Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. We were on the Grand last summer to Alaska. There were free tokens in the laundry room for our use. I don’t know if that will be the case going forward though.
  2. I so happy to see this live trip report! We will be on the Sky next summer for a cruise to the Norwegian fjords and Iceland. We are so excited to sail on this beautiful ship, since our 2020 cruise on her was cancelled. I also love that you have an aft balcony cabin, as we do too! I believe we are on the Dolphin deck. Please let us know how you like your cabin location. Safe travels and have a wonderful time!
  3. We just booked a cruise with the premier package for next summer. Our primary reason for getting the premier package was that my husband prefers the higher end bourbons, but we were also enticed by the reserved seating in the theater. We had a very unpleasant experience years ago on a Princess cruise where we struggled to get a seat in the theater 45 minutes before the show. We eventually gave up and missed the show, which has never happened on any of our other cruises with other cruise lines. I do hope we can take advantage of the benefit that is included in the package that we have paid for without confrontation. We will definitely show up at least 15 minutes before showtime.
  4. In the fine print of the flyer I saw, it states that it is for new bookings only. But maybe I misunderstood. In any case, I am grateful to my TA for the re-faring. JulyAugLTO-TA-eflyer_FINAL.pdf
  5. We loved the Mt. McKinley Lodge. We did 2 nights at the Denali Lodge and 1 night at Mt. McKinley Lodge. We did not go into Talkeetna, because we were pretty tired from the bus trip and there wasn’t anything there that really appealed to us. There is a nice restaurant on site and we had a great evening enjoying the peaceful surroundings with cocktails and dinner. Although we didn’t sign up for a call about Denali, we still received a call the next morning saying Denali was visible. It was an unbelievable view. It was our best view of Denali the whole trip. I am very happy we chose to go there.
  6. I saved over $2700 on our June 2024 Norwegian fjord and Iceland cruise. It’s the best price drop I’ve ever received. But, we just booked about a month ago and maybe those prices were just inflated to begin with. Edited to add that I know it was supposed to be for new bookings only, but my travel agent managed to get the price drop for us nonetheless.
  7. Thanks to all of you! This was all very helpful. I think I will go for the aft cabin. I was just a little wary because, on one of our past cruises, we were right next to one of these service areas and it was where the steward very noisily cleaned up all the room service dishes at all hours. I will keep my fingers crossed that it won’t happen again. Again, thanks for taking the time to answer my question.
  8. My husband and I are booked on a Norwegian Fjord and Iceland cruise on the Sky Princess in June 2024. We currently have a D4 Premium balcony booked on the Starboard side (D715). I recently learned that there is a smoking area just 2 decks below, so I would like to move to either the port side or aft. There are several port side cabins available in this cabin class and there are 2 aft cabins, D730 and D731. We have had an aft cabin before and really liked it, but I am concerned that there is a white blank space between these two cabins. Does anyone have any experience in these cabins on any of the Royal class ships and know what this space is? Perhaps a crew stairway or storage room? Is it noisy? Also, I know that the aft balconies are partially covered on this deck. Has soot been a problem? I would appreciate any thoughts you may have and whether you suggest I go for one of these aft balcony or stick to the port side, which I know has the same size cabin and deep balcony. Thank you!
  9. We boarded the Gem yesterday in Trieste, Italy. We were originally supposed to be in Venice today, but were informed a couple of weeks ago, that we would not be going to Venice, but would instead spend another day in Trieste. That didn’t concern us, as we stayed in Venice a couple of days prior to the embarkation in Trieste. However, we saw this notice in the daily newsletter. Only those with the pre-purchased beverage package will be able to be served alcoholic drinks. There were many upset passengers at guest relations yesterday afternoon.
  10. We just returned from an Alaskan cruise. We had planned to take the Quick Shuttle bus from Vancouver to Seattle after disembarking. However, we discovered that morning that the bus had been cancelled. We had a bit of a scramble, but we decided to go to the airport where we walked up to the first rental car place we found without a long line (Thrifty) and we got a one-way car rental to Seattle for about $260. Maybe we were just lucky, but apparently one-way rentals do exist.
  11. We just got off the Grand last week. We were in a regular balcony room on Caribe deck. There is a desk right next to the nightstand and the outlets were on the side of the desk near the balcony. My husband brought an extension cord which was not questioned. It turned out he didn’t need to use it, as his cpap cord was long enough to reach from the nightstand across the desk to the outlet. Also, on each nightstand lamp, there was a usb outlet to charge phones, etc.
  12. We are on the Grand a week before you and received this notification from our travel agent several days ago: Please be advised that due to the closure of the forward berth at the Railroad Dock, Grand Princess will utilize the rear berth for the duration of the call to Skagway, Alaska on Saturday, August 13, 2022. Out of an abundance of caution, the path adjacent to the dock will be closed and a ship-to-shore water shuttle service will be available to enable you to go ashore. As a result of this change, wheelchair access may be limited. I haven’t checked to see what other ships are scheduled to be in Skagway that day. We were certainly relieved though, as we were really looking forward to the White Pass Rail trip.
  13. Thank you all for your responses. I am relieved that we can just play it by ear.
