  1. I have booked cabins near empty spaces that aren't labeled and it's been disappointing. The spaces are usually work rooms of some kind, and can be active 24-7, with doors slamming and the crew shouting at one another, etc..It's important to have a clear picture of the location of the cabin, and it's easy enough to find a deck plan online that will provide that kind of imformation.
  2. BTW, it's called 'gaming' these days. A 'gamble' would be more like driving after having a few drinks.
  3. Haven't been to the casino in Nassau Baha Mar Resort for years. I'm going in mid Novermber. Does anyone know the cost of a taxi ride? Is there a shuttle at the cruise terminal, like the one that takes people to Atlantis? Thanks for any information.
  4. I would go with a spirit of adventure, and roll with the punches. How exciting to a be on new ship, while everything is still sparkly! Hope you have a lot of fun, whatever you decide.
  5. Love Leif Erkison and all the vikings. I took the cruise up to Iceland last year and my imagination ran wild with thoughts of small ships in these waters so long ago. It was my favorite cruise so far.
  6. I feel your pain. There are people in all walks of life who find ways to cheat, break rules, and cut lines. It's not right, and it's frustrating. They are everywhere. I don't let them spoil my day. You can't control the actions of others; you can only control your own reaction to their bad hehavior. I find counting to ten is usually helpful.
  7. I remember standing outside in the glaring sun waiting for the last of the 'drifters' to waddle in so we could get the muster started. Thank heavens those days are gone.
  8. I have always carried the one-time-use paper heating pads (THERMA CARE) that are hot for about 16 hours. I always thought the electric heating pads were not allowed because they are a fire hazard. I would love to be able to take along my electric one instead.
  9. Year ago we had to stand outside, in the sun, and wait for every last passenger to show up before they would begin. Then they moved it to the indoor venues, and now it's better than ever with the new check in being so easy and quick.
  10. I have been called "entitled" and a "snob" because I drop off my luggage. I am allowed to do so, says Carnival, but I suppose I should not do so anymore, as it offends those who don't sail enough to receive the same perks that are offered to me. I won't go to the front of the lines anymore either; that may annoy someone who doesn't have any perks. I may even write to Carnival and ask them to remove all of the perks of the loyalty program because it annoys people who haven't yet reached that status.
  11. The last post on that site was posted ten years ago. I doubt the taxi fare is the same no as it was then. Thanks for the thought though!
  12. Can anyone tell me the best way to get from the Nassau port to the Baha Mar? Is there a shuttle? A taxi? Thanks for your help.
  13. Oh, there are bad cabins, believe me. I have been assigned some really bad cabins. $152.00 is a fair price. Some casino cruises end up being free, after they give you cash to play with. I have done a lot of those and have no complaints.
  14. I wouldn't trust anything that offers a cruise for $50.00. That may be a base price on a very short cruise, but even so, there are many 'hidden' charges like taxes, port fees, etc..The norm is this: the better the cabin, the higer the price. Can't even imagine what a $50.00 cabin may be, or where it may be. Some cabins are in better locations than others. Just beware, if something sounds too good to be true, it usually is.
  15. Every night is Halloween on Carnival ships. That's how it appears to be anyhow. I've seen it all. Thong bikinis to formal sequin gowns, every day and night of the year. There's no accounting for taste (or the lack of it). It's named 'Carnival', after all.
  16. There's nothing to see or do in Greenland. I don't know why we stopped there. You didn't miss anything. Iceland is the place to go. It's a great place to visit.
  17. Having been cruising for decades, I have leaned many things, the most important being FOLLOW THE RULES, regarding everything. Period. Doing so will lower your odds of getting into some kind of trouble. If it's recommended that you buy insurance, buy it. If you can't afford it, stay home until you can.
  18. If Carnival rules state I can drop off my luggage, I'm going to do so, regardless of any looks from the crew. They don't make the rules. They just have to comply with them, like I do.
  19. Dragged husband to his first 'tea' and sorry I did. We were seated next to a table of four tank-topped men. Never saw so much underarm hair, and chest hair peeking out in any dining venue. A dress code of some kind may exist, but HAL being HAL, it's never enforced. We got up and left. If I wanted to see hairy men I would have gone on Carnival.
  20. Not too long ago I did an excursion that involved a long bus ride just to boad the excursion. It would be nice if I was informed of that fact BEFORE the booking. Is there somewhere I don't know about that tells how long the actual time it takes to get from the pier to the place of boarding?
  21. I understand your concern and it's a reasonable one. I hope you're a good sport and have enjoyed the snarky comments. I have my own concerns about things that I eat and drink and I am often criticized for it. Most people will eat and drink anything without a thought, especially if it's free.
  22. Just sayin', some folks oppose the door decorations. They feel the halls start looking ghetto, and sometimes, they are correct. The ship has policy about sticking things on the cabin door, so you may want to check on the official rules before you do it. Now what you may put in your own cabin is less regulated, but the stewards may take issue if it prevents them from their cleaning duties. I'm always mindful that not everybody celebrates the same holidays.
  23. Sorry you are unhappy with Carnival's treatment of you. Can't say I blame you. I certainly expect extra perks and nice come-back offers when I am spending big in the casino. I have learned (over many years) to enjoy my time playing, and never spend more than I can afford to lose. I always introduce myself to the Casino Host as soon as possible; some will give you perks, but you can't count on it. Hope you find some reasonable compensation for your loyalty. Good luck and have fun!
  24. Since I am presently posting on the Holland America site, I assumed it would go without saying which line I was referring to. Just goes to show that I shouldn't assume things. Thanks for the reply. I'll be more clear the nest time.
  25. It is my understanding that hand-paid 'tips' are added to the pot and divided up and doled out SHIPWIDE once a year. I'm not sure the recipient actually keeps the cash for himself/herself. If anyone has seen the written rules regarding this, I would be interested in seeing the fine print. There must be protocol somewhere, available for public information.
