    Hi there

What would you do if you booked a cruise and read negative reviews afterwards? People calling the ship not classy, over the top, etc.

I read that some people even cancel the cruise based on opinions of others? That's really sad no?

What is your opinion on this matter?

I believe half of what I read and doubt the other half . Most people on here wont cruise Carnival , its garbage  they are the terrible , whatever . I cruise and look for myself and let me be the judge .

It should be interesting to read this, I see there are a lot of responses already. My first cruise should have around the same time for our 20th anniversary, but I didn't want to to go, so I put it off 5 years and didn't cruise till 2006, then I was hooked and took over all the booking and planning.

I remember You I chit chatting several times about cruises  when I lived in Oh . life has now led me to TN . I am still cruising but My wife passed , and I now have a new cruising partner and last NYE was her first cruise so it was like starting all over again. Hope all is well with you in the Buckeye state .

  4. Sept 2007 we tried Royal On the AOS after several Carnival cruises , first cruise out of San Juan , we took at least 6or t more out of San Juan , I will hold all of them fondly in memories as my wife passed away last year of Brain Cancer. But God has led me on a new adventure and Now I am starting new adventures with a wonderful new women  On cruises that we never Did On Royal ,  Quebec City  this Fall and Alaska coming up this May . Life is an adventure live it to the fullest .

  5. Usually Yes  . I used to be TA , gave it up do to my wife having Brain Cancer , , I did it  cause I am control freak and like control of my reservation . But I always gave my clients some OBC you were allowed to give up part of your commission to and my agency would match what I gave you so if I gave you $50 they gave you that so you Had $100 OBC. Nice perk , Trust me agents don't make that much but if you come back it makes it worthwhile .

Depends on what they were doing.  Maybe the work on the upper decks was scheduled to happen the entire time of the dry dock.  Or, logistically, they had to wait because they were using those decks for staging items off and on the ship and couldn't start the work on upper decks until that had cleared.  These drydocks are very tightly scheduled.  Based on what they were scheduled to update and the long bouts of rain we have had in south and central Florida the last month, I'm thinking they just had a lot of work and the number of rain days far exceeded what they had planned for.

Thing Is I don't have a problem with any of it , It is what it is . If they are behind so be it . What I have  a problem with is if we get that letter next week … saying OH SORRY , and they knew this week it was coming . We lost an entire week of timing of being able of getting out there finding something else.

Exaggerate much?  Historically, Royal Caribbean has a total of 34 ships (26 current and 9 former) including 5 that are less than five years old. Based on years of service, even if I count all the required drydocks (once every 5 years, then once every 2.5 years after a certain age, 20 or 25 I think) as "refurbishments", I barely get over 100 drydocks and most of those were simple marine inspections/updates with nothing major done on board.  Some of the announced Royal AMPings will not coincide with the required drydock schedule but still...

Ok they have done 100 the crews they hire have done How Many ?   Its like building a House you know how long each segment takes . That's why You schedule it in. They are saying weather has affected the upper decks , What its rained for a Month in the Bahamas . You wouldn't do the upper decks first when its nice or when the weather is nice ? But what do I know I just have common sense .

  8. I am the next cruise March 1st rumors are we are getting cancelled as well . I didn't even know it was going in for dry dock until a few weeks before it went in , too late to cancel . What makes me mad is that they hold us and our money hostage till the very last minute when they know if its going to sail or not . They have done HOW many refurbishments .. 1000s ?   They know exactly how long each section takes , they can tell today when it  will be done .  Well I have several booked with them and yes I am just one small person , but if enough small people leave … well .

  9. So this was my whatever cruise on a Carnival Ship I am Platinum but my  wife's first as we just started sailing together as we are both widowed. My first NYE cruise and first time on the Miracle. After a not so fun start as the port was closed due to fog and we didn't get to board till almost 10pm we got to our room and I had paid for fresh flowers and room decorations in  Vista Suite , which by the way was great ...5295 no vibration as people say they have , or very very little. The ship is in excellent shape , the crew was great . everything was clean as pin looked like new , my wife so impressed with everything from the food to the steakhouse . It was all great . The shows were very good the comedians were outstanding . I will have to stay I was so impressed with this ship for being one of the older smaller ones . Debarkation went so smooth we were able to catch an earlier flight home so that was good .Nice trip . Kudos to Carnival for making our vacation a great one.

  10. So I will be Diamond on our next cruise , I lost my wife to brain cancer who was my sailing partner for years and years . I met a wonderful women who is going to start cruising with me  but has never sailed . So I cant take her to anything to do with Diamond  events ? I understand people abuse the system , but we have 5 cruises booked with RCCL over the next year . But whatever . Its no big deal to me. I know Carnival will include her in Platinum status so I may just change them all over to Carnival .

  11. Hey all , So I have been on over 20 Caribbean cruises all fall or spring cruises with my wife of 35 years who was a beach girl and loved the warm weather sadly she passed away of brain cancer . I recently met a wonderful lady who has never cruised and wants to try cruising but we are going to try different times of the year of different routes such as Alaska or different things. Anyway was wondering is a NYE cruise much different than a regular cruise ? I know the route is the same , its a western cruise so I have all that covered with things to do. Just curious what do they do on the ship different Is it still decorated for Christmas ? . Will there be a huge party ? Just curious > Thanks all .

  12. Well, Steve, you've spoiled her for life. How do you go down from a suite! LOL. Just have a good time and let her tell you what she kind of time she would like to have. You get to experience all this anew. Have a great time! I'm so happy for you. I can't imagine losing my traveling buddy. Gonna give him a big hug tonight and let him know how much I appreciate all our good times.

Do That because life is short . Thanks all for all the nice comments and wonderful suggestions. I will take all of them to heart and make it a wonderful cruise for both us .

  13. So sorry for your loss.

I think the "don't oversell, let the cruise overdeliver" advice earlier was great.

If you're not already Platinum or Diamond, consider getting FTTF for your sailing if it isn't already sold out. Skipping a line or having quick access to your cabin would also enhance the experience.

I am platinum so we will get those perks , she jumps to the front of the line on her first cruise .

  14. So sorry for your loss...but I have to tell you that your post and responses just made me smile. Your joy comes right through! That alone is going to make for a wonderful trip.

We did NYE cruise last year. Each cabin received a bunch a cute hats, noisemakers, and decorations. Don't pay for it...you will get lots! Make sure you go to the countdown party too. It is a blast!

Other ideas: go to the Alchemy Bar and let her challenge the alchemists to make her a unique cocktail. Always fun. Play trivia games or bingo together.

Above all else, relax and have a great time!

Thanks and the joy she brings me makes me smile and trust me I didn't have much to smile about for a long time due to my wifes long illness. Oh I love the Alchemy bar and she loves a good cocktail so that will be fun. I googled the party and found some great youtubes so I now they will be fun . But I know we have a blast .. Oh and PS.. She is already planning an Alaskan cruise for us LOL

  15. I agree with a lot of the suggestions here to not overshare with one exception... make sure you give her enough guidance on what clothes to bring. If she's not aware of 'elegant night' or if you decide to do Chef's Table or want pics together, you may want to suggest that she mostly pack casual, comfortable clothes, but to bring 'one nice outfit in case we do something special'.

My friend's first cruise she didn't realize this and only brought cruise casual clothes and felt really embarrassed that she wasn't dressed to the same standard as the rest of us in our group on Elegant night. As a result, she ate by herself on the Lido deck for the second elegant night and nothing any of us said would ease her mind.

Ok your post made laugh , I'm not sure if mentioned it not we are in 2 different states so this a long distance thing for the time being so we are doing meet ups , she packs 2 suit cases for a weekend meet up . I cant imagine how much she bring for a week long cruise . But yes I did mention to her that she will need some nice clothes for 2 nights to dress up , I am even buying a new black suit to match her outfits cause I don't have one . Im sure she will pick ties to color coordinate us .
