  1. My aunt and uncle who used to live in Australia years ago often do part of the world sector to have short catch up with friends over there. they take on boxes of wine (silver pillow's in OZ) they say on the last cruise they did they flew to Sydney had 4 days on land, picked up four 4 litre boxes and nothing was said at embarkation they have only cruised with Cunard and P & O so cannot have been any other line.

We don't have any issues when cruising the Caribbean.

  2. We've been on Azura, Ventura and Britannia and never witnessed that kind of behaviour in fact the exact opposite people are always happy to share their experience of how to work the washers and driers and often happy to take your washing out and put in the drier if you are not there. In December when we were on Azura our balcony room was just across from the launderette so I would bob in put int he washer and go back 45 minutes later.

One afternoon had to go a search out my OH as he was missing for 30 minutes just ironing his shirt 45, only to be stood talking football with a fellow shirt ironer.

So don't listen to the silly stories or should I say listen to the stories but take them with a pinch of salt.

  3. Don't always believe what people say at the dining table people love to wind others up, we have only ever been given upgrades by a couple of grades and never a different type of cabin i.e. inside to balcony I do believe P & O manage this better than people believe.

I can tell a story that I have told many times over the years as a people manager at pay review time. I worked with a guy many years ago who always used to discuss what his salary was along with a lot of other people in the team it was only when I was promoted and became his manager that I became aware of his salary which had not been what he said it was and less than mine!! we wonder why other people were dissatisfied with their salary!! the moral of the story don't discuss salary.

2015 on Britannia we sat with a couple who told a different story about upgrades than they did on the previous time we dined with them and I believe neither to be the truth and probably had a similar conversation at each meal time - just not intelligent enough to think about the audience.

It's a bit like book pay and don't look at the prices again.

  4. How amazing and how interesting, I do hope the lady is okay and her family can join her on land.

This is why it is essential you ensure you have the correct insurance cover. What a fantastic team exercise collaboration at it's best.

  5. We did the pre-Xmas cruise on her in 2015 and experienced similar behaviour that was without the kids and a constant issue with sunbeds so avoided her this year and went on the Azura. Sunbed issue not a problem and no behaviour issues just a captain who was in a race to get to New Orleans so he could retire!!

I agree for people who love the old traditional P & O Britannia in the school holidays is not the best choice of ships and term time choose your cruise carefully.

  6. We remove half the auto tips and tip individuals with the rest sometimes we spend more and some times less we like to tip the people who are hidden behind the scenes and don't often get thank you's like the guys who clean the tables in the buffet, a couple of special waiters in the freedom dining restaurants, the guys hosing down the decks etc and how rewarding when then smile and are shocked at the recognition.

As said you will read a lot I say go with what you want to do and what you feel is right.

  7. Hi

If it were me I would leave my hand luggage on board and take a taxi to explore and then get back on ship for a bite to eat before the coach come to pick you up for the airport. My reason for this is if there's a delay you can stay on board in comfort rather than sitting outside the airport because they wont let you through because there is not room due to delays. They don't take you off ship until they are sure the flight is going happen.

Up to you but the airport is not the best nothing to do other than sit around if you can get a seat.

  8. We occasionally ask for a table for 2 when we don't really feel like having a conversation, other times we don't state a preference just let the waiter guide us and in all those times only once sat with people who made the dinner a little tiring.

It wasn't the eating habits it was the conversation, from strong political views which took the conversation to nearing on confrontation, after politics we moved to religion again confrontational.

We just politely agreed and nodded when appeared to be appropriate and survived, it wasn't too bad just not enjoyable but only one night of the cruise. Funnily enough we met other people who dined with the same couple and they said the same thing, we have see the couple a few times on other cruises - it's just who they are and we accept that.

  9. We prefer TC flights to TOM flights, the seat config. is better, the food is better and so are the staff.

But as has been said the flight is not the holiday so I will just grin and bare it on the 9th December when we fly out to the Azura.

  10. Hi

A bit of help please, we dock early morning on the 23.12.16 in New Orleans and are on a 1420 flight home. If we get up early and off ship as soon as we can can you suggest what to do to see the best of new Orleans we can't just look at the skyline from the ship and be content with that.

I enquired with P & O to see if they did a trip like the farewell to Barbados where they do a coach trip to points of the island and then take you to the airport.

Thanks you in advance for any help, it's just 2 of us and OH cannot do too much walking

    Susan

  11. Thank you for the info. one flower is the same as all other cabin we have been in, I hope we have the bathrobes that would be nice, so would the binoculars as our's are a bit weak, I never say no to champagne, OH is a chocoholic so in all it's looking good, especially as it was only £20 pp more than a regular balcony.

We have cruised the Caribbean many times starting in an inside cabin until we upgraded to a balcony and then there is no going back, been on Ventura Azura and Britannia not a fan of Brittania.

    Cannot wait.

  12. Hello everyone

What additional benefits do we get with a deluxe cabin? we have just booked on the 9.12.16 Azura Caribbean cruise for 14 nights, it's looking like we will be the only ones getting off on the 23rd as everyone else appears to be staying on for the 28 nighter.

  13. Just checked my blog and the last TOM flight we went on we had:

a choice of chicken pasta or beef curry but they had no curry left!!

started was a small bowl of melon and water melon

    pasta

    small roll with butter

    cheese and tuc biscuits

before landing a pannini thing could not describe what was in it but it said it was cheese, a plastic cup of water

both meal had a choice of tea or coffee.

usual in-flight food as said, the TC food was much better my blog just says better than most so think I only recorded the TOM flight because it's wasn't impressive.

Doesn't really bother me as the food on ship is what I am looking forward to.

  14. I always use hard suitcases and have done for about 10 years before that had a good few accidents with wet bags and burst bags not worth the hassle for a few KG more luggage.

Having said that have known one of our hard cases to split but only slightly and the contents weren't affected and M & S replaced without question it was 3 years old.
