  1. IDIO’M’..“To miss the boat”....

Fail to take advantage of an opportunity, as in Jean missed the boat on that club membership. This expression, which alludes to not being in time to catch a boat, has been applied more widely since the 1920s. 2. Fail to understand something, as in I'm afraid our legislator missed the boat on that amendment to the bill.

  2. It’s been a few years since I actually had a martini off the menu. It’s much more fun to tell the bartenders what you like whether Gin or Vodka based and see what they come up with. That’s the joy of a drinks package...if you don’t like it...who cares?

  3. Very often perks that are offered by the TA’s does not show up on paperwork. I suggest calling your TA or Celebrity and get any all perks emailed to you so that you have written documentation. Take this you on your cruise.

  4. No. You could have if you booked with a US TA. (Some US TA’s charge a change fee though). You have to look at the small print but if you cancel your booking you will likely lose your deposit. Sometimes it’s financially beneficial to do this. You need to call and find out and do the numbers.

  5. We definitely don’t do it for the prizes! Last year on an Indy TA four of us won the progressive trivia against 480 other players over 12 games. I thought maybe we’d win a T-shirt or something for the honour but we actually graciously received a couple of pens, zipper pulls, water bottles and one bottle of paint remover, AKA wine for us to share. In the cruise directors’ defense, he did say that usually the prizes were a little more substantial but the ship had run out of stuff to give away. It was really a lot of fun but at times it felt like a bit of a blood sport!

  6. The downside of a Florida 7 day B2B is that a ship can’t get far enough south to do anything but the run of the mill eastern St Thomas, St Maarten and Nassau or a western doing Jamaica, Labadee and Cozumel.

The somewhat more exotic Caribbean locations such as Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao are too far south and are thus relatively inaccessible for a 7 day Cruise.

The Equinox was doing alternating 10 and 11 day itineraries which was good and the now defunct 14 day Eclipse itinerary was my personal favourite.

  7. well, I don't know. If it's a little baby and only a pee diaper, it takes 30 seconds to change the kiddo, so doing it in a much nastier bathroom is probably something I'd skip.

The peed on diaper is not going to get you sick with the flu.

Wow. I suppose you believe in the 30 second, dropping food on the floor rule too. Where do you think that diaper has been? Pee or poop...same thing. Completely unsanitary.

  8. Excuse me....may I hijack this thread for a moment with my own question?

We are going on a cruise next month where our main currency will be Euros, with some GBP and some USD for the ship. We are a bit light in USD but the ship is the only place we will need them, so I don't know if we need to get more. I think it's probably okay to do extra tipping with Euros (because cash is cash, right?) but is there any reason why this would cause undue hardship to any crew member that receives Euros instead of dollars?

    Thanks for letting me interrupt.

The crew appreciates grats in any currency.
