  1. I recently had to cancel our cruise literally the day we were supposed to sail due to medical reasons. It was a Celebrity ship, but I would imagine the same rules apply? I called to say we would not be able to sail (also trying not to cry too much) and they were very helpful. Basically, I was told that as soon as you do not show, they refund any shore excursions, taxes, port fees, beverage package, etc. It was too late to cancel online. Before the cruise even ended, our credit card was refunded all of these charges. Then I just had to file all the paperwork to get reimbursed cruise fare from insurance company. Hope this helps.

So sorry you are going through this and hope the best for you and your family.

  2. We drink water all day long and have had various beverage packages. Regardless of which you have you can get the large bottles for the cabin to take back-which is what we do. You can always get one from another bar a minute later but we've never found it necessary. Even the waitstaff in the Ocean View Cafe (buffet) gets to know us and was automatically bringing us two large bottles plus OJ and americano coffees for my husband all at once. LOL

On Celebrity we have never found it necessary or worth it to lug water onboard with us. And I will say, I am picky about water, and the Solstice class ship water that is "free" is excellent tasting.

  3. Based on the deck plan, your bed should be by the balcony. The cabin is the last one on the "hump" so balcony may be a bit larger(deeper) than average. Should be a quiet location since you have cabins above you. We have stayed in a similar location on the "hump angle" and had no noise issues. The hallway is separate from the stairs/elevators. Noisy neighbors are always the only unknown;)

  4. I just did a quick search by typing in the ship and cabin number. There was a review of the same cabin on Eclipse..those cabins are in identical place on each ship according to the deck plans. The people said it was very quiet and seemed very happy with the cabin. Hope that helps:)

  5. There is no problem getting into the closet. In my boys cabin they always have the beds separated and it is fine. In my opinion, it is better with beds by closet because it is easier to access the balcony with only the sofa there. Otherwise you have to walk around the bed and also could disturb someone sleeping if you want to go out on the balcony.

  6. If you mean a cabin that sleeps three, they look exactly like the cabins you see in the photos on their website. If it is a triple occupancy cabin the couch (in most or all cases) is the third bed and is always by the balcony doors. Then just the two twins separated or made up as one. The couch looks like all the others that do not sleep three. The steward just puts a thin "mattress" that stores below on top and makes it up as a bed. There is an excellent review of the Solstice in Alaska from last year by LouTheGlue on here and I believe his cabin was made up for three if you want to do a quick search and take a look.

  7. You will be more than fine any time of the day in Celebrity's Ocean View Cafe (buffet) wearing shorts. The nice thing about Celebrity's buffet is the hours are better than on Royal and IMO the food is much better than Royal's buffet. In the MDR my husband wears pants and a polo or button down and is fine. The specialty restaurants are all "smart casual" everyday, so no "formal" or jackets needed at any time. The Silhouette also has a great restaurant Lawn Club Grill, which is outside, but covered/sheltered from weather. It is one of the specialty restaurants that my kids have always enjoyed. There is also Mast Grill out on the pool deck open all day until 6 pm, I believe and Cafe al Bacio has coffee/tea drinks and snacks from morning until late night.

Yes, they have special family staterooms, but not many. They are all located at the front of the ship and have a bedroom, living area, one bathroom and a second small bedroom that sleeps two I think. The second room is very small. We have never seen one of these cabins but have seen photos others have posted.

The Silhouette does not have all the extras like ice rink, etc that Royal has but we love it and the other Solstice class ships. There are many photos and reviews online to give you an idea of what the ship is like. Try Gambee's review on here or from his website ..just google "Cruise with Gambee" and it will come up. He has many great photos of the Silhouette.

  8. I'm not going to tell you whether or not to take your daughter on a cruise. People do it all the time. I never cruised until my kids were older so no experience with that. I did, however, travel with my kids from the time they were over 3 months old. I would say the best advice is to think of what it entails and then decide if you are comfortable. I would bring EVERYTHING you would need for the entire time plus some extra for delays, etc. Meaning maybe an extra suitcase with all the diapers, wipes, jar food, formula if you use it, baby tylenol, crib sheet and blanket etc. I wouldn't expect the cruise ship to be able to supply me with much. Also something to consider, is she a good sleeper? My kids woke frequently during the night, especially my oldest:roll eyes:

My kids were good travelers though. But a lot of that was our being prepared with toys, food, etc, keeping a schedule and still being flexible. Most babies love new experiences but some, like my niece, would scream all night in a hotel room. Many people will say not to take your child on a cruise or wherever , but once you have children all vacations are "working" vacations. LOL You just change your expectations. Only you know what you and your daughter will enjoy. Whatever you decide, enjoy, they grow up fast:)

  9. In 1170 bed should be by the balcony. We were in 1150 and bed was by the closet/bathroom. If you look at the cabins with a black square on the deck plan( which shows a third person occupancy), those always have the bed by the bath/closet. Then they alternate from there. It has always worked for me at least when figuring it out. So cabin on either side 1170 should have bed where you want it.

  10. Thank you :)

Wait, they have a play of the Producers? I thought it was only the movie format. That movie is just ridiculous!!! :D

LOL Yes! It was on broadway starring Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick. They are awesome together. My husband and I were lucky enough to snag tickets when it came out probably 14 or 15 years ago I want to say...It was quite successful.

  11. If you go back to Puerto Rico and have enough time, try and go to Luquillo Beach. It is the most beautiful beach! IMO of course. My aunt lives in PR and I spent many, many days there in my early 20s/college years at that beach. On week days there would be maybe 10 people there. The water is calmer than where you were near Old San Juan, and so blue and clear. It is near the rainforest, which is also great to check out. You just need a good amount of time in port because the beach is a good 45 minutes drive from San Juan, but so worth it. There are many images online if you ever want to check it out. I think the area is a bit more developed than it was 20 years ago, but still really beautiful. The rain passes over every day but ends quickly. There are lots of palm trees there for shade too. Its heaven! :)

  12. My husband and I have cabin 2178 booked on Reflection in May. He is an extremely light sleeper. I have searched cruise critic for information on this cabin but I haven't been successful. Can anyone provide input?

My sister and brother in law were in 2174 a couple months ago. She said it is really more under the entrance area to the Ocean View Cafe and they had no noise issues when sleeping. Hope that helps a little since it is close.

  13. If you go on youtube.com and search "Celebrity Equinox balcony" you can see basically what your cabin will look like. All balconies (except accessible) look pretty much the same. The main difference will be if the sofa if by the closet or balcony (they alternate generally as you go down the hall)
