Thank you for taking the time to answer some of my questions.

    To the others.

This was not intended to project a negative attitude.

Simply questioning information that I've read here on the Princess Boards.

We haven't looked into it that far for our first Princess cruise in Nov to Hawaii. But Jill had me book the GS on the Star Princess when our cruise date was changed due to a dry docking. So we should get priority.

  2. That's something different. Celebrating a birthday on a day that's not really your birthday is not quite the same. In your case tell them you are celebrating you birthday, or purchase a birthday package/cake for the day you wish to use as you surrogate birthday. This year we are on the QM2 for my birthday. My response was for the OP, who stated they would be on a cruise on their birthday, everything I did on my birthday had a Happy Birthday wished to me by the staff.[emoji322]

  3. Taking my first cruise with Norwegian for my birthday! My question is, if I inform them that I'm celebrating my birthday will they do anything special? When I booked I forgot to check the box that asks if your celebrating a birthday:(

They already know it's your birthday. If you're cruising solo, I'm not sure what would happen. For my birthday my wife ordered a birthday cake when we booked. The concierge sent us a bottle of wine and the HD comped us a free dinner in Cagneys when the cake wasn't what my wife ordered. We were in a deluxe owners suite, so that may have helped.

  4. We sailed on the Crown one year at Thanksgiving. They had a full traditional dinner in the MDR and all the regular turkey day offerings in the buffet. We were on St Martin on Thursday so I don't know if there was football on MUTS but they did show the OSU v Michigan game the Saturday we embarked.

Well you know they do have to show "The Big Game!" [emoji41]

  5. They had them in the buffet one day on the Pacific. There wasn't any thousand island unfortunately, but it still tasted good.

Do you mean there wasn't any thousand island available on the ship? I can say NCL seems to always have thousand island dressing available.

  6.

My final thoughts on the Norwegian Dawn.

I can only compare the New Dawn to the Norwegian Star, her sister ship.

    1. I love the "New Look".

I'm not a fan of the bright colors of the old Norwegian decorating scheme.

    2. Switching the location of Le Bistro and La Cucina. Works much better.

    3. The layout of Gatsby's is better on the Star. The Cigar room and the stage next to the bar on Dawn makes the room feel much smaller.

    4. Los Lobos is a great addition. I hope it gets expanded to other ships.

    5. The La Cucina menu has changed for the worse. I doubt we will eat there again.

    6. Moving Moderno upstairs to the old "Star Bar" and expanding O'Sheehan's really improved both spaces.

Though I do miss the Star Bar. The Mojito bar is a great replacement.
Need a Good Drink? See GARRETT at the Mojito Bar.

Overall I think NCL has done an excellent job renewing the Dawn. She feels like a new ship.

Of the Norwegian ships I've sailed on the Dawn is now my Number 2.

I still count the Norwegian Spirit as my Number 1 but the Dawn is close.

I Would like to thank everyone for following.

I will still entertain questions as they pop up.

Mark, totally agree they have ruined the La Cucina menu. The choices are terrible for appetizer, entrees and soup. I guess NCL thinks they made a good move, but it wasn't even worth is with the old UDP that made it free.

  7. pia1913-Pastrami sounds just as good!! Love that I'm not the only Reuben fan here. Hard to believe, but the best Reuben I ever got was in Libby, Montana, at the White Knight Pub. :)

My best was at the Chicago Deli, across from the Cleveland Clinic, in Cleveland, Ohio of course. Unfortunately they're gone now since the Clinic expanded and bought the property for more clinics or parking. After that I like Zingermans Deli in Ann Arbor.

  8. Rounding up the Star's "capacity" to an assumed max capacity of 2500 passengers, and giving them a bountiful US weight of 250 lbs. each, means the maximum weight of passengers is 312 tons. This is about half of one percent of the ship's displacement, or actual weight. The difference between a full load of passengers and none at all would be about a half inch of draft.

Not really sure how more people makes it less safe to go faster.

One thing to note is 2500 is double occupancy figure. That 2 people per room. Most times the ship is over 3500 passengers.

With a displacement hull the only real thing that effects speed is time out of dry dock (a clean hull is faster) and horsepower. You lose an azipod you lose hp.

  9. Hypothetical situation:

Day 5 of 7 cruise to the western bahammas and you land in good ol Cozumel for a fun filled day in the sun. You get off of the ship and do your shopping/excursions. You return hours before the cruise ship is designated to leave to find that the cruise ship is gone.

There was a medical emergency on board the ship that caused the ship to have to depart early.

    What are the next steps?

A "Western Bahamas Cruise to Cozumel ?" Never heard of one.

  10. My wife and I love forward suites and have almost always been in one. (We did a Haven suite on port side once).

We do not get seasick so the slight motion in seas does not bother us.

Our last Transatlantic, we had a large front penthouse and it was great. Our freinds had aft penthouse and Ownsers suites and the vibration from the engines due to running high speed at night made it uncomfortable for them.

  11. How about that NASA has tracked that a previously unknown asteroid has been tracked heading for the earth. It's anticipated strike point is the city that the OP is going to be in. They have just enough warning so that if the ship leaves NOW, the ship might survive even if not everyone in the city survives. Does the OP get back to the ship early just in case this scenario occurs or does he stay in the city and die.

    Stay tuned!!!

    DON

Lets see, you proposing an extinction level event.

DOES IT MATTER whether you die in port or at sea?

  12. The ONLY way a cruise ship would leave port early would be due to a SEVERE weather emergency, such as a hurricane requiring them to get to sea to ride it out. But in this case they would most likely never enter port if there was any chance of this. So it's not a realistic question.

  13. If you have been on the Breakaway, what was your experience with cigarette smoke? I am used to the casinos being so smokey I cannot go in them, but I'm reading more and more accounts from people saying that smoking is allowed in many areas on the Breakaway and it is very noticeable. I'm particularly interested in the Waterfront area. Is there a smoking and nonsmoking side, or is it a free for all??

We were in Bermuda on the BA. On the second day it was a monsoon. Everybody came back to the ship and the casino (LITERALLY in the middle of the ship in an open atrium) it was just one huge cloud of smoke. We went back to the Haven where there was no smoking.
