  1. Just borrowed the ebook from our library. Anxious to read it. Thanks everyone for the pictures of today's port. One for the bucket list. I live in a city named after Sir Isaac Brock. If you like blueberries......nothing like wild blueberries from Northern Ontario. Yummy
  2. When we visited Corner Brook, at the Legion in Sandi's pictures, you could be 'screeched in". A fun Newfie ceremony. It's just up the street from the city hall. There was also a small tour train to tour around the city. It was $2 in 2019.
  3. No helmet needed. It isn't a scary ride. They have full control over the sled, and how fast it goes. Simply a ride, but very unique and fun. The toboggans are taken back up on a flat bed. The cable car is interesting too. Goes over a neighbourhood. Great views.
  4. @StLouisCruisersPrayers for Buddy and his family. @marshhawkThe wicker toboggans are lots of fun. The Terrace Homes at Ephesus are also very interesting to see, but there are many stairs. I have taken the train from the port to Rome, twice. Going that direction, you have to walk down stairs, under the tracks, and back up the stairs, to get to the platform. Hauling your luggage. Not sure if you have to do that coming from Rome. And, my husband had his backpack stolen getting off the train. So I would definitely recommend taking a car service. It is worth the money. When we did the Vatican we booked a tour. They picked us up at the hotel, and we got to skip the line in to the Vatican. Past the very long line. Sounds like a wonderful cruise. Enjoy.
  5. It has been several years, but Alaska is the only cruise I have been on where they had 'loaner' jackets/sports coats for those men not wearing one. I know you wouldn't see that today.
  6. That's too bad. It was beautiful. On our way back the ship sent a boat over to a small village with fresh produce and pizza and ice cream, and donations from the passengers and crew. @JazzyV Please be very careful with your leg. A 'cruising' friend of mine who lives in NZ has had 2 bouts of cellulitis recently. She was VERY sick the second time, and was in the hospital for over a week.
  7. We just paid for the Grand SA 2023 to get the discount. Not as much as yours will be but will buy a few bottles of wine. We too, are in a uxury inside cabin. Don’t spend much time there anyway.
  8. Thanks to RIch and Roy and all the others who contribute to this site. @dfishYour recipes always look delicious. Sweet babies. Is there a name yet? @StLouisCruisersSending positive thoughts for negative tests. @smitty34877I am sorry to hear Tana has had another set back. She has been through so much. Have you ever thought about getting an Instant Pot? I know you use your 'crack' pot. They are so quick, and make clean up easy. One pot. Soups ready in about 1/2 an hour. Just a thought. As for gout.....someone else suggested cherry juice. My DH used to have gout attacks. The doctor told him to drink black cherry juice, and it seemed to work. Now he takes cherry concentrate tablets and hasn't had an attack in years. They can be found in health food stores. So much better than taking the gout drugs. I will celebrate International Yoga Day. My DD recently opened a yoga studio, and had the ribbon cutting ceremony last Saturday. @ger_77 There are chair yoga classes. @rafinmdThe studio is in a building that originally housed a fire company. It is on the historic building registry, near the city hall in Brockville. Honouring the building, it is Engine House Yoga. Heading out to pick up DGS from school, and meds for his sister, who has pneumonia. Of course, DS is out of town, so we try to help DDIL.
  9. Yes. Cannonballs or other offerings from the Dive in are a must try. The $7 or $9 fee is per cabin. Another choice is 'by the bag'. It was $20 or $30 per bag, depending on where you are cruising. They are cloth bags and you can stuff a lot in them. Roll larger items and then stuff smaller items like socks and underwear in. Never had anything ruined.
  10. Sending prayers and positive thoughts for a full recovery.
  11. @HeartgroveMy condolences to you and your family on the passing of your sister. May your memories keep her close in your heart. Prayers for your brother's surgery.
  12. @durangoscots Oh my! Read this to DH and he asked if I wrote it. Currently doing major renos to the bedrooms, and sorting. And sending those pictures to my kids. And then it is off to the thrift store. And my sister......when she moved from a house to an apartment, I got a huge box filled with things I told her I DID NOT WANT. LOL
  13. @dfishGlad to hear all went well today. Take it easy tomorrow.
  14. @dfishWill be thinking of you tomorrow. Heal quickly. Thanks for all the great recipes you post!
  15. Thanks so much for your reply. Our doctor said he would give us letters. He said he wouldn't personally get the vaccine. I'm sorry to hear you tested positive. Hope your symptoms are mild. Feel better soon.
  16. Thank you for your comparison. Always good to hear about other lines. I have a question on a different topic for you. I read somewhere that you did not have a yellow fever vaccine for a South American cruise. Just checking to see if you had any trouble with HAL when you didn't have the shot. Did you have a letter from your doctor? We are booked on the Grand South America cruise in January, and being in our 60's and 70's, we would rather not have the vaccine. Thanks.
  17. For 4 weeks I would do it by the bag. They are cloth, and hold a lot. Roll heavier items like jeans and then tops, and stuff smaller items around them. Whatever you decide, it's a great service.
  18. The majority of workers in Dubai are expats. If you loose your job, you must find a new one within 30 days, or you must leave the country.
  19. I have no idea where any pictures are, (I admire all of you who are so organized) and wouldn't know how to post them anyway. Just wanted to say we spent a week in Dubai and a week in Abu Dhabi. Dubai was amazing to see, but we enjoyed Abu Dhabi more. It was easy to get around. The Big Bus has a good tour. We went to the Emirates Palace and walked along the beautiful waterfront. The Grand Mosque is beautiful, and should be seen. The old fort was undergoing renovations so we didn't get to tour it. We did a Dune Bashing tour in the desert, with dinner and entertainment after. The week went by much too fast. I was surprised to realize that the two emirates are so close together. You really can't tell when you drive out of one, and in to the other. And, for the Canadians. there were several Tim Hortons!
