  1. hi, BullDawg! I am mainly going for the steam and sauna rooms period. So if those are free, that would be cool.

Can someone definitively clarify for me if these are gratis. Just the plain sauna and steam in the locker rooms.

    thank you!

Look at the floor plan for the gym, there is a sauna in the free area but not a steam room. The spa amenities are a whole different ball game. Heated lounge chairs, therapy pool, three levels of steam rooms with aromatherapy, and a sauna area - very much worth the expense if relaxation is your game.

  2. No cruises since September on Carnival. I was hoping they stopped that practice. It's extra work for the bartenders and takes longer.

I presume it is an inventory check, since no extra tip is required as you tip when you purchase the program. I bet the "beards" want to know what portion of soda is going to bottomless bubbles vs in mixed drinks vs sold by the glass.

  3. First time cruiser on the Carnival Magic in July with all kinds of questions. So many I have been able to find answers to on these boards- thanks to everyone who chimes in and answers questions.

My question is about the soda you carry on. I read about people bringing their own wine into the MDR and having to pay an uncorking fee or something like that. If you bring your own soda- can you bring it with into the MDR and put it in one of their glasses with ice? Or is that super tacky? Sorry if that is a silly question, but I haven't been able to find out much about it in my searches.

On your first night at the MDR, ask for a glass of ice to be at your table every night and it will be there. I also take a carnival lidded cup (bought in the gift shop) that I fill with ice and carry everywhere with me. I am an iced tea drinker so dinner is not a problem, but I have soda during the day and carry a couple of cans with me.

  4. That makes me concerned about turning my young son loose with one now. Do children sign these?

My grandson, aged 10, had one. We told him what to do for the signature. On the next to the last day, he wanted me to go with him to the bar so he could give a tip to the bartender who had been so kind to him throughout the trip. He routinely went to the same bar. Sometimes he would have his 5 yo brother with him and the waiter would give him two sodas so brother could have one. He had decided that $10 was what he wanted to give, so I, being a very pleased grandmother, provided the ten spot and my boy was thrilled to be able to do that. His sign and sail card did not have charging privileges so I was not worried about him spending all his money without realizing it.

  5. I traveled with family and friends (7 of us) to Alaksa last summer on NCL. There was a large group (probably close to 1000) employees of a particular company. They had a lot of venues taken over during our cruise but the big problem was that each evening, one of the two MDR was closed to regular passengers. It was changed every day, so you could not make plans to meet at a particular time at a particular MDR. WE would arrive at the one we agreed upon to be told we had to go to the other one. Of course, by the time you find your group and relocate, the wait list was enormous at the open MDR, forcing us to wait an hour with three small children or eat at the buffet, which we finally just did every night. We did get smart and go by their functions table and look at the activities they were planning for the day so we could plan accordingly, but the MDR choice was not listed on their activities sheet.

  6. I check them daily.. but she told me that she checks all the time, and will keep me notified right away if any offers come my way... i do check them and know when they are there. She told me herself that she had been notifiying others before but didn't see anything on mine. She does check. I really don't need her to do that, as i said, i always check myself.

She still has not notified me of the itinerary change, I think it is just another thing that shows me she is not on top of things as she should be....

Make sure that you have a correct e-mail address listed in your Carnival website information. That is how you receive information about changes on booked cruises. Make sure that these messages are not going to junk/spam mail, some of mine were until I added carnival to my contacts in my email inbox.

  7. Only a few carnival cruises ... What is butter and blanc?

it is a sort of bread pudding, but not - like cubes of white cake with a dark chocolate core served in a souffle cup, hot, then the waiter breaks open the top and fills it with a delightful warm, vanilla sauce - then you are in heaven as you eat it!

  8. Another vote for the Bitter and Blanc - be sure to be ready for the delicious sauce they pour over it! The first time I had it the waiter split the top open so none of the delicious sauce was lost over the side. The last time, the waiter did not split it and I was forced to lick the sauce of the plate - my table mates, rather than being embarrassed, joined me once they knew of its deliciousness!

  9.

Breeze does a similar run from its current home port to Galveston in the same time period. Then Breeze has a 2-day CTN Dec 9, 2016, before resuming Magic's old schedule.

I am on this cruise with my daughter to introduce her to this class of ship. I have been on the magic twice but she has only been on Conquest and next March on the Triumph for a whole family cruise with my grandsons and the rest of the family. Can't wait! We have a spa cabin - she never gets to relax as a full time teacher and mom to three boys.

  10. Hope it's okay to add on a question. I have read that there are areas of the spa where you don't need the pass. Which areas are those?

Check the floor plan for the gym (not the spa) those are the things that can be utilized for free - usually a steam room and sauna. The spa pass is well worth the investment. We go to the spa as soon as we board and purchase the pass. They are usually gone by late afternoon on day 1 - thus leaving no one day passes available.

  11. Perhaps it is the particular ship. I, too, am a foodie, an accomplished home cook who has yet to have a bad meal on Carnival. I have only sailed on the Magic and the Triumph, been to the Magic steakhouse and LaCucina, chef's table on all of my Carnival sailings, Blue Iguana and Guy's burgers. Found something great about each of these meals, I spoke with the waitstaff if I felt something was served at the wrong temperature and it was promptly fixed - they were all a delight to work with. Now, Norwegian - different story entirely - have sailed to Alaska twice on NOrwegian - first time, 14 years ago was wonderful - food was all delightful. Last summer, food was mundane and tasteless. Every night one of the MDR was taken up with a large corporate group and was closed to the rest of us - making the other dining room impossible to get into. Ate every meal at the buffet - edible, plain, not seasoned, boring - and always the same.

  12. I have the tall round Carnival cooler (has now been replaced on the Bon Voyage site with a square one) which we take off filled with ice and drinks at all beach stops with no problem! Love that cooler - one of the "beer buckets" fits perfectly inside to keep it from leaking.
