  1. So far, only the Epic, Breakaway and Getaway have iConcierge functionality. I think it's unlikely that the older ships will ever offer iConcierge access.

I think they will if they get an upgrade to the wifi on board. It wouldn't be an expensive retrofit. Most likely it would be during a refit/overhaul.

  2. Hello all. I just booked my first transatlantic cruise. I've never had to occupy myself for 6 whole days at sea. Two, yes... but 6? I assume that there are things to do, but I'd like a better idea of what NCL offers cruisers for that length of time. Thanks in advance.

If there is no roll call for this cruise, start your own rollcall. You will find many others for the cruise.

  3. I don't want to ask for more than I should expect to receive - I would tip of course! I just hate unpacking lol. We're staying in a suite on the Pride of America for reference.

It is only listed as follows for Garden Villa, Deluxe Owners Suites and Owners Suites: (S1, S2, SA, SB catagory suites.)

upon Request Butler will un-pack your luggage.

For all other suites it is not listed as a perk.

If you aren't in that level suite it shouldn't be expected, but you could ask for it.

  4. They used to sell pretty decent models of the ships, but that was 20 years ago. What they have now is a very poor quality (almost toy like metal or ceramic model). It is complete and painted to look like the ship. The hull is not accurate and it's probably mass produced in China or a third world country. They are not what I would call a model. But then I build real models and am a member IPMS.

  5. Part of the logic behind different muster locations is to prevent overcrowding at the lifeboat stations UNTIL the boats are ready. There are crewmen assigned to each boat and they are responsible to lower the boat to a loading position. Then the passengers are to get in.

I read a lot of speculation from people on this and that for this thread. How many of you walked down each lifeboat, each location for liferafts and locations for life preservers outside of those your cabin?

I did and will continue to do it when I board a ship. I am also always aware of any emergency exits when I'm in a building, airplane whatever because you don't want to waste time in an emergency.

  6. On our recent cruise on the Jewel we mustered in the theater and roll call was taken. I showed my wife our lifeboat station like I do on any cruise. If we fly I show her the exits and tell her stay with me in an emergency. She trusts me because I have years of training as a Naval Officer and I don't panic.

As for cruise ships, like the Navy the first thing they practice is fire fighting because you can't just walk outside to get away from a fire at sea. After that it would be engineering caualties and then flooding type caualties because thats the order of any likely problem.

On our last cruise during one of our days in port we came back early and got caught in the fire drill. While I wouldn't try to compare them to the sailors in the USN they seemed compitent enough from what I saw.

  7. My wife liked the over door shoe holder, for our last cruise. But she only wore about 3 different pairs of the 7 or 8 pairs of shoes she brought. One thing is we bought a set of luggage that came with all the different cases nestled inside each other sort of like one of those nestled dolls. For the three different rolling bags we nestled one empty one and so we had one complete extra for all the things we bought.

I brought a back pack with me to carry for my Canon 5D and every day I copied my memory card to my laptop. Extra Memory cards are nice. The other purpose of the back pack was so my wife didn't see her anniversary gift. I hid it under all my camera equipment.
