  1. Me and a friend have a cruise booked on the Carnival Fantasy on Oct 26-30th. The day that we will port at Cozumel is on Oct 28th at 8am. Question, I see two different excursions to Tulum, one being 109$ and the other about 90$ via Carnival . Would it be too difficult or not recommended for us to try and get to Tulum outside of the cruise line for a cheaper price for the both of us? Neither one of us speak Spanish and did not know if this was feasible or not.
This is one of the few excursions that ppl recommend you go with carnival so that if you are late getting back, the ship will wait for you.

  2. I don’t recall seeing this posted earlier. Here is an article posted on the Miami Herald sight this morning. A few more details.

No way. Article says kid was standing on tippy toes when she was bumped. No way could an 8 year old on tippy toes get bumped over the railing. No. Way.

  3. Wish they would develop more of the island and have room for two ships so we could go more often
Not going to happen, thank goodness.

They are limited on the development since most if the island is a wildlife sanctuary. I appreciate having a smaller guest load on this island, can't imagine it with 5 or 6 thousand people.

  4. All our ships have arrived in time and usually we get off the ship in good time. However, last year we flew out of Fort Lauderdale after leaving the ship. Because of all the other cruise ships also in port that day, the line for security was incredibly long. The line was so long it actually left one building, went into a walkway area, and into another building. Something to keep in mind. We were happy not to have an early flight.

my first cruise, I had wheelchair assist because of a medical issue, and the security line at FLL was over an hour long because of all the ships in port at Miami and Fort Lauderdale. We got to skip the line because I couldn't stand or walk for long periods. When we got to the gate, we saw two different families denied boarding because their seats had already been given away because they weren't at the gate 15 minutes prior to boarding. They were stuck in the security line.

ymmv, but I wouldn't chance it.

  5. I know a lot of people are "followers" of my extensive reviews (and I thank you) and hopefully the many places I have been (and heavy pictures involved) help many people out.

However, I have officially ran out of space (1 cruise and 1 land vaca ago) and can no longer add any more reviews to refer back to my signature line to help others out.

I'm not sure what to do at this point and I'm looking for help from those that find my reviews helpful on what they would like to see done.

Do I eliminate my "ship" reviews at the beginning of my signature line?

Do I eliminate some of the older reviews?

Do I eliminate reviews that I have noticed less than a handful of people have asked about this excursion or place?

I have already done all that I can as far as shortening the names, the fonts, and using shortened url's. Nothing can be done other than eliminating things.

I would like to see what you all think before I take action.

you could start a new thread, and list all your reviews in a post on that thread. then you could link it in your signature with a note that ALL your reviews are linked to that post, instead of your sig...on your new thread, just add your new review to the previous post and re-post it. that way your list is always up to date. :)

  6. So this will be my first cruise (cruising on Carnival Dream) and while we are planning on enjoying the ports, we are trying to vacation on the cheap and do not plan on doing any excursions. I do not want to have to purchase food in the ports so I am thinking about bringing some Ziploc bags to bag up some snacks or sandwiches or something from the buffet and bring ashore with us to hold us over while we are in port. Is this frowned upon? Are there foods available at the buffet that would make good snacks? I always bring some ziplocs with me any time we travel as they always seem to come in handy, and I have done something similar to this when I stay at hotels with continental breakfasts. Thoughts would be appreciated!
They always have small cereal boxes, yogurt, milk, etc. Try to take off prepackaged items, but no fruit.

  7. A few questions for a first timer. Going on the Noordam to Alaska next June

    1. Is there a minibar in your room? If yes, how does that work?

    2. Can you bring a travel mug and get coffee to go?

    3. Can you get a nightcap and take it back to your room?

You might try posting this in the Holland America board, you will get more answers there.

(in general, yes you can bring a travel mug and fill it with coffee, and yes you can take drinks back to your room)

  8. if its your first cruise, and hers, maybe look for an itinerary with a mix of sea and port days. it should give you an idea of what you like and don't like. Our first was a 5 day with 3 ports and 1 sea day. Now we tend to do seven day, 4 ports and 2 sea days.

I would recommend carnival, as they have the most options for southern cal and Caribbean cruises. If you want amazing beach days, you cannot go wrong with Half Moon Cay and Grand Turk on any itinerary. :)

Go into it with an open mind and some flexibility...before you know it, you will probably be hooked like most of us!

  9. OK...so I know some time ago there was a forum for packing. Since I can't find it, I'll ask this here. I figure for a 12 day cruise for 2 people, it would be a minimum of 96 articles of clothing, if you count a 2 piece outfit for day and one for evening. That doesn't even take into account all the underwear, swim wear, PJs, etc. What do you do? Do you take 6 days worth and then have everything cleaned halfway through? That would be expensive. Suggestions?? Thanks
    I usually make a spreadsheet. :)

I wear my travel outfit twice, so I usually use a thin tech fabric tank as a base layer. It washes fine in the sink.

I take a pair of shorts and a pair of capris and a skirt. Then I take two or three tanks and two shirts that go with at least two of the bottoms (preferably all three). Then I mix and match with items worn for dinner worn during the day later in the week. I take two sundresses as well, that take up hardly any room.

I also take one knee length little black dress. It is wrinkle free, so I could scrunch it up and it would still look great. I wear a blingy necklace with it the first elegant night, and blingy earrings and a tied-scarf kimono with it on the second. (The scarf is oversized and part of my travel outfit, and also works as a sarong)

I take three pair of shoes. Strap on walking sandals, slide on dressy sandals and tennis shoes I wear on the plane. I also stick a pair of flip flops in my purse.

All my clothes/shoes/accessories fit in a hard side carry-on. Everything else goes in a small backpack

My big weakness is swimsuits. Currently for our ten day trip in November, I have three bikini tops, one tankini top, four bikini bottoms, one full coverage one-piece, one short sleeve rash guard, two long sleeve rash guards and a long pair of board shorts. And five or six cover-ups/sarongs. I am trying to cut that amount in half. :)

I take a small bottle of febreeze, and even if I only wore something for a little while, I'll still give it a spritz.

  10. Not looking for a debate about book vs card, though it will happen.

Does anyone have any experience with Carnival and using a passport card?

Book was lost, but have the card and just curious as to any experience people have had.

As we all know, calling Carnival can produce different responses, that is why I am seeking actual experiences.

I used the card on our last cruise, about two years ago. Ymmv.
