We aren't big spender type cruisers.
We try to keep our cruise prices to less than $100 pp a day, and try not to spend more than $200 per person during the cruise. In the past we've always booked inside or promenade view cabins.
Our latest cruise is a 10 day on Eclipse in a 2C veranda. We booked gty - so no perks and it ended up being around $90 a day pp before gratuities.
So, my question is, at our spending level, should we expect any sort of perks or bonus from using a Travel Agent? We are using one for the first time this cruise - and we have been happy with his level of service (he's prompt to reply and helped us upgrade cabins when price dropped after final) However, he offers no extras (as far as I know), and I'm wondering if this is even something we should expect from any TA since we are so budget minded.
thanks for your help!

I did a mock booking for next fall using the new promo. This time we are considering taking the 2 young 'uns. Amazingly, when I go from 2 to 4 people in an inside cabin the price per person goes UP 100 dollars!! Maybe Celebrity really doesn't like children - lol!
Just kidding, don't flame me :D

All Captains have lunch at the buffet all the time. Why is this news? Oh wait, because she's female [emoji849]

Well, aren't you sweet?
You know, not all of us have had 571 days at sea.
Or even 57.
Or even 5.
I have personally never seen a captain eating anywhere. I once saw one of the comedians eating at the buffet and thought it was weird that he would eat with us common folks. (Especially after all the folks he had picked on the night before!)

I weighed in but forgot to post!
Down another pound this week - that makes 3.5 so far. sloooow loss, but at least a loss! I only have 6 weeks left before cruise, so probably won't make my "A" goal of 15 lbs. But I can still make my "B" goal of 10 lbs.
Cruiserman: Fantastic loss! Stay strong today (Halloween)
Diana: no weight gain is a ++++
shootr: nice loss! don't go looking for those snacks :)
Belle: How did your friend enjoy their Vista cruise??
Ok, Everyone. Entering the hardest time of year to lose.... STAY STRONG!

We had select dining on our July cruise on Reflection, even although we asked to share we were still allocated a table for two. The first night we waited about 10-15 mins. the next night it was 45 mins. after which we asked to see the maitre'd who agreed it was unacceptable and allowed us change us to second sitting t
Thanks for the info! This is good to know!

We are late eaters - So I'm wondering if the wait is less if you eat at 8:30 or 9?
We love traditional dining - but our last few experiences have been NOT so positive (No one showing up, tablemates that didn't talk, tablemates that wanted to "swing" etc.)
However, we have some wonderful friends that we still keep in contact with from our first cruise - which is why I am uncertain about the whole select dining experience. Does anyone know if we can change back to traditional if we feel that Select is not enjoyable for us?
-
We are currently booked with Select Dining for our 25th anniversary cruise. I do like the idea of being able to eat whenever we choose, but I have always liked having table mates and getting to know our servers. Do you lose part of your overall dining experience with Select, or have you found it to be just as satisfactory as traditional dining?
Subscribing to this thread, because we are in the same situation and feel the same way. I'm looking forward to responses!

I'm gonna be honest. I've never wanted to take an Alaskan Cruise until just now! You are quite the photographer - excellent at capturing the breathtaking essence of the scenery!

hmmm... everything looks fine on my end. Same font size as every other post. Of course, I already have CC zoomed, since I'm past 40! I'm looking forward to the rest of your review.

.......and girdles. I remember my mother saying that a lady NEVER left the house without her girdle on. I rarely saw her in slacks. Sheesh, she even did the housework in a dress.
It took me years to get used to the fact that women don't wear pantyhose any more. It still looks totally wrong to see women in formal dresses with bare legs! Times do change.

Here are the menus from a recent cruise taken by the Preismans, which contain several non-alcoholic drinks:

Cheers!
This site is an information treasure trove!! Thank you!

I just searched the forum and found this link:
http://www.cruisewithgambee.com/celebrity-drink-lists/
Very helpful as far as what is in a drink and how much they cost!
I do have this question:
When they make a drink "virgin" what do they use in place of the alcohol?
-
The Sunset Bar has a lovely sparkling mint lemonade and a watermelon drink that is quite good as well.
any idea how much this might cost?
I don't drink alcohol, so have no idea what the alcohol version of drinks taste like to even know what I might like - Last few cruises I just ordered a orange juice and sprite, but would love to incorporate some new flavors this time! Thanks for the tip on the Mint Lemonade - sounds like something I would enjoy.
Anyone else have more suggestions of fun non-alcoholic drinks?:D

Stayed the same this week - but I've been sick and my body is all messed up. Eating has been pretty good, though, which has been terribly difficult since I usually use food to self-medicate when I am feeling bad.
Belle: You hit on my secret weapon - only buy treats and such that I don't like! I still have kids at home (9 and 11) and they know that some snacks and candy (I'm talking to you Reeses and Hershey!) are simply not allowed. My husband bought a pack of Oreo's before the hurricane - and they have been sitting in my pantry calling my name for a week! Finally, I opened the package, took out a few cookies for my daughter and myself - and threw the rest away before I could stop myself. Put them in the trash compactor and smashed them flat!
Mr Buck: Congrats! I love WW - it is the only diet I ever lost weight on and KEPT off! Enjoy your TA!
Cruiserman: Keeping weight off is a beautiful thing!
Diana - always nice to need to lose weight because of a cruise :)
Hope everyone has a losing week!

I didn't know you can order from them online, but you can. You can also return items to the store. Please check the limitations.
I had no idea! Thanks for this!

Thank you for all the great advice and tips.
I just need to make my hotel and transportation arrangements. Then I can try to plan the ports. I am not sure why but when I finally decide to go on a cruise I get obsessed with the planning to the point that I can't wait to get home from work and plan, plan, plan. I need to stop this because it ends up being more work than fun. Does anyone else obsess over the planning?
OMG, yes! We booked this same cruise 3 weeks ago, and I'm experiencing the exact same thing. My husband is more a "fly by the seat of your pants" kind of guy and cannot understand why I have to know exactly what the menus will be or have detailed maps of each island we are visiting! I mean, I have spreadsheets for each port for goodness sake! It's driving me crazy that I cannot find out yet exactly which port we will be docked to at St Thomas!
UGH!

Hi - I'm 99% sure I am going to call tomorrow and confirm my cruise they are holding. It's 10 night Eclipse on Dec 11. It's a Concierge guarantee with 3 perks for total of 2500 for 2 of us. I think it's a pretty good deal.
Do I need to sign up for the shows like Royal Caribbean? Are there any other tips on favorite things to do or see? I'd appreciate any tips. I will search out other posts too. I need to start planning what to do at the ports.
Thanks for any advice.
No advice here, but we are also brand new to Celebrity and will be cruise mates! We did Veranda GTY with no perks for around 1800, so it sounds like you are getting a great deal!! Be sure and sign up on the Roll Call if you haven't already :)

My daughter has an "emotional support" Pit Bull. It was the only way she could have a dog at her apartment complex. The complex was "dog-free" - but I saw many dogs every time I visited. Apparently, it has become a way to beat the system.
I think it's ridiculous! She's the most emotionally stable person I've ever met! But no apartments would take pit bulls, so I understand why she did. Still...
(BTW, all you need to qualify is a letter from a Dr. and a small fee.)

June have friends on Vista now traveling with friends with
kids in that section. I will to ask them how the Harbor Lounge
was.
That would be awesome! Thanks!
And, I appreciate your keeping this going! I look forward to your little poems and appreciate your keeping us all on track!

Well, I bounced back from my overindulgence during the hurricane (yeaaa!) and lost 1 pound this week. I'm 160 now - just 10 lbs to go to reach my "B" goal of 150 ("A" goal is 145) and 8 weeks left.
Congrats to Cruiserman on a very nice loss!
Happy Thanksgiving, Jo! I don't think .2 lbs is very bad at all!
Have fun on your cruise - Oh, and if you get a chance will you check out the Family Harbor Lounge? I'm considering this cruise with the kids next year and was wondering if the Harbor Lounge was worth the upgrade. My kids LOVE having snacks available at all times (lol!) and I think they might enjoy this feature more than anything else, but only if it is maintained and not overrun with unruly children.
Hello Belle!! I'm fairly new here - are you a forum moderator?

I am a few days late. But here is my weigh in 171.4.
I was down to 159 from 212 at the start of my cruise in September. I fell off the wagon but yesterday I jumped back on.
We cruise again in January and I would like to be 150 by then.
My goal is to be 150 by my December cruise - so I'm right there with you! 10 lbs to go in 8 weeks. I think it's doable!

I've been on and off eating a ketogenic diet since July 4th. It works when I work it. I have had too many cheat days/weekends lately. Now that I've booked a cruise for August, I am more motivated to start again. I just made a vision wall for the next 100 days that will take me to our Disney vacation in January that includes diet, meditation and exercise. I've lost about 24lbs so far and am looking to lose another 25-35. I gained a bunch before being diagnosed hypothyroid and it has been extremely difficult to lose. Eating keto is the only thing that has touched it. I would love to be comfortable in a bathing suit again!
What is a ketogenic diet? Is this one that you must see a Dr. for?

TA perks - what can I expect?
in Celebrity Cruises
Posted
I never even knew you could do this... shop around afterward! Thanks for the tip!
I'm working with a local TA now, which could be the reason for no perks. Of course, he has done an excellent job of assisting me in making decisions etc, so I appreciate that. And there is the whole "personal contact" thing that I'm not sure you can get from a "big box online" TA. I have been hesitant to "lose control" over my reservation by using a TA, but so far the experience has been positive. I'm curious... when you deal with the large online brokers do you get an actual person to contact (talk to on phone etc.)?
