Congrats on your DH reaching his 25th official cruise on Carnival, which is the first milestone level.  Just to let you know, you're not forced to use the discount on your next cruise.  It can be on any future cruise of your choice.  It will consist of 25% of the base cruise price on your DH's fare, not both, before taxes given as OBC.  So, if you paid say 1000 before taxes, you would get 250.00 as OBC.  The more expensive your cabin, the more OBC.

thank you!  Yes, after researching and taking to my PVP decided to book a cruise to Hawaii.  I'm so glad I decided to check out exactly what a Milestone Cruise was.  I hope to earn mine next!  Yeah!!

  2. We had a similar experience.  Hadn't traveled since the pandemic.  When on board, couldn't find where we picked up our gift, coupon for the sea day brunch drink, etc.  My husband had been given a white card instead of his Platinum one which was strange.  It said Milestone Cruise but nothing stating what it was. I had to search for the Milestone information after we returned.  Found we were entitled to a discount on the next cruise.  It was a hassle to check in for dinner on My Time Dining.  Sometimes we didn't get notified of a table for over an hour or so.  I guess we are set in our "old" way of doing things,

  3. I am thinking of booking an Alaska trip.  How long after I book on Princess website do I have to move my booking to a travel agent?  It used to be 30 days but not sure during this pandemic time.  Or should I book directly with the travel agent.

    Good Morning Everyone!

I am very new to the boards so please go easy on me. I am also new to cruising, just completed my first cruise last month to the Mexican Riviera on Carnival. I am trying tom plan a 2021 cruise to Alaska. I just assumed go to Carnival but everyone on those boards said to check other lines. I am so glad they did as I found a 14 days cruise from LA (my home town) which is around the same price as the 10 day cruise from San Francisco.

Since I am so new and only have the 1 7-day Carnival cruise under my belt, I was wondering if any of you can please explain the differences between the two. They always say the grass is greener on the other side but I would like to at least hear some advice for a a new cruiser.

Also, does anyone know when the 2021 14 day cruises from LA go on sale. I would like to purchase for mu wife's Christmas present but I dont want to rush things and over pay or make bad decisions. Does anyone have a good planner on Princess to contact.

Thanks so much for the help.

We have traveled to Alaska several times on both Carnival and Princess.  I found they are basically the same demographics, especially on the longer cruises.  The party atmosphere occurs moreso on the short trips.  Food is about the same, although we prefer Carnival, more live bands on Princess, entertainment comparable.

My biggest concern is port time and the time you get to spend at each stop.  You may find Carnival port stops are longer so you are able to get much more accomplished.   Carnival also has a special excursion on the Tracy Bay itinerary where you can board a special little boat and it takes you to the face of the glacier.  Princess also has the same excursion but only during select itineraries.

For us, port time is important.  We cruise to enjoy places we have never been to and like to fully enjoy the country.  Getting there on a ship is an added plus.

We just got off our first and last Princess cruise (have not updated our signature).  The comments are what we experienced and what was told to us aboard the ship.  It was a much older crowd, since it was 16 days long and after labor day so only about 15 kids on board (they skipped the beginning of school).  And many poorly ambulatory guests with wheelchairs, canes and scooters making it difficult to get into venues, getting on and off the ship etc.  And there was close to 2000 Elite and Platinum members so they have a big following.  You can read about the Elite snobs on cruise critic reviews, as we witnessed several instances ourselves.  So for these reasons once is enough for us

I have to agree with richandcindy,  on our first Princess cruise, when we were asked which cruise lines we had sailed and gave our answer, we were immediately looked down upon.  They had remarks about hairy chest competitions, bad food, etc.   Second cruise, we included Princess in our answer and things were a bit better.  The Elites are definitely cheerleaders.  Had to laugh though, as I did mention to them, Princess has a hairy leg contest!!

Rooms are smaller, showers are very tiny, food comparable.  Mainly an older crowd.  We complained as there were two scooters plugged in at the elevator lobby and people getting in and off the elevator were running into them all the time.

We really enjoyed the Hawaiian embassador program.  They were great!

  6. My favourite is my little convertible tote bag. I attach it to my purse and carry it everywhere off the ship. I think it would be a perfect little gift.

  7. Yes, it’s not a deal but I like to have my cruise paid for. Booze is usually the biggest unknown. Peace of mind is worth something.

I agree! We like to have everything paid up front and S&S assures we can have our beverages without worrying about the bill. Our 15 day Hawaiian cruise bill was almost $9.00. Had some OBC too. We were happy!

  8. I had a cruise hold in anticipation of the sip and sail. The morning of the sale the price was the same but it wouldn’t add the beverage package when I tried to book it on line. I called Princess, booked directly with them and she added the beverage package. So I am happy. The price has increased now.

  9. I received the offer too. I tried to read the policy and decided it was just an assistance policy. For example, They will assist in getting you new eyeglasses if broken, lost, etc., but charge your credit card for the glasses but shipping is free, they will assist getting your lost luggage but will charge your credit card for expenses...you need to be hospitalised for an unknown term, your credit card charged before they step in to assist you.

Please correct me if I’m wrong but read the actual policy. I tore my offer up. Good luck.

  10. The desired result and the rule are one in the same. It is a pool area - unlike the main pool - that is intended for adult use and not children. It has nothing to do safety or how old a person acts or looks - which IMO is an irrelevant argument.

It is simply the age that has been determined by the cruise line to be the cut off age for passengers who wish to be there - period. It is an objective decision, not a subjective one based on some arbitrary interpretation of the "spirit of the rule". It is intended to prevent exactly that. For the benefit of those adults who expect to not have children under that age to be there, that is the expected and desired result.

And I'm not sure how anything you try to justify regarding allowing those under the stated policy age could be interpreted as anything but advocating breaking the rules. I don't understand why you just don't accept that this is the policy and let it go at that. If you really have an issue with it you should be contacting the cruise line to make your case - and then they can respond as well with why it is their policy.

    Very well said.
