  1. You've probably answered this question before but what is the taxi situation like at Newark airport? at Cape Liberty? will I have a problem with a 11:10 flight home? or do I change it to a later flight?

And on the same subject, to expand on Carol's answer, (we are also on this sailing), there will probably be an amazing amount of walk-offs. It is a Monday morning, traffic will be tough, and security at Newark will be tougher. I live In Bayonne, so my postings on this kind of stuff comes from the experience of dealing with the traffic every day. So, as I answered the other poster, I wouldn't do it.

  2. Are you sure the change is to Bistro or is someone confusing it with the Porch changing to seafood?

As for Bistro on 5, I liked that brief period when X was experimenting with an expanded dinner menu that included steak, chicken, pasta. On Summit, I think.

We were told during the October repo that Bistro on 5 is becoming sushi during the February-March refurb on the Summit.

  3. Having never sailed in one I'd appreciate any thoughts. Ship would be Infinity

    Thanks

Have had a sweet sixteen once. The balconies are about twice the depth and very comfortable to sit out on. I don't think they are too far forward at all. I have also had a C1 once when a spectacular price became available after final payment several years ago. That was before Celebrity dropped prices and made them available as special rates such only, as resident, so you could no longer upgrade and keep your perks. Would I rather have a C1? Absolutely. Balconies are as big as the cabins. But be prepared to pay quite a bit more.

  4. Well that's just great ! We had been planning our yearly mega-family cruise on the Jan. 21 2017 Summit, mainly because of the great new itinerary with an overnight in Barbados. Why is it that it seems all the fantastic overnights have been chartered out ?? Looking into Royal Caribbean now. Celebrity, you disappoint me.

Talk about these cruises being cancelled began months ago when someone on the boards stumbled across the jazz cruise website. Celebrity officially acknowledged the changes about a month ago when we were informed along with everyone else that our January 31st 11 nighter was cancelled. C'est la vie.

  5. OK, Yes I really did try to find the answer before posting. I even tried calling Celebrity but hold time was over 30 minutes and had to give up.

I booked 4 cabins this last weekend and we all did the "Go Best" add-on for everyone. Since this is only my 2nd time on Celebrity and the other 7 in my group have never sailed on Celebrity, we are newbies to the beverage package. I have never bothered to purchase it on the other lines we have sailed on. We did it this time since the $313.00 we thought was a great deal for us since it included the other 3 options also.

Question is : Is there a limit to how many drinks or total cost you can do each day with the Premium package on Go Best? I know it is for drinks up to $13.00 but my question is, during the course of a day if I order several bottled waters, a few specialty coffees, a few beers, maybe a soda or 2, and during the evening a few other more expensive drinks is their a time they say "Sorry you have reached the $ limit for the day?"

Now before anyone starts saying I'm on a drunk fest or something we are not a drunk party group. It just seemed weird that the "chat person" on Celebrity website said you can only have up to $65.00 per day in cost of beverages each day. If that is true than while the heck would anyone purchase it? Is the "Chat person" wrong or is there a ceiling on $ each day. And yes I completely understand/agree if someone gets to drunk they should cut them off.

    Any help/answer is appreciated

Totally incorrect. There is no limit on beverages purchased, otherwise why would you get it? The only limitations are that you can only buy one drink at a time with one card and the $13 price ceiling. Anything costing more than $13 you pay only the difference with the premium package.

  6. Thanks Joe. I survived the "Big Dig" in Boston so I know what you mean by the confusion caused by daily configuration changes.

What do you recommend for the unsuspecting cruisers? I'm sure I could figure out the Ave E route, but I'm not sure about others. Would the 440 south overpass be easier? Meg didn't end up going that way, but maybe it wasn't marked well. You'd think that if they were putting up new signs they would slap a big "Cape Liberty" on one of them.

There are no sailings until next Sunday the 22nd, I believe, but for now I would say to take the 440 overpass by staying as far to the left out of the tolls as possible, and using 440. For the time being, I would say it is the best way to go for anyone not familiar with the area. If this changes before next Sunday I will let you know, and I will post it on the Cape Liberty 411 thread also. The different toll lanes have signs for Avenue E and Route 440 at the top to ease the confusion.

  7. Ugh! First the Pulaski Skyway closure. Then the Bayonne Bridge closures. And now they're messing with Exit 14A. We knew it was coming though.

Here's the map on the special Exit 14A web site.

http://www.njta14a.com/newtrafficpattern/ Coming down Ave E it looks like Center Street is the first left turn almost directly across from 45th Street. Once you make the left turn onto Center Street it looks like you just stay on it as it curves to the right, changes name to Chosin Few Way, passes 40th Street, and ends at Goldsborough Drive.

I was actually back in that area in a cab in Jan after we arrived in the snowstorm. The taxi dropped one person off as the 45th St Light rail station before heading off to Journal Square. Didn't seem too complicated.

Here's why the street is Chosin Few Way - it's not misspelled http://www.hudsonreporter.com/view/full_story/2408670/article-Getting-his-due-Czarnecki-honored-by-Marine-Corps-League?instance=more_page

Hi, Carol. The construction has now entered the next phase. When you get off at 14A, you should stay as far to the left as possible. They have changed the direction of the overpass there so it accesses 440 South. You can also use the Avenue E lane, but for anyone not knowing the exact configuration, it can be a bit confusing. It is a bit confusing even for those of us who use the exit everyday. The toll lanes actually have signs above them for the different roads. Either way works for the time being, but the changes on the configuration happen pretty quickly now. I will keep everyone advised.

  8. Friends, DW, and I take the repo home from San Juan every year, and I agree the aft aquas are great cabins. One caveat, however. We had 1130 this last April, and I can tell you the last day home from Bermuda was quite rough, and these aft aquas are not for anyone prone to motion issues. Early in the Bermuda season, this could be an issue. In calm waters, they are the best.

  9. Does anyone know what's happening with Summit in early 2017? On the Celebrity website there aren't any cruises listed between January 7th and April 1st???

Celebrity is in the early stages of chartering the ship to different groups in this time period. We had the January 31st ten nighter booked. Oh well. plenty of time to do something else. The reps were still saying they knew nothing about any charters.

  10. What makes this any different than what they do already, except that they will inform Captain's Club members by e-mail? Some people including myself, took advantage of a nominal fee to upgrade to Aqua for our October 18th Summit repo, all perks in place. All anyone need do is be vigilant on the Celebrity website. Having said all this, the price for aquas subsequently went down below what we had already paid for our Concierge cabin. Obviously, we were not offered a refund or OBC. I would imagine the same scenario would take place with this new program.

  11. The garage was planned for 900 spaces' date=' if I recall correctly.

Do you have any idea if the garage is closed, like the lots, when passengers are not embarking or disembarking? I was wondering if parking in the garage is an option for people on a TA (i.e. park their car in the garage, fly overseas, cruise back to Cape Liberty, get in car, drive home.) :) Rob[/quote']

No it is not available just like the lot.

  12. I have a question, too. How's the garage coming along? There were too many old responses using the search function [emoji5]️. Thank you!

The outside is finished. I cannot see what's going on inside but it can't be far from ready, since the building was all pre-fab. They appear ready to pour the concrete for the area leading into the garage. The weather for the next couple of days may delay that just a bit. I am pretty sure it will be ready for the Anthem on November 4th.

  13. We will be docking at 7:00 am on Sunday, Oct 18 and have a 1:00 pm flight out of EWR, suddenly feeling a little stressed about the timing. Is this enough time to disembark, get to the airport and clear security? Suggestions for transport to EWR?

1 P.M. flight is fine, especially on Sunday. There are vans at about $28 per person that go to EWR. You can also grab a taxi that will cost about $60 with tip. The taxis might be harder to get, as they use them mostly for the more expensive fares. The vans fill pretty quickly for EWR, so you should have no problems.

  14. We are driving to Cape Liberty the morning of our cruise from Parsippany, where we are staying over night. I printed out Carol's directions from 14-A.

I am going to print out directions from Google Maps because I read that gps doesn't work well for this. I have been given two options and not sure which one to pick.

Option one is I-280E with tolls.

Option two is NJ-24E and I-78 Express E

Which do you recommend? We don't mind paying tolls, we just prefer the more simple of the two routes.

    Thank you!

Either works. 24 to 78 is better road. You will still have a turnpike toll.

  15. Hi, I am sailing on the Anthem from Port Liberty in Oct. 2016. I will be driving so I need a safe place to park my car. I have read the other comments on this but did not see any for parking at Newark Airport and taking shuttle/taxi to ship. Does anyone have info on this or any ideas? Thank you.

I would tell anyone to park at Cape Liberty itself. It is $19 a day. There is no reason to leave your car at the airport and take a shuttle. It would probably end up being more expensive.

  16. Can anyone tell me if the bridge (rt440, I believe) to Cape Liberty from exit 14a on the NJ turnpike is or will be closed and what the detour around it will be. Is it hard to navigate? We will be going there on Sept. 24th. Thanks for any info you can give me.

    Gwen :)

There is ongoing construction at exit 14A. You never know day to day what the extent will be, but so far delays have been minimal, and the bridge that takes you to Rt440 has never been closed. (At least not yet). You will see signs directing you to the port at the exit.

  17. Is 35 minutes enough time to change planes in Newark Airport within the United terminal? The schedule provided by United allows for 35 minute layover, but I am hesitant if it really can be done. Thanks

No way, no how. You could be 30 seconds from one gate to the next, or you could be a fifteen or twenty minute walk. There are three distinct arms of terminal C which is United. I am surprised they would even let you schedule this connection.

  18. I don't have any recent updates. Perhaps someone who has been there recently knows something or has pictures. I know they've made amazing progress since June 18 when it was an empty lot.

There is still quite a bit of work to be done. The shell is up but no roadway into the building. It doesn't look like anything inside either. My best guess is it will be ready for the Anthem. The shell itself was all pre-fab, so it went up in a snap.

  19. I've read a lot of posts on this forum and have seen different information. We have a discussion taking place on an upcoming cruise forum about taxi costs from EWR to Port Liberty. What has been your experience in taking a taxi from here to there? What is the average fare, do they add tips and/or tolls, do they take credit cards. Thanks for any info you can provide.

It will cost you $55 or $60 depending on tip. That is what it costs me to get home from EWR.

  20. We are driving from Boston to Cape Liberty on 8/13/115 and heard there is heavy construction going on at exit 14 A. Can any confirm this and if so is there a detour we can use Thanks

The construction is long term. They are expanding the exit. The patterns change day to day, so there is no way to predict what the traffic will be like at 14A. As I have posted on this thread and some others before, the delays at the time of day that most people will be arriving in Bayonne are usually not substantial. This is still the best way to Cape Liberty coming from anywhere in New Jersey.

  21. I will say that this promotion is aimed at people who don't do the math. However, for a short cruise, (7 days or less), you can definitely make the promotion work in your favor. Especially on a four or five day cruise, the Go Better promotion is a steal. You can get the beverage package and $300 OBC for just an extra $150. For Go Best on a five day cruise you would then spend an extra $300 for two people that pay for your gratuities and upgrade to premium beverage. You would then get the unlimited internet basically for free. I would issue one caveat as I have before. Since this is now part of your cruise fare, it may raise your insurance if you take it. On the other hand, on cruises of more than 10 days, the promotion is a losing proposition. The change Celebrity has to make in order to make this new pricing structure work is to give more OBC for longer cruises.
