  1. I have to admit I'm a little jealous I didn't get to start my vacation when you did. Here I am about to go to the gym, then to try on everything in my closet trying to see what will still fit so I can pack today. We leave at 6am tomorrow, headed to port!

Oh! how I wish I could be like you. I'm an "over thinker" and, would love to be a last minute club member AND, spontaneous to boat! ;)

  2. Walking back to our room just now (room 10250), I found this on our door. What the? Who the? But then neither my room key nor my WOW band would work opening the door. Yeah, that's because I was on deck 11. What an idiot.

Don't tell me I'm the only one that's ever done that.

While not yet on a ship it's probably in my future because of late I'm standing beside the passenger door of vehicles in parking lots as my husband walks on by! Then, if I haven't opened a unlocked door he sheepishly lets me know it's not our vehicle!

  3. Another thing your friend should do is just try to get out of Orlando, period. Do not limit her options to just fly to California, fly somewhere that is not in the possible path of the storm. Have her go to Chicago or Denver or at least some airline's hub. She will then have many more options to fly on to California later today or tomorrow. It is time to be creative.[/quote

Agree, It's Amazing Race strategy time!! Stay safe everyone.

  4. We have sailed in rough weather before being essentially chased by hurricane Denis a number of years ago. Cruise ship captains will do everything that they can to provide a safe and enjoyable experience. However, a borderline Cat 5 storm is not your typical hurricane and I am wondering just how well any captain can avoid some the the strong wave action that they are likely to encounter. Since OP is not a frequent cruiser, I would hate for you to have a bad experience which would turn you off to future cruises... I would seriously look at your travel insurance policy to see if there is a way to postpone this cruise to another time. If you do stay on the ship, you might investigate securing a cabin that is central and low... to minimize motion. That might at least make the trip more comfortable should you hit high waves.

    Good sound advice. Stay safe.

  5. This will be our home starting Sunday.

This will be our itinerary, unless Mother Nature has her way with us and changes our plans.

Now if you could just oust these folks out of our cabin before we arrive it will be all good. :D

CHANGE is good! Albeit, change in plans maybe not so good. How about adding one more to your crew. This neighbour, SW Ontario, Canadian senior lady could use a change. Wishing you smooth sailing even with change. :) OMgoodness, my ship has sailed! I must have had a few senior moments in date of sail... sigh.

  6. Indoor Pool - 8/20 Deck 14

We were on the Solstice during her first runs. We loved this style of pool! We were sailing as a couple then. Now, we'd like to take our 9 yrs old grandson on the Anthem but, I'm unfamiliar with which pool is adult only? May he swim in this one? :)

  7. Quantum Class continues to impress, Anthem is beautiful. From the sparkling geode mural mid-ship to the multi-colored works brightening the walls. This ship jump starts your day with an array of whimsy, comfort and modern appeal.

We arrived at the the pier by 10:15, a chorus of curbside check-in clerks nearby helped us early birds with our paperwork. WE breezed through security in a flash and found some seats to wait.

Note - Spa Junior Suite and Above - Seating Area. Make sure you ask one of the pier - side reps where the suite waiting area is, they do not direct you there automatically. At the opposite end of security

A rank of leather arm chairs beckon. Here too is a special access door that leads to the gangway.

    To Oz

We couldn't help but feel like Dorothy and Scarecrow as we sauntered up the rainbow hued hallway towards the ship at 11:30 am.

Michael's Pub Lunch plans were dashed when we learned that service didn't start till 1 pm. However, trays bestowing bright blue and orange cordials kept our moods buoyant as we floated off to Cafe Promenade instead.

Those little blue drinks are called Ocean Rita's, Margherita's with a splash of Curaco, boy are they good.

A couple of ham and brie sandwiches and a tasty square of cheese cake fortified us for our exploration of the ship. Anthem mirrors Quantum in her layout with alternate playful artwork adorning the walls.

    270 Lounge is a blockbuster.

This grand audiovisual arena pushes the high tech envelope. Pulling away from the pier and watching Cape Liberty shrink behind us through that massive wall of windows is simply breathtaking.

We cruised passed a leviathan container ship or two, the shores of Coney Island while powerboats zipped nearby. Off in the distance the NCL Gem cut her course for the Bahamas.

Our Muster Drill accomplished at American Icon, we met with some fellow Cruise Critic roll callers for sail away cocktails. While most high tail it to the top to watch Anthem slip her superstructure under the Verrazano Narrows, we opted for 270 Lounge. Captain Henrik informed us we would take it slow as we cruise east, but, our ship is clipping along right now.

The seas are calm, just a vast swath of inky blue stretched out before us. A convoy of popcorn puff clouds dot the furthest reaches of the horizon while a brilliant orange sun sends us on our way like an old friend.

Spa Junior Suite is a relaxing oasis, spacious, comfortable - home. Dynamic Classic has us at the Grand tonight. I believe another of those Ocean Rita's is in our immediate future as we set out for a wonderful evening on board Anthem of the Seas.

Awesome, smooth sail! Love, love, your description of the brilliant orange sun sending you on your way like an old friend. :)

  8. If you like rum, we usually take a walk up to John Watlings distillery, do the tour (which really isn't much of a tour) then hang out in the tasting room and have few drinks. http://www.johnwatlings.com/ there's a map on the site - easy to find, the walk is a little uphill

Also down the street is Graycliff which has a chocolatier and they make cigars. IMO the cigar was much better than the so called Cuban's you get on the island. http://graycliff.com/

I'd do this because we've been 3 times, and was unaware of these two greats!

1st time walk about, and back on ship. Then, weather turned it into another day in port so... We went on an excursion to Paradise Island, Queen's Staircase, and the Fort.

2nd time we went over to Paradise Island on our own, and got to experience the rush hr return, our Cabbie was reckless.

3rd time we were in port with among others Oasis, had our 6 yr old grandson with us. We TRIED to simply get his passport stamped. Managed to shop in the Friendship Bldg. Then, high tailed it back to the ship. The worst part of that experience was holding his hand so tight because he could have been bumped into the water by the masses! :(

  9. I have 107 days to my cruise in December, made the final payment a week early, and getting super super excited. Must remember to breathe.

Any one else go through hyperventilation when it comes to the last few months before your cruise?

I'm always ok right up until packing then, I get anxious, always get butterflies and worry I'm going to forget something really important... sigh. This has not gotten any easier with 4 cruises gone. :(

Enjoy your cruise, and best wishes for a smooth sailing!
