    • Rapid Diagnostic Test (ID NOW): Within 24 hours

This is approved for Princess, isn't it?

It is approved by Princess. My wife and I had the rapid diagnostic (ID NOW) test done at our local Walgreens in October for our Mexican Riviera cruise on the Majestic Princess. No problem, Princess accepted it.

We are boarding tomorrow and I want to watch UCLA USC football while still in port and some other games during cruise.  What is best place to watch?

Here's a picture I took of the Double Down Bar on the Majestic Princess back in mid October to Mexico. It's a great place to watch sports, but I just hope they have your game playing on the TV's. We we're watching a NFL game there and they had the same game on every TV. They should be able to show multiple games on the different TV's which would be a lot better.

  3. Looking forward to following along since this will be the first cruise out of San Pedro since the virus outbreak. We have never been on the Grand Princess but are booked on it for May 2022 to Alaska. We are also booked on the Majestic Princess out of San Pedro on Oct. 16th, so any information from this live thread will be more than welcomed! Hope everyone has a "GRAND" time on the "GRAND PRINCESS".

Stopped at our local Walgreens yesterday just to check. Rapid antigen test is available in drive thru at no charge. Results in about 30min. What the status will be when I need it, nobody knows. I find it interesting and sad that the availability and cost vary so much in different parts of the country. Princess should allow either a test before arrival (3 day) and walk on, or provide a free test at the pier  and you wait for the results in a separate area. I see benefits of both depending on availability/cost. Best of luck to all in this ever changing world.

Musky Mike, I just came back from our local Walgreens pharmacy. You are correct, the tests are free and they have up to three different types of tests available. The rapid diagnostic test will have your result back in 24 hours by E-mail. Go to walgreens.com/covid for all the information to make an appointment. Make sure you enter your city and state for the nearest Walgreens to make an appointment. The site will show you all the information along with videos. Just enter your personal information along with a few questions, very easy. I hope this helps out some folks.

At least they are accepting the rapid antigen results. Trying to get PCR results on a test within 72 hours when so many fly in a day early and results can't always be guaranteed within 24 hours is a giant pain!

So true, had to rebook our flight on Southwest from the day before the cruise to the day of the cruise. Luckily Southwest let's you change flights with no change fees. We are on the Majestic Princess going to the Mexican Riviera Oct 16th. This way I can get the covid-19 test done on Wednesday and have the results by Friday before we fly out on Saturday the day of the cruise. I'm sure many folks are scrambling to make their cruise happen!

Hope you had  great cruise. Remember you from Hawaii in late 2019.

Looking forward to seeing you again on a future cruise.

willyoo, hope we cruise again in the future. We have met a lot of wonderful people through cruise critic on cruises. Our Hawaii cruise was one of the best. I'm glad everyone had a wonderful cruise experience on the Majestic to Alaska.

  7. I would think if your both lounging by the pool area and you both have the drink package, the waiter would use each person's medallion. On our one phone, we have both of us listed on the medallion class app, so why not make a separate drink order from each person shown on it.

Thank you so much for posting this.

Best to get the word from Princess. Had enough of the guessing & speculation & hearing that something in print was going to keep us off the ship.

A few of us have been given the same answers as you.

dog, I forgot to mention this, the nice lady from customer support also reminded us to bring our vaccinated documents showing we received both doses of the vaccine. She assured me their would be no problem boarding the ship because we didn't use the medallion app for our check in registration.

I hope more people complain about being forced to use this app so we can have the option of using our personal computers for check in purposes. I'm glad to hear other people are getting the same answers for not using the app to board their future cruises.

Yet this is the "official" policy set forth by Princess which states in bold print that the documents must be signed "no later than 24 hours prior to sailing ."

I have yet to see a slide that says otherwise.

I received another call back from Princess customer support concerning the "Risk Acceptance Policy". As previously mentioned early on this thread, I said I was not using the medallion class app and wanted to know if I should have concerns about this risk policy when I show up at the cruise terminal. She said no problem as I will be able to accept it and fill out all necessary check in forms when I arrived at the cruise terminal to board the Majestic Princess in October. I felt a lot better hearing this from customer support. Just thought I would pass along this information for all us non app-ers.

My next question is:  luggage tags.  In Ft. Lauderdale (where i almost always sail from) you must drop luggage off in from of the terminal and there is no where outside the building to get luggage tags.  If we must go inside the terminal and stand in line to get information downloaded, that is quite a dilema?????

(Jemnibabe), you will be able to print out your luggage tags on your personal computer. When you go into your Princess account for your cruise booking, it will show on the top of the page where you can print out your luggage tags along with your travel summary once final payment is made. Actually you can print out the travel summary anytime. Hope this info helps.

  11. I received a call back from Princess customer support about the E-mail I sent them saying I would not use their medallion class app for my cruise in Oct. on the Majestic Princess. I said I spend a lot of money cruising with Princess and if they don't allow me to use my computer to register, they should then have a backup plan to allow us non app-ers to check in and board at the cruise terminal. Well, this lady from customer support said I will not have any problems checking in at the cruise terminal to board. She said their will be two lines, one will be a GREEN line for everyone down loading and using the app and a BLUE line for those folks not using the app. She said the check in process would be just like we did before, but it could take a little more time. She thanked me for contacting them and said Princess appreciates my business. I felt much better after hearing from hear. I believe Princess will not deny good paying loyal customers from boarding their ships because we don't have cell phones or won't use their app.

I sent a E-mail to Princess yesterday complaining about being forced to use the medallion app to check in our information before cruising. I told them in the E-mail I spend a lot of money to cruise and don't have a cell phone and I should have the option to use my personal computer to check in with our passports & credit card, etc. Well, I received a E-mail back saying I should call Princess directly at 800-774-6237 and ask for an Ocean Navigator. I will be doing this later today to see what they have to say.

Well I tried contacting Princess by phone today to talk to a Ocean Navigator. I could not get through to anyone. Princess kept cutting me off where my phone went dead on their end or I got a busy signal instead. I tried several times calling. So I decided to E-mail my Princess cruise planner about being forced to use the medallion class app. I told her I would not use it and wanted to know what their backup plan for folks without a cell phone would be. I told her I didn't want to be denied boarding because I wouldn't or couldn't register my information on their app. She ended up calling me back and said Princess will have a line for us folks not having a cell phone or being able to check in before hand at the cruise terminal. We will be able to fill out some form there before boarding. This made me feel much better with her answer. Why can't Princess be more straight forward and let people who won't use the app know this option at the cruise terminal before boarding!

I doubt that it will do much good, but it never hurts to make your voice/opinion heard.  At the bottom of the Princess home page there is a "Site Feedback" button.  Maybe we can at least get the decision makers to think a bit deeper about what they are doing if enough people complain.  Another way would be to send an email to the higher-ups at Princess, but I don't have an address for that.  Perhaps someone can jump in here?

I'm also going to send a E-mail to Princess today and complain about the new check in rules to be done only on the medallion app. There is no reason it can't still be done on your personal computer. Come on Princess, passengers should have options on which way they want to submit their check in data.

LAX is horrendous to fly into.  You will need to catch a shuttle bus or walk to the pick up area with your luggage in tow.  The only exception is "Executive" car service.

Check out Shuttle2LAX to get from Long Beach to San Pedro.

Southwest is a good carrier, but rarely has direct flights to anywhere.

cr8tiv1, thanks for the links to lax-it and shuttletoLAX, these are very helpful websites, much appreciated.

This is exactly what we are doing, changing planes in Denver, and flying into Long Beach the day before. Southwest had no non-stop flights from Atlanta to either LAX or LGB, so we opted for LGB, since it's closer to port, and both flights were priced the same.

CineGraphic, I just checked fights to Long Beach from Milwaukee and back. Prices were higher for us to Long Beach than LAX, but coming home there was a real deal at $129.00 per person. I may grab the one way home and look for other options on different airlines leaving Milwaukee to Long Beach or LAX. How do you get to your hotel in San Pedro from Long Beach? I was thinking Super Shuttle or a cab, any idea what a cab may cost? We always stay at the Crown Plaza in San Pedro.
