1. So I've cruised Royal and Princess, but sans children. We preferred Royal, especially for kids, but while planning a family cruise I have some concerns with how they might be split.

If we cruise this Spring short notice, we'll have 4--ages 8,12,14, and 14. Then if we wait until October, everyone will be a year older.

I'd like the youngest to be with someone else, but I'd also like the twins to NOT be in a 15-17 do anything club. How strict is Royal on groups/ages when it comes to siblings? Can anyone advise? Would we be better going with another line entirely (Carnival, Norwegian)?

    Thanks in advance!!!

Actually assuming by this "spring" you mean April/May, if you wait until October of 2016 the children will be 6-7 months older not "a year older"......

  2. Yes she has cruise many times. We started taking them when she was about 8. Shortly after we started cruising. Up until 2007 they didn't give kids c&a numbers so that is why she never had one. Once she turned 18 I called for it thinking I was doing it right. I understand now that the program changed after speaking to c&a. The reason I was asking for info on who to contact was due to the rudeness at the desk and to ask for special consideration ( but guessing I will get no where with that but it can't hurt to ask nicely).

Not sure its true that there's really an age limit. I was able to sign up our boy's each with their own C&A numbers after their first cruise and they were definitely below the age of 18.......

No different then frequent flyer cards/numbers with the airlines. Both of my boys have had their own card/number since they first flew (5-6 years old).

  3. I have the email of the ships dining people but would like to copy Miami so the ship doesn't just brush our concerns under the rug.

Our service in the MDR on the Alure Jan 3rd was just awful! Just a couple examples, no coffee offered with dessert one night, two people served their main dish at our table of 8 then the waiter served another table of 6 before returning with meals to the rest of our table , however they were all on her cart as we all ordered at the same time, bread only offered once every night, drinks came one night and one person at the table was given all of the sea passes & drinks to pass out  These are just a few of the things we experienced. Being Diamond + I have been on quite a few cruises and have NEVER experienced such terrible service. I was genuinely embarrassed as I was the leader of our group and always push Royal over other lines. Not a good first impression of Royal for a few to say the least.

    TIA

I would have had this nipped in the bud the first night with a simple "excuse myself from the table" trip to the dinning room manager stand. I would have not tolerated it on night one when this was first experienced and trust me when I say there would be no reason to involve corporate headquarters in Miami after the fact.

  4. The whole idea of a chef's table is a food-wine paring, so anyone under 21 is not going to get the full experience. While it's great that your nephew is interested in the experience, I would wait until they were 21 to invite someone to the chef's table.

I agree, Chef's Table really isn't for a minor, per se.

  5. It is very quick and efficient to disembark the Oasis.

You will be in Crown Point, not in Havensight.

There will be large open-air trucks with benches (the local taxis for the cruise ships) waiting at the dock.

I suggest that you meet in the Champagne Bar or Boleros. They will both be empty in the morning and have plenty of seats for those who arrive early at the meeting point.

Merion Mom: I thought Oasis docks at Charlotte Amalie while in St. Thomas? What's this Crown Point you speak of? I know my 10/1/2016 Oasis cruise ports at Charlotte Amalie for sure.

  6. I know that I said that there won't be much commentary, but I'm going to start off by giving a little information about our cruise. This was our first cruise on an Oasis Class ship. We flew down to Fort Lauderdale from Philly on May 22nd and stayed at the W Fort Lauderdale Hotel. We like to get to the departure port at least one day prior to the cruise so we can get into vacation mode.

Cabin: This was also our first cruise in a suite. We stayed in Grand Suite 12660. We originally had cabin 8254, but thanks to Cruise Critic, I knew that the Oasis Class ships always dock on the starboard side, so when I saw 12660 open up, I jumped at the chance. Also, we ended up loving the suite perks. We were a little leery at first if they were worth the money, but in the end, we were very satisfied.

Sorry, no pictures of the balcony or the bathroom. I will have pictures from the balcony though!

Next up: Fort Lauderdale and Miscellaneous Ship Pictures!

Question for you. I see that you moved from the 8th deck up to the 12th to get into GS 12660. We will be in 12660 in October 2016. I'm curious because I see many posting about how the GS on the 8th floor is "better" given their proxcimity to the Central Park and other "location" benefits to certian areas of the ship (Boardwalk, main levels etc). How was it being on the 12th and if you had to do it all over again would you have kept the original GS on the 8th floor?

  7.
Have taken a flight around that time, FLL to Detroit, for years. Delta has changed times on me several times. They have always honored luggage valet, even at 11:20 a.m. RC told me that it is the airline that accepts luggage valet customers so I don't think you will have a problem.
Thanks, I'm hoping that's the case too. I can't see them having a problem with 6 minutes prior to the announced 11:30am flight "cut off".

I called Delta and they would not honor a free flight change for a later departure. They would only honor a chane in departure within a 90 minute window of time and that won't work for us (without several stops getting home very late).
  8. Delta Airlines just sent me an email message that it “automatically” made a route change and pushed up our flight departure from 11:45am to 11:24am when departing out of Ft. Lauderdale for home. I specifically booked my initial flight after 11:30am to take advantage of the luggage valet service (move our bags to the airport). Do you think RCCL will still honor the services for my 11:24am departure?
  9. What happened to the ChefMakers Cooking Academy? Other cruise lines have a robust culinary class offering with a true "hands on" course (maybe an hour to up to three). I'm not talking about a galley tour or a quick demonstration on how to make an omelet.

I understand the ChefMakers Cooking Academy was offering that could be booked for FOS class ships? Has it been discontinued? Would this be something that could be offered fleet wide or even on RCCLs larger class vessels (Oasis)? Are there any other onboard offerings to actually interact with the ship chef's and staff for "real" culinary class offerings? I'm not talking about decorating a cupcake; I'm talking about a literal cooking class/demonstration offering onboard the ship on a "sea day".

  10. We will be sailing on Adventure Of The Seas next month and have made reservations for Giovanni's Table one night for the 1st time.

I am a lasagna lover and I see that it is only on the lunch menu but I have read on hear that if you order it at dinner they will make you an order. Does anyone know if this is made fresh or will it some that was left over from lunch??

As much as a Lasagna love that I am, sometimes I have to step out of the box and try something new. For those of you that have eaten at Giovanni's, what are the must haves in your honest opinion for:

    Appetizer

    Pasta

    Entrée

    Desert

Being Italian, a cook and general maker of lasagna I can assure you its not "cooked to order". You will likely be eating a slice (generally a 3 1/2 by 5 inch) from the rather large tray of prepared lasagana that they make daily. I would gather its fresh made daily for the lunch menu and refridgerated/stored for use later as needed. Please don't expect that they will make it fresh for you upon ordering.

  11. I pulled up the brochure on Royal's website regarding the Royal Suite Class to send to a family member when I noticed that there is only 1-day complimentary access to the thermal spa for Sky class guests. I could have sworn that the "1-day" was not previously mentioned in their advertising material. Is this new or was it mentioned before? Here is the link to the brochure that I'm referring to:

Yes this does appear to be a change that has reciently been done. I too recall in in inital roll out promotional materials no specific reference to "1-day" complimentary access for Sky Suite level guests.
