  1. Traveling with children is much different than traveling with another adult. The flight to Italy, arriving at the big boat may be all you can do with young kids. I understand the expense but I have 3 kids. My well behaved /genius son is 15 years old and there is no way we could take him sightseeing after a flight and arriving in foreign city. I'd get him some lunch and a place to sit down with his toys/ electronic gadgets. I can't image taking a 3 & 8 year old without my own stroller let alone rushing around on a time schedule. When will they eat, nap, play? Anyway, I say skip the sight seeing and enjoy the cruise without trying to do it all.

Venice will be there for years to come.

  2. Okay, I booked two cabins (inside guarantee) on the Sky over Christmas for the 5 of us. I can pay cash and still have a few dollars to spend on the trip. Airfare from the West Coast is not cheap during the holidays but I can make it happen.

I'm worried cause some of the reviews of the Sky aren't that great and there is very little discussion in the general forum.

What's up? Is it really that bad? I don't mind a smaller ship, in fact I prefer fewer passengers. Food is subjective. As long I don't have to cook it then it's all good.

    Questions:

    How's the Sky spa?

    How's the Sky teen club?

How crowded is the Sky? Can I get a chair on deck in the sun?

    Recent experiences?

  3. 1. I don't know.

2: Yes a coffee is available in the buffet.

    3. Yes, you can just walk around in port. No you don't have to book an excursion.

    4. Yes, you can bring your own cup but putting a used cup up to the faucet can spread your germs to the faucet and then onto others. So use a fresh cup and pour into your cup.

    5. I don't think so.

6.I dont' know what time the bar opens.

    7. I don't know.

    8. Yes, some one on board will speak french.

  4. When the person in front of you in guest services is throwing a fit, try to catch the guest services/ customer service person's eye and give them the I feel so sorry for you - I can't believe they're acting like that look.

When it's your turn explain your situation almost apologetically giving your I'm so sorry to bother you while your working look... and you'll get whatever you want.:p

The words "please", "thank you", "it's no hurry" and "I appreciate you" also help.

  5. Nice....I would love to attend this show. I prefer a smaller venue and wouldn't mind to pay the cover charge for a nice show. 10:30 p.m. is a little late for a start time for me unless the next day was day at sea and I could sleep in.

Can't wait till I get enough pennies together to cruise on the Summit again.

  6. Also talk to other passengers once you get on board. I am a chronic over packer and if I met someone (about my size) who'd lost their luggage I could have given them a dress or two to wear. I had stuff I didn't even wear on the trip.

That's just me. I don't know if I would ask to borrow clothes straight out but tell your story and someone like me might offer something.

  7. It will be okay.

Hubby and I have left our kids over the years for vacations without them. I think you have to in order to nurture your marriage and relationship. We've been married 23 years.

Anyway, last December, we left them (2 teenagers and 1 young adult) the day after Christmas with grandparents to go on a New Years eve cruise. I felt kinda guilty but we had a heck of a year and needed alone time.

This year we will take the entire family.

  8. It would help if DH would give me some input other than...."whatever makes you happy" and "I have no way to decide what I'd like or not like on a cruise".

He is giving you input. He said pick a cruise that makes you happy.

He'll be happy if you're happy. Just be sure to tell him and show him how happy you are that he is with you on the 35th anniversary cruise.

That being said be sure to take very good care to protect his skin during the cruise with regular rub downs with the lubricant of your choice (sunscreen, baby oil, almond oil) and you won't have any problems with him on whatever cruise you choose.

  9. I don't know what Mr Sanchos is but ....maybe... ahem you all should find something non food related to do on vacation to keep your wife healthy. Anything with an "all you can eat" option should no longer be in either of your radar.

Okay that being said...I'mma stay out of you all business.

    PEACE!

  10. Using the link I posted (Royal Caribbean Jobs Board). Which of those positions are considered Officers? Even low ranked.

How about the position that say Deck - 2nd Officer

or the one that says Guest Services Officer?

None of the others are Officers just managers.

  11. Hubby likes personalized service. He wants the crew to know him and make him feel special so we have to stay with the smaller ships (2000-3000 guests). At some point when I no longer have teenager kids I will try out the luxury lines such as crystal or Oceania or seabourn or azamara. In the past couple of years we've sailed on Carnival, Norwegian NCL and Celebrity. I'm not really considering RCCL cause their ships are so huge.

It could have been the size of the ship that affected my perception of the cruise but hubby and I went on the NCL EPIC during a holiday week and hated it. It was so crowded and seemed impersonal although the female maitre d got us a table by the window every night.

On a previous cruise on Carnival (2011) during Thanksgiving week the ship was also crowded but hubby and I sailed with the kids and had a great times.

Hubby and I sailed on Celebrity last new years eve week alone and we enjoyed the Celebrity Summit very much.

We are taking the family this New Years week and I've chosen Carnival Valor because there are many things for the kids to do , I like the itinerary and the ship is not too huge.
  12. Sigh!

I cancelled the first partial reservation and tried again online. It dumped the second cabin again but it gave me a message this time telling me that it could only make one reservation so I called Carnival again and the reservation agent made the reservation for the second cabin.

Two reservation numbers but supposedly they are linked for dinner  as if the teenagers want to eat dinner with us.

The reservation agent was very polite and helpful.

    Thanks for your feedback.
