  1. It may be that we only booked it kinda last minute so all the single cabins were long gone. Normally we book our cruises well in advance and she doesn't have a problem getting a cabin. I know they limit the number of cabins they will sell to single travellers on every cruise. The three of us have 2 more Princess cruises booked for next year and our friend had no problem booking a cabin just for herself on them.
  2. My husband and I are going to upgrade to plus package once onboard our December cruise. Our friend is coming with us. As Princess were not accepting solo bookings she booked and paid for a balcony cabin for herself and her adult daughter. Her daughter will not actually be going on the cruise and will just not turn up on the day. Will our friend be able to upgrade to plus package as a solo traveller or will they insist she pays for both people to upgrade even though her daughter is not actually on board?
  3. Hubby and I are lucky. We cruise 4 -6 times a year from Sydney. Don't really mind where the cruise is going, just love the whole cruise experience. During winter we cruise with P&O or Carnival, but cruise RCI, Princess and Celebrity when they are here. Get friends to drive us to train station, about 5 minutes away, train takes an hour to get to Circular Quay, We are usually onboard around 11.30. At end of cruise, we are back in our house by 9.30am. I guess the ease and convenience is why we are cruiseaholics.
  4. I know we get 8 miniature spirits and a number of cans of soft drinks. Does anyone know if you can swap your cans of soft drinks for cans of ginger ale?
  5. . She feels like taking your advice and doing this .Then her daughter will no show. Any advice for her on how to do this successfully? We have no experience in this and she is understandably a bit nervous. For example, is it OK for her to board without her daughter? Will they ask her where her travelling companion is? If and when she is able to get on board should she then go to Guest Services and say her daughter has taken ill and won't be boarding? She feels guilty about this but the ship has loads of cabins available in all categories yet none allowed for solo travellers .
  6. My daughter and I are going on a Crown Princess cruise in December. A widowed friend wishes to come too but all single bookings are showing as sold out, even though there are heaps of cabins still available for couples in all categories. I suggested she ring Princess today which she did. A lovely young man was very helpful and suggested she pay $200 deposit to be placed on the waitlist for an obstructed ocean view cabin category which will be refunded to her if they are unable to allocate her a cabin. She has happily done that. What do you think her chances are of being successful in getting a cabin and being able to join us on the cruise? I don't want her to get her hopes up if the chance is very remote.
  7. I have booked and paid for a cruise in December for myself and my adult daughter. She has chronic crohn's disease and sometimes this flares up unexpectedly and she has to go into hospital for a few days. I really hope this doesn't happen but if it does flare up just as we're about to cruise what will happen to our booking? Will Princess let me cruise solo in our twin cabin without charging me any more money? I paid for us both and understand I can't claim on travel insurance as it is a pre existing condition and am fine with that but hate the thought of having to pay extra money. My daughter would be happy for me to still go on the cruise without her as she has lots of family and friends for support and I have cruised alone a few times before and enjoyed it,
  8. Congratulations on your wedding anniversary. What a beautiful way to celebrate it! We have been married for 52 years. This cruise will be our 50th cruise as we started cruising in 2009. We wanted to make it extra special so we are celebrating by shouting our family a free cruise so we can all be together to celebrate this milestone. None of them have cruised before so I'm hoping they enjoy the experience as much as we do. There will be 10 of us, Davy and I, our 2 sons and daughter-in-laws, and 4 grandchildren, 3 grandsons, 12, 11 and 7 years old and our 8 year old granddaughter. I am so excited and happy about this. Only 11 weeks to go!
  9. This topic brings me so much joy! Hubby and I just came home from a cruise on Tuesday, We sail again 21st - 28th November on RCI and after catching up with this topic again it inspired me to book a Princess cruise sailing 3rd December. Yes, only 5 days gap between cruises. We have already booked 4 cruises for next year and will have done 6 this year. Maybe I should stop reading this topic as it keeps reminding me of how much we really love cruising and definitely encourages me to be a cruiseaholic! LOL
  10. Does anyone know if you can perhaps phone in the morning and book a table for that evening for Da Vinci restaurant or do they definitely NOT accept bookings and only allow walking? Having fears of long queues !!
  11. My husband and I are sailing on Crown Princess in December. Seems different setup to Majestic where we could choose to book online pre cruise to dine in any of the free restaurants each evening Da Vinci - looks like can't prebook it so just have to rock up and join the queue any night you want to dine there. I imagine the lines will be huge around 7pm. Is that correct? Botticelli - can book now online with a variety of times to choose from so may pre book a few nights there . Michelangelo - can choose to dine there at 5pm or 7.20 but once booked are locked in for the entire cruise., I would love to hear from anyone with advice of which dining venue option is best. Thanks heaps .
  12. Sailing on Adventure on 25th August for 9 nights to Cairns. It will be interesting to talk to our cabin steward and dining room staff to see if they have been told about what, if any, impact the merger on 1st March next year will have on them. Also booked on Adventure for June and August next year so will be interesting to see if there are any changes after the merger. Hopefully you will be able to bring 2 bottles of wine onboard after 1st March and our Carnival platinum status will be acknowledged on Adventure.
  13. The best free upgrade we ever got was on a 13 night NZ cruise on Ovation of the Seas in 2018. Booked a guaranteed balcony cabin and got upgraded to a suite. Might have been a mistake as they allocated us the room number about 3 months prior to sail date and there were still heaps of cabins still for sale. Ah, the good old days!
  14. The cruise is sold out again so enough people must have booked last minute as the cabins became available due to cancellations. Seems we will still be sailing at close to full capacity despite the inferior itinerary. There are obviously lots of people out there like my hubby and I who just enjoy the whole cruise experience. Only 5 sleeps to go!
  15. That's a fair point. I'll keep an eye online to see if this cruise comes back up for sale as it has been sold out for weeks.
