  1. That may be part of our problem. I wish we'd only been there 3 times. I've personally lost count. At least 10 times on cruise ships, 2 times on land vacations, and I don't even know how many times for work.

But with the recent travel warnings from the Department State deeming the crime rate in Nassau as critical, I've lost any desire to set foot there again.

From the Department of State's website:

CRIME: The criminal threat level for New Providence Island is rated as critical by the Department of State. New Providence Island has experienced a spike in crime that has adversely affected the traveling public, with a spate of violent criminal activity between 2009 and 2015. Armed robbery remains a major criminal threat facing U.S. citizens in The Bahamas. The U.S. Embassy has received multiple reports of tourists robbed at gunpoint or knifepoint in tourist locations in the downtown areas of Nassau, to include the cruise ship docks and the Cable Beach commerce areas; several of these incidents occurred during daylight hours. Burglaries, larcenies and “snatch-and-grab” crimes happen in Nassau and U.S. citizens have been victims of these crimes. The U.S. Embassy has received reports of assaults, including sexual assaults, in diverse areas such as in casinos, outside hotels, or on cruise ships. The Bahamas has the highest incidence of rape in the Caribbean according to a 2007 United Nations report on crime, violence, and development trends.

That's so very sad, and really unfortunate for the people in Nassau who rely on tourism dollars. The last time we were there the excursion we booked through RCCL an of duty policeman was the driver.

  2. No changes just a very congested ship. My brother, and his wife take their Scrabble game. DH, and I pack rain wear, and use a ship umbrella if there is one. If it isn't too bad we get out there, and enjoy what is available.

On one cruise while in St. Kitts a local showed me how to turn the umbrella right side out! ;)

  3. In the 90's my brother, and his wife had gone on their first cruise. They shared stories, and pictures of the experience with mom. She wanted to go on a cruise but never was first financially, later physically able too. After she passed in 2006 we 3 surviving adult children had money she left us. So.. my one brother suggested we go on a cruise with our spouses in her memory. That was my first cruise fast forward 4 cruises later we are now addicted to sailing hook, line, and sinker.

One thing worth mentioning, Mom in all desire to sail I believe would not have liked it. She wasn't fond of motion, the smell of ocean air, or the sight of a lot of food (portions) at one time placed in front of her.

  4. Almost ended up with pj's only for disembark morning. A miscommunication between my "helpful" husband and myself had him pack pretty much everything, and place it in the hallway for pick up the night before. I don't recall now how I caught that one but I'm really glad I did, and very careful now.

I'd read somewhere about a passenger who resorted to asking by knocking on doors if others could donate clothing for him to disembark apparently his outfit was "interesting!". ;)

  5. I'm on that sailing too and praying we don't end up in Canada !!! I did this 3 years ago during Sandy and they sailed right through the eye. It was horrible. But once we got to Bermuda if was beautiful. Right now the forecast doesn't look good. Heavy sigh! But I'd rather be wet in Bermuda than freezing in Canada !

Ah.. C'mon it's not that cold up here eh! It's fall here not winter yet but, yea it ain't Bermuda. Best wishes for your sailing.

  6. Thanks for all replies. Our grandson is going to be 9. We took him on his first, and only cruise (Disney) he loved the Kids Club; This winter we'd like to take him on a RCCL but not if the kids "had" to go in the pools.

  7. Everyone at the table, as well as the wait staff stay together and move to a different restaurant each night. It gives you a different choice of menus, but lets you stay with the same group of people.

If it runs as smoothly as Disney's does I look forward to it. Now if they could do something about the drinks.. ;)
