 weeks and cruise in 3 weeks. My knee has had an awful flareup. Right now, I'm having trouble walking and am hoping to have it somewhat under control by the time we board the ship.

Will I be able to borrow a wheelchair onboard??? I can walk around the cabin and such, but longer movement might be a stretch.

    Will RCI be helpful?

  5. So I have cruised Allure and Anthem. Am boarding Radiance in about 3 weeks and these luggage tags are totally different from the 2 previous ships (ie. they don't fit the RCI luggage tag holders I have.

Anyone else notice this? No biggie really, we'll just either put them on with packing tape or get some from the porters. Just a little irked that they are different.

  6. FWIW, the merchandise on the ships is pretty crappy and I stopped buying it after this incident. I have cruise t shirts from 10 years ago that have surprisingly held up, and shirts from a few years ago that are just total junk. The decline in quality is shocking.

I have "bling" T-shirts that I bought years ago and have worn and washed and worn and washed and they are INDESTRUCTIBLE... no pilling at all, look like new. Am hoping that the "bling" T-shirts are just as good. As for the destination souvenir shirts, if they last a few years, that's good by me.

  7. Came off Anthem on March 12th with several RCI T-shirts. My bad, didn't check or try on all of them, turns out 1 of them is a total dud... cut is totally off (seriously, it has a tail on the back!!! and it's not even centered).

I leave on the Radiance on May 19th. Just wondering if it might be possible to exchange it (for same one if they have or a different one)?

    Anyone ever try this?

  8. So a friend of mine sailed Anthem in March (1st RCI cruise) and will be sailing Radiance in May. How does she get/find out her Loyalty number to get the Gold promotions on her 2nd cruise.

I would tell her from experience, but I bought a Next cruise certificate on my first cruise and so my Loyalty number was assigned to me before the end of my first cruise.

  9. Just got off Anthem on Sunday morning. This was my 3rd cruise, my 2nd with RCI. On my previous 2 cruises, I have no specific memory of the Cruise Director. They were there, but didn't really add anything to the cruise.

This time I can truly say that the CD added to the cruise experience. Clo (aka Hello Clo) has a natural and engaging personality, a quick wit and could likely put a few stand-up comics out of a job. She was assisted by Activities Manager Kevin and someone named Prince (also a Canadian but didn't catch his official title).

Clo was visible, approachable, funny and willing to mingle with anyone. So, while I'll say that the CD won't make or break any cruise, I can now see that they can definitely add a bonus value do a cruise.

FYI, this was Clo and Prince's last cruise on Anthem. Both are moving to the Brilliance next (if my memory is correct).

  10. I'm boarding on Sunday in room 8152. It seems very near the ones mentioned above. I'm bringing these and I can vouch for their comfort. I can wear them all night with no issues at all.

I have no idea if the room is noisy but will report when we get back.

Well this gives me another option for my roommates if my snoring gets too loud LOL

  11. We booked through the cruise line. After the Apollo exhibit our guide gave the option of exploring on our own and meeting back at the bus at 6:45 or follow him. we chose to go on around on our own and meet back later.

So is the tour longer than stated? My cruise planner says tour is over at 5:30. Read somewhere that KSC closes at 6. I have reservations at Wonderland for 7...
