    We are lo tech

All our dining, spa and excursion res are pre made.. Happy we were able to do all this online through the confusing Cruise Planner

Can we survive okay on board without this app..? We plan to leave our cell phone turned off in the safe and only use the tablet for reading..

I assume attendant will still leave hard copy daily schedules in our stateroom..correct?

  2. The new Security measures at the Port of Civitavecchia are complicating disembarkation for those of us going to the train station or rental car agencies. Private cars, taxi's and rental cars are no longer permitted to access the ship berth area. You have to go to a collection point and use the Port Shuttle bus. With luggage this is not as easy as before. I have asked the Captains Club desk to work with Shore Excursions that arranges the shuttles to FCO to offer a quick stop at the Train Station since its on the way to the Autostrada onramp southbound. They seemed interested to benefit those using the other services in the city of Civitavecchia including hotels etc. Besides a small fee is always good for shareholder value!!

Uggg. We don't travel until next year so hope they change this or somehow make it easier. It has always been nice to just walk off the ship and meet your private transport to either Rome or FCO

  3. Not sure if people are reading this post still, but maybe somebody can answer this question. How early can your flight can come in on the correct arrival day in order to still get a transfer and not pay diversion fees for flights? We have a possibility of arriving just after midnight and would book a room on our own as to have a room at arrival-but I’m curious if Viking would honor that as day of arrival. I was really surprised to hear how difficult they make it come in a day early as to avoid jet lag.

    Thanks!

  4. Wow, wow, wow. We are going on our 5th Celebrity cruise (Adriatic) in May followed by our first Viking River cruise in September. Our itinerary is the same as yours was but in reverse. The more I hear about river cruises in general, I am wondering now if I should have even booked it :( It is very pricey but I was lured in by the "it covers everything" line. It doesn't. Our airfare was additional, gratuities aren't included, and drinks are only included WITH meals. Also, I guess some of the excursions are rather short. Up until now I didn't realize all the meals at the hotels aren't included. If we weren't going with friends, I would cancel.

We have a bit of onboard credit. Can you give me a ballpark for optional excursions, or do you know if you can utilize it toward gratuities?

Thanks so much for this review!

  5. I have heard this port has a magnificent sail in/ sail away. We port at 7am and leave at 7pm. Can anyone give me an estimate as to how long the beautiful scenery lasts? We have early dining (6:15 before sail away) so am wondering how early I should get up for the view.:o

    Thanks

  6. We were on the Silhouette in October. A 50 minute Canyon Ranch massage was $145 but they will add 18% in service fees to that. I suggest you go there after you board-they typically have gift cards and discounts that they raffle off shortly after the muster drill.

  7. I thought that they had changed the Mast Grill to a pay venue? Not true?

Just off Silhouette last month. No charge. French fries were OK but the burger was so good that I went back again a few days later. I didn’t see sauerkraut for the hot dogs!?

  8. Which Princess ship did you take? I'm used to Celebrity Solstice class ships, and tried the Princess Ruby a few years ago. I was so disappointed and thought I wouldn't travel with Princess again. However, I decided to try to give Princess Regal a chance, and I'm trying that out next year. I've heard the buffet is amazing and closer to the Celebrity S-class experience.

  9. We did our first Princess Cruise last year for a British Isles cruise. Food was sub par and breakfast at the buffet always had cold food. We said “never again” but thought maybe we were comparing current Princess to our latest Celebrity experience which was 2years prior. Just got off the Silhouette and after the very first day, we confirmed to each other that there was no comparison-Celebrity was the clear winner. We won’t sail Princess again.

  12. This is the first time we have cruised with a drink package (classic). I usually bring collapsible water bottles to fill on the ship to take into port. With the drink package can we get individual water bottles (20 oz or less) to take into port as part of the package? Where would we get them? Any bar?

    Thanks.

  13. Sorry, unsure of their names, CD was English girl and Captain was Greek, he was very funny in his addresses.

In Marseille, transfer was 20€ pp,and Ibiza, 10€ pp

Trying to update Silhouette "who's on board" thread so if anyone from this cruise had more specific information it would be helpful.

We will be taking transfer in Ibiza-that does seem a bit pricey but if it isn't walkable I guess there is no choice!

    Thanks
