1. I was just thinking about this today! We leave Sat and was wondering.......hmmmm when is that nice elderly gentleman going to give us a call to wish a good cruise and thank us for cruising with RCCL.

As soon as I hear his voice now, I know it is not the upgrade fairy. I let him say his spiel then say thank you and that's it.

I would most definitely prefer we did not get these calls. Agree with whoever said .... call the newer cruisers and wish them a happy cruise. I think they would get more mileage out of the call.

  2. Has anyone gotten a C and A savings on a cruise less than 6 nights??

I don't see any listed under 6 nights.

It looks like that 409 cruise number may be all cruises 6 days or more.

Yes we booked Vision 4 nights Sept 25th 2014 with Military and CAS.

Also it is interesting you will not see the full savings because the CAS is a percent% if the rate is what I was told.

If you do a mock booking now it shows Military discount of 75pp and promo code off of guest 1 only of 25.00.

When they applied the CAS it was now 23pp along with the 75pp military rate. Cheap cruise at 126pp

  3. You could post a special note to her in the Cruise Compass that she will discover while reading it. I believe the cost is $25.

It will tell you how to arrange this in the Cruise Compass for sure but I believe it is arranged by GS once onboard.

    Have a wonderful cruise.:D

Just realized you are not travelling with her, so my suggestion might not be able to be accomplished unless someone else does it for you.

  4. Hi, Lynn,

My two favourites are at Totton & West End.

But don't bother to look them up on the map, they're both on the city outskirts & quite a long walk from Holiday Inn - about 3 miles

Years since I've bought from chippy in the city centre, your safest bet is Harry Ramsden's in the West Quay Mall - just a 5-10 minute walk from Hol Inn.

This is a national chain, set up many years ago from humble beginnings. So a chain rather than a "local chippy", but I've eaten at many of his places & always found the food good, the portions generous & the value excellent.

Like his other branches, the surroundings are a bit modern & "cloned", rather like most of the shops in the Mall.

Because it's in the shopping mall food court, the opening hours are the same as the mall - no late-nights.

(Click on the map, its location is marked & you'll see Hol Inn at the bottom of that map. Very handy)

    JB :)

Thank you John. Do you know if Totten and West End have delivery service to the hotel?

Otherwise Harry Ramsdens will be fine.

  5. What is the best floor and or stateroom on the oasis. Currently on deck 6 in 6664

We have stayed in 6660 and loved the location. Right around the corner from Boardwalk, up one to Park Avenue, down one level to the Royal Promenade. I did notice the cabin seemed to be a wee bit warmer. I attributed it to the doors constantly opening and shutting to the Boardwalk where it was very hot and humid.

    Have also been on decks 7, 8, 9 11 and 12.

I would never book deck 7 near the rear elevators again as you cannot walk from port to starboard. The is no walkway there because of the large Boardwalk sign.

  6. From Royal Caribbean Blog

Effective January 1, 2014, Royal Caribbean is retiring the old paper based comment card (guest satisfaction survey) and replacing it with*electronic distribution post-cruise.

The change to an electronic format*means the consolidation of comment cards into an email distributed invitation that will be delivered*within 24 hours of debarkation.

Royal Caribbean hopes the new electronic surveys will improve*efficiency and cost savings but more importantly a guest-driven approach that will foster engagement with our guests, placing the insights in the hands of the crew.*

The paper surveys have been in place for 40 years and have become a major way the cruise line gets important feedback from its customers. *Royal Caribbean boasts it uses the feedback considerably in making decisions.*

Royal Caribbean already collects email addresses from all guests over the age of 18 and these people*will now receive an email invitation to participate in an online Guest Satisfaction survey on the day of departure. Guests will have 7 days to complete the survey, after leaving the ship. The survey works on smartphones, tablets, laptops and other computers. It takes approximately 7 minutes to answer all questions in the survey. All responses will remain strictly confidential.*

This new survey will launch on all ships for all sailings debarking on or after January 1, 2014.

I hope this email comes in our "online messages" and not into your personal emails that you might or might not check (for a fee).

I do like to leave suggestions along with positive and rarely negative feedback for each cruise..

  7. We recently completed a cruise that had a stop in Venice. We were a small ship under 600 passangers. We were docked in Marghera pier area (meste comerical port-second biggest in Italy) We were told that many of the cruise ships from now on will be docking in this area. Note it is a thirty minute ride into the Venice Maritima Station (old pier) You will be dropped on here. To get on the bus for the return trip, you have to go thru the termianl and security with passport-same as last year) but then you have to wait for the bus or buses to return you to your ships pier.

This November the wait in the afternoon was over two and half hours.

Hopefully, this summer season, they will figure out the time and need for buses. Since it is a comerical port there is not other way in or out of the port area. We did an overnighter, and very few people went back into Venice the second day. We were the only pax on the bus both way. Yes, everyone should see Venice at least once.

Thank you for this very important information. Where the ships will dock next Oct is just a guess right now from what you are telling us.

How far were you from the airport from that pier?

  8. :)

I also think the RADIANCE Hawaii itinerary is quite boring - it's not worth the long flight to Hawaii... RCI should have shortened the Transpacific and spend more nights on the Hawaii itinerary...

Or booked passengers on RHAPSODY will be re-booked on one of the new itineraries for RHAPSODY which she will offer from April/May 15, which are currently not announced...

You have a gift for understatement - Radiance's itinerary sucks. I love the ship, but not enough to take a cruise that departs on a Wednesday, doesn't overnight anywhere and skips Nawilili. We have Solstice booked for 11 nights. Still not ideal, since she doesn't have a port before Vancouver.

Now I'm thinking we may just spend a week or two in Hawaii, maybe one on Kauai and another on Maui. What a hardship!:p

I can only quote 2 about the terrible itinerary.

Geeez you know. Me and maybe one or two other suckers booked the Radiance for Australia B2B to Vancouver. Keep up the talk please as I am hoping the prices will plummet.:)

  9. Thank you to those of you that told me what you did and didn't like about the different cruise lines, that is what I was looking for. Maybe I did word the question wrong in the first place, but I know a lot of people are loyal to one cruise line and I just wanted to know why you liked this one the best.

We usually go to the shows and we were blown away by the shows we saw on Princess, but usually disappointed by the entertainment on Carnival. Several people mentioned how much better the entertainment was on RC, so that may convince me to give it a try. I also appreciated the honesty about the food, we loved all the soufflés we had on Princess, and my husband loves his Chocolate Melting Cake.

Sorry to say you will not find the CMCake on Royal. That has to be one of my all time favorite desserts. Oh I can taste it now.

  10. Guess what? Sometime between 8am and 12noon today, The Crown and Anchor Free Upgrade Fairy visited us!!! :D:D We went from a Deck 2 VERY forward porthole cabin (#2006) to a Deck 7 Midship D2 Balcony on the Legend through the Panama Canal next month. What a wonderful surprise we got when I checked our My Cruises account to make sure we had our C&A Upgrade Preferences set up right and found out that it wasn't important anymore! :D:D

Excellent! So much for the one cat upgrade they have been sending out emails about. That is fantastic!

  11. Good for them. I book based on the ship and the itinerary, not based on the number of points I can get.

    Directed at RETNAVY1966...

It was my understanding that if a person booked more than one cabin on the same cruise, they would still only get credit for one cabin.

  12. Thanks - but not a JS....it's a Crown Loft Suite - and prior suites have always been double points? I'm so confused!

I DO always pay double, so from my perspective, it is fair if I am paying for two people.....

    So still 21? or 28?

    THANKS!

    Debra

Crown Loft Suite is the same points as the JS......you would get 21 points assuming it's a 7 night cruise.

    Ahhh...nothing to sneeze at!

  13.
Yet when the couple moves up to a higher status they both move up. When a solo cruiser moves up on status only one person moves up.

Still, if it is that important to you, both two adjoining cabins, pay double and get double the points.
You make a good point here!:D

I never mentioned if it was important to me or not. Which it is not. Simply looking at the scenario.
