  1. Check out the roll call from this year's May 21st Baltic Cruise. A lot of private tour info there.

We didn't do a single ships tour.

We used SPB for Berlin, Tallinn and St Pete's. We had a fabulous guide in Tallinn but our StP guide was so so. Heard everyone who traveled with TJ was really happy.

Heard good things about Friends of Dave if you don't go into Berlin.

Did a private tour in Copenhagen with Richard Carpen who is suggested by Rick Steves. It was good but a canal tour there is a MUST. Way better than in Amsterdam.

In Stockholm I suggest the hop on hop off BOAT. You come out from the ship and turn left walking to end of pier. It hits VASA (a must) -old town etc.

We took a shuttle into Helsinki and walked to rock church, esplanade park and Market square.

  2. Sorry, I thought that I mentioned earlier that my brother used his Verizon phone...on the Silhouette last May....with no trouble. :)

Verizon loaned him a phone that could be Internationally enabled because he had an older model.

Thank you. Well, went to Verizon and they were of little help. They would not set International up and told me that I would have to call Global. The rep did say that based on what my needs are, that I did not need to get a plan or package. All I need was for Global to enable my phone for International. He told me to be specific of my dates so that I do not keep getting charged.

Interesting....I just set my iphone up today. They can't charge you global if you aren't traveling global yet. Hummmm. I have your email and will forward what they sent me. If you are going to use your phone more than 15 minutes it would be beneficial to get the $4.99 global plan. You need to call "611" on your phone...that will link you to someone who actually knows something.

  3. Verizon will send you detailed instructions.

Sorry, that didn't paste like it should and I came back to edit too late. Basically:

    GermanyLocal

Dial Plus Sign then Country Code (49) then Local Number with Area Code (if applicable)

  4. Will do!

We will have to make local calls in Germany. I have my friends number. However, it starts out differently, than the Verizon site list for codes. Friends is 0049 + a really long number. I found one place on Verizon that says the code for Germany is 011. Another says 0049. I don't know which is local or what I have to dial.

  5. Larry - Extremely helpful post! :) And thank you for the link to the Verizon plans and charges. Now when I go into Verizon tomorrow, I will know my options and will not get roped into buying something that I may not need. ;)

I texted daily on our Med trip w/Verizon. It was something like 50 cents outgoing 5 cents incoming or opposite. I can tell you that they weren't necessarily immediate depending on where we were (middle of ocean vs. near a port). I know they have a plan (minimal cost) that will save you a little per minute on phone calls but since we don't plan on calling, decided not to do it. You can also get an international data package which is $25 per KB (?) but I was also told that if you don't plan to use data and then end up doing so, you can request being set up retroactively when you get home. I also confirmed today that if I have to call local numbers in foreign countries, I would still need to use country codes etc. They sent me an email regarding that but I am hoping I don't need to worry about that either. One simple text a day from home and I will be good ;)

Please let me know if they tell you something different.

  6. Nothing is bad or ugly – We’re at sea on Celebrity. :)

This is the first M-Class we’ve taken across the pond, and into day two, loving every minute of it.

    Here are some changes/observations:

Dining – We’ve been in Blu over the last few years, and first time in the MDR in a while. Dining times for first and second seating is 5:45 and 8:15. We were used to 6 & 8:30, and sometimes 8:45 in the Med, but never seen 8:15.

Food – miss Blu, but food in the MDR has been excellent.

More as the cruise goes on.

Glad to know the MDR has been good. Let us know if you have anything that is a "must not miss". :D

  8. I find this DIY port to be adding up in cost. We plan to do HOHO $40ish, Vasa $20, Royal Palace $23, Gamla Stan/changing of the guards. Total $83 minimum. Would it be worth it for our group of 5 to just take the ship's tour?

Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I see you are currently online but I don't know how to message you. What did you end up doing for this port??

  10. Does anyone know about 6183 on the Equinox? I've had a look at the deckplan based on the info in this thread and it seems to me that we will have a lifeboat directly in front of us - not that I won't have a brilliant time anyway!

    Lesley

    Hi Lesley

We will be in Equinox 6181 in June which is right next door to the one you have booked for March. Will be very curious as to what you find out :)
