Hi! My first time posting a question so hope I'm doing it right. We are considering a cruise out of Manhattan in January. Wondering if we can expect rougher seas due to time of year? We've cruised out of NYC in May with no issues. Just wasn't sure how it would be early January? Any insights are much apprciated!

You may get better results asking your question on the East Coast departuresboard.

Does anyone know what work is being done on the ship during dry dock?

On our Sept.06/22 Emerald cruise, the Q&A with Capt. Lye said that she was the 1st ship of that class to have received the upgrades to the buffet area etc and is now due for further upgrades to cabin lighting etc and routine maintenance.  He didn't elaborate much except to say that one of the biggest jobs will be to replace the tile decking around the pool areas which was an embarrassment to him.

Emerald was in very good condition when we were on with few signs of wear and tear.

Another Edinburgh resident here. The Hop on hop off bus is a really good suggestion for tourists. They go to all the best sights and give good information via the headsets. I wouldn't bother trying to negotiate the local buses right now. The routes are diverted and messed up by road works.

It looks like there are 3 Ho--Ho bus operators. Any recommendations for one over the others?

One more suggestion  --  In planning a recent cruise, it became clear that it was not a good idea to buy health and emergency insurance packages offered through the cruise line as the terms and conditions were all geared to American citizens, and American law. It was far wiser to stick with a Canadian insurer for health and emergency coverage.   The cruise lines and travel agents won't tell you that -- they're motivated by commissions.

As for cancellation insurance offered by the cruise lines (often rolled in with the health insurance), I'm not sure how their terms compare with Canadian insurance company cancellation insurance.  But I stayed clear of the cruise line's offerings and relied on my credit card for cancellation coverage.

Actually TA'S make a LOT more commission selling Independent Canadian polices than selling the cruise line's polices. You are correct though, in that the cruise line policies are geared toward Americans.

An exception is the policy offered by Princess. It seems to offer good coverage at a very good price.

Ok thx, I’m still waiting for a rep to return my call. Was told it could be 72 hours so maybe I’ll have more info by the weekend 🙄🤷‍♀️

Or stop by a local travel agency. Most sell Manulife policies and you don't have to book the trip through them.

I don’t know what I’m doing wrong because when I’m on Manulifes cover me site I can’t seem to find a way to get a quote on any non medical plans that include cancellation and interruption. C and I seems to be an add on to their plans…wish Celebrity would just extend their Covid coverage past this month like their parent company and this wouldn’t be an issue 🤷‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

It looks like they only show the C&I on the customer site.  I think that it is the same or very similar to the Non-med plan that shows on the agent site.

I'm the OP. I could cancel with Cruise with Confidence but only up to 48 hours before sailing. Problem is we need to test the day before sailing so that timing negates the CWC. Celebrity does have provisions in place for refunding if you test positive before boarding. Unfortunately, that expires on April 30th and they haven't yet indicated whether they're going to extend it. Strange because Royal Caribbean has extended theirs for an entire year.

Let's say that you flew to Europe a couple of days prior to boarding then tested positive on the antigen test taken 24 hrs prior to boarding. Under Manulife's PPP, All inclusive  or Non-med pkgs you would be covered under the Trip Interruption benefits.  Note that Manulife's C&I pkg is more expensive with less benefits that their Non-med pkg.

Can you let me know where these screen shots are from, these are really helpful.

Edit - I see now, these may be from a webinar.

Does anyone know if this information is anywhere on Manulife's website?

They're from a TA webinar this morning.

Manulife seems to have similar wording to allianz and i wonder if they are just trying to specify that it won't be covered if covid cases increase, you are only covered if you are actually sick.

You would need to provide the positive test result from a medical practitioner, lab, pharmacy etc not a rapid antigen test that you administer yourself.  The coverages may change if the Gov't raises the travel warning to avoid travel.

Thank you everyone for your help with this, @AlbertaCruisers and @latebuyerfor sharing your Manulife info and @LHT28for suggesting TIPS.

The way I read it, I think perhaps Manulife does not cover cancellation related to Covid. I could try calling but I've heard it takes forever to get to speak to someone.

Allianz was the insurance company I was referring to that I thought, if i was reading the policy correctly, did cover C&I for Covid. So I will follow up more with them.

Manulife (All-incl or Non-med pkg) does cover cancellation if you test positive prior to departure.

Thanks, @macmax. I will certainly consider them for their quarantine coverage but as far as I can see they don't provide cancellation/insurane. If I'm reading Allianz correctly on their website, I think they might, but not sure.

Was hoping some others might know, especially with Celebrity's possible end to their Covid refund policy.

Manulife also sells a Non-med pkg that includes C&I that can be combined with their Covid policy.
