Thanks for the reply.  I’m very familiar with the S Class but just wondered if a hand washing station might have been added.

I was recently on the Silhouette.  They did add a hand washing station on one side in the aft of the Ocean View buffet at the beverage station. The two aft beverage stations were closed the entire 10 night cruise but the hand washing sink was available.

  2. We did not use this company, but in case you need another recommendation, we used RomeCabs.  We used them for transportation to/from the airport and Rome and to/from Rome hotel to Civitavecchia, as well as for a full day in Naples with a guide for Pompeii.  They were fantastic. Every driver spoke English, was on time (actually a bit early) and had beautiful Mercedes vans (there were 4 of us). They respond quickly to email as well.  We used them this past June/ July.  They were a bit cheaper than RomeInLimo, who also have a great reputation.

  3. It's $6,700 for the four of us and that's cruise only. We still have to fly out to Florida.

This cruise has Star Wars characters on it and my son loves Star Wars. So, my wife asked me to price out a cruise and see if's it's feasible. For $6,7000 and probably another $1,400 for flights...I think not...

I don't know if you've ever been, but in St. Maarten there is a place called "Planet Paradise/Yoda Guy Exhibit". It is owned by a man named Nick Malley I think, and its a jam packed little museum with lots of Star Wars stuff. The owner worked on Star Wars and other movies and answers questions. We took our two boys there a few years back and we all really enjoyed it. You can look it up and read reviews and see photos. Its right on Front St. in St. Maarten. Just a suggestion if you take a cruise that stops there.

  4. So I could cut them out then? I have the clear luggage tags, but they don't seem to fit the folded up tags (too bulky).

Guess I will give it a whirl, and if it doesn't work I will plead ignorance and ask them to put them on at the port :)

You absolutely can cut them out and put them in plastic holders. We've done it several times. It is quick and easy. Enjoy your cruise:cool:

  5. Should also mention that if you book before the cruise you do not get to choose the first restaurant. However, once on board you can change whatever has been assigned. I will also add that on our cruise the specialty dining restaurants were pretty busy every night of the 5 we dined in them. It probably varies by cruise but I would definitely take care of reservations that first day on board to ensure you get what you want.

  6. We just did this in February. We booked a 4 night package about a month prior to the cruise. Were told to choose our first specialty dining for either the first or second night and a time. We chose the 2nd but when we got on the ship were given the first. We simply told them we wanted it changed and they gave us what we requested. Once on the ship you book all the remaining nights. I was concerned about availability but it was not an issue. They had plenty of reservations available. We actually decided after dining in Tuscan night 2 we wanted to go again the last night and they added a day and prorated our meal price as if we bought the 5 night package. We changed times of meals a couple times as well and it was quick and easy. Reservations can be made at a table as soon as you get on the ship, or they have a desk outside the buffet or at the restaurants themselves.

The benefit is the price per meal is discounted more with each night you buy. We were buying for 3 of us so it offered us pretty significant savings.. As far as booking before you get on the ship, I did it because I heard that they limit the amount of packages they sell. Not sure if its totally true but we don't mind paying before and we knew we could cancel before if needed.

  7. If anyone is wrong, it is you. Those penthouse cabins are PRIVATE areas, not public areas. Only the occupant of that room can use it, while everyone else on board can use all public areas. If they can afford their luxury private suite stateroom, good for them. They deserve it for being successful in life. But, on this new ship, a large portion of several decks are reserved only for suite guests. These are areas where the majority of passengers are not allowed to enjoy. Most will be banned from ever entering those areas, clearly because they aren't rich enough.

This is indeed a case of class system, and not a case of irrational envy. More and more area is being taken away from the majority and given to the rich.

I don't think they are "giving anything away to the rich". Those who can afford it pay quite a lot more than we pay for a balcony cabin. But I look at it this way, the people who pay tens of thousands for their cruise offset the cost for the rest of us who choose not to. I remember my dad telling me a few years back when we all went on the Silhouette together that he paid the same for that cabin that he paid for their cruise on Royal Caribbean Monarch of the Seas in the early 1990's. We took our first cruise in 2011 and just paid almost the same for our upcoming cruise this year. Just another way to think of this.

  8. We booked a 4 night package prior to our cruise. We picked either "day 1" or "day 2" and a time. You cannot pick the restaurant, they assign it. Once you are on the ship there are people stationed on deck 5 where you walk on and also a couple were up by the Ocean View Cafe, and they can make all of your reservations for you. They actually changed the day of our first dinner and we asked to change it and the restaurant and had no issues at all. They were happy to accommodate us. We made a couple minor time changes and such during the week which they also took care of quickly. It seems strange but it all gets taken care of in two minutes once you're on the ship. Enjoy.

  9. There is someone who posts on here who does excellent reviews and posted a link to their website with their recent November 2016 Silhouette review. It includes menus for bars, restaurants, etc. and is an excellent resource. Go to thepreismans.com and click on Silhouette 2016 cruise then there is a tab for menus. I'm sorry I don't remember their name here on cruise critic. Hope this helps.

  10. Hi,I don't know if it was mentioned yet, but a few years ago we took our boys the the 'Yoda guy museum" on Front Street in Philipsburg. If your kids are Star Wars fans its a fun way to spend an hour or so. Still left us time for the beach after. You can google "Yoda guy St. Maarten" and get an idea of what is there. We found it very interesting. Its not very big but it contains a lot of movie props, etc from Star Wars mainly but also several other movies.

  11. There is an excellent review by "Laurieal" from her cruise on the Silhouette. She says she used Yellow Cab in Fort Lauderdale from airport to hotel and hotel to ship etc. They have accessible taxis. I read this because my brother in law is now in an electric chair and we would like to plan a cruise with them.

She said Yellow Cab has a special line for wheelchair service. She also gives good info for the ports she stopped in . Hope this helps.
