  1. The upgrade price seems to vary from cruise to cruise. In May and June I paid $30 to upgrade to four devices on each of two 7-day cruises. I did it the first day of each cruise. Others have reported higher prices. The Navigator app is completely different from Internet pricing. You don't need an Internet package to use the Navigator app while aboard, including the links to the New York Times and other external sites. With an Internet package, only one device at a time can use the Internet on your account. So if you purchase an Internet plan at the beginning of your cruise (or prebook it at a 20% discount), only one device (phone, tablet, laptop, etc.) can use that plan simulataneously. When a second device tries to log on to that account the user is promptly to either boot off the first device or, at least at the beginning of the cruise, upgrade the plan to four simultaneous devices. Considering the hundreds of dollars a day we pay for a cabin, an extra $60/week was worth it to us. My wife could stream her news programming on her laptop while I did Important Computer Stuff (TM) on my laptop, read ebooks on my tablet or Kindle, and used my phone for texting and Wi-Fi voice calls. Tell me WE don't know how to relax!
  2. If you plan to purchase an Internet package for the cruise, you might want to use your gift card to prepurchase it. Only the Premium package is available for prepurchase, but you get a 20% discount by doing so.
  3. $7/day, $9/day in Europe That's for the entire cabin.
  4. As you can see from this, all deck 5 verandahs are shallow except the forward cabins and the six facing aft: https://www.cruisedeckplans.com/DP/deckplans/decks.php?ship=Oosterdam
  5. You're right--it isn't easy to find. I did find this one post: Boarded with letter Otherwise, all I found were folks posting the rules and telling each other they needed a letter of recovery. No actual first-hand experience using a letter.
  6. Some pics of that cabin: https://www.cruisedeckplans.com/DP/member/Nieuw-Statendam
  7. Our cabin steward brought replacements as we requested them. They had mild and dark brews.
  8. We paid $30 for the 4-device upgrade for the entire 7-day cruise.
  9. We stayed in 6164 on the Eurodam's sister ship the Neuw Amsterdam on an Alaska cruise last month. We have stayed in one other Neptune Suite and the aft-wraps are somewhat smaller than the "regular" Neptune Suites. It is, of course, a long hike to the Neptune Lounge but we seldom used it even when it was close by. Sitting in a windowless room with a TV going doesn't appeal to us, although the concierges in the NL are wonderful. They do everything from fixing billing problems to making reservations for you, without standing in long lines or sitting on Hold for 20 minutes. The balcony more than makes up for the slightly smaller cabin. While underway, the portion of the balcony on the port side of the ship was quite windy, but the large aft-facing portion was calm. I got quite a sunburn sitting there, and this was in Alaska in June. We noticed no unusual ship movement back there, but one night there was vibration all night. It is very convenient for getting to the Lido buffet, but a ships-length away from the main dining room. I posted quite a few cabin pictures on cruisedeckplans.com. Hope that helps.
  10. The only thing I can add to Kazu's response is that on recent cruises, when a second device tries to log on the choice has been to kick off the first user OR purchase a four-device upgrade, which was $30 on our most recent 7-day cruise.
  11. There is really no need to do so. We always select "any time dining" and when we get to the dining room we ask for a table for two. On three cruises this year there has not been a wait for a table. If you find a waiter you like, simply request one of his tables for two each night. On previous cruises, when ships' occupancy was higher, we sometimes had to wait a few minutes for a table for two. Hope that helps.
  12. We were in an aft wrap on the Nieuw Amsterdam last month, and probably 80% of the aft-facing part was covered.
  13. On cruises this year, with the Premium package, when a second user tried to log on the the account they were given the choice of booting off the first user or paying extra to bump up to a four-user package. On two seven-day cruises the upgrade cost $30 (for the entire cruise). I think it was $70 when we were on a 14-day cruise, but I don't see a record of it on my statement from that cruise.
  14. The Internet package is discounted 20% if you purchase it online before the cruise. Only the "Premium" Internet package is offered pre-cruise.
  15. In my experience, it varies all over the place, but we have always been able to use email, surf the web, and download books. Last cruise (Alaska), my wife was streaming the news throughout the cruise with very little problem. Sitting in port in Whittier, the download speed tested at over 5 Mbps but sometimes at sea it was down to a few hundred kbps. In no case was it anything like home broadband.
  16. That's exactly why I asked if they could be applied to OBC online while aboard. So far, no one seems to have experience doing that.
  17. You simply have to sign up for their "rewards" program for the offer to appear. It doesn't generate any spam or junk mail. The "points" aren't good for anything that I use, so I ignore them. You do have to join AARP (something like $16/year), but they make it easy to opt out of all their junk mail.
  18. AARP still has them, but unlike HAL they are not available in denominations greater than $500, and you can buy only five each calendar month. OTOH, it's a straight 10% discount: $450 for a $500 card, no "bonus card" with an expiration date involved as HAL does.
  19. I used HAL gift cards (purchased at a 10% discount from AARP) to make final payment, purchase an excursion, and purchase some onboard credit for our next cruise, in October. Assuming that AARP is still selling them at a discount in October, is there any reason I can't buy and use them online while aboard, paying down our account as it grows?
  20. I don't know if your Verizon plan will work at sea. I know that AT&T offers a plan that utilizes the Cellular At Sea service. AT&T plan. If you want to do only email and texts, and if your phone supports "Wi-Fi Calling", you could probably use the cheapest onboard Wi-Fi plan for email, texts, and voice. I know those all work with the Premium onboard plan. Caution: On one cruise this year Wi-Fi calling didn't work, but it did on two others. For safety, I use a VPN when using public Wi-Fi networks. Again, on the cruise on which Wi-Fi calling didn't work, neither did my VPN.
  21. We were in an aft-wrap on the NA earlier this month. In addition to the good answers you have already received, I would add that the rear-facing portion of the balcony was not at all windy when we were underway although the side-facing portion was. I actually got a bit of a sunburn sitting out there on this Alaska cruise. Aside from getting help from the Neptune Lounge conceirge, we didn't have much use for the lounge. No windows, a TV playing, not an environment we enjoy. This was only the second Neptune Suite we have had, and we are unlikely to have another any time soon. We got this one because we received a screaming good upsell offer a couple weeks before the cruise.
  22. The resurrection of this old thread prompted me to look at options for our October Hawaii cruise coming up on the Koningsdam. We have a regular verandah (VB) booked on the fourth deck, aft (not aft-facing). I chose it because of the size of the balconies in that part of the fourth deck. No other cabins on the ship seem to have balconies that deep, and there are no Vista Suites in that area. I guess we won't take an upsell to a Vista on this one, if one is offered.
  23. Select the trip, click on "Manage Trip". When you get the message that the booking is in the past, etc., click on the three dots and click "Cancel trip". It will ask you to confirm, then the trip will be gone.
