  1. We sailed on Navigator for three 7 night cruises and Freedom on two last year alone and will be on Anthem in a week for the second time for 12 nights this year and there is no comparison between these for cold weather sailing out of NYC. I'll take a cruise on Anthem hands down over those other two classes of ships out of this port or for any other cool or cold weather cruises such as the Baltic or Alaska.

The Anthem's solarium and indoor Seaplex are vastly superior to anything those other two classes offer in respect to this type of indoor activities and the rest of the ship, like Two70, is better also.

Thanks so very much for your reply, and pictures. This Canadian totally agrees. :)

  2. Hi Toddcan. What sites do you use to track the prices? We are looking for ones to Orlando for our October cruise on FOS, leaving from TO.

I'm not Toddcan but thought I'd chime in. TravelAlerts.ca is one relatives talk about here. However, I've yet to see the great deals they talk about. :)

Hopefully, he'll come back, and enlighten us.

  3. Flights are very cheap right now out of Atlantic Canada..cheapest I can ever remember....some as cheap as $175 all taxes in to get to Florida each way...that's amazing for here...past year or so I haven't paid less than $300 each way...

Now if only cruise prices would drop...even to what they were a few years back...but with cruises full, sold out and still new ships being added it seems there is no lack of demand thereby driving up prices and lack of promo's or added incentives.

What Carrier is that? We are hopeful -$'s here in Hamilton, Ontario once the "No Frill Carrier" gets up, and running.

  4. 75 mph winds? Been there done that. You deal with it, and so can the ship. I agree with the captain. Obviously 150 mph is another story, and I do not feel the captain saw the potential for that, and once they began to develop there was no escaping it. Anthem is just not that fast.

Exactly! Apples 'N Oranges no comparison.

  5. We left at midnight from Central Islip and got to Westchester at 1:30. Not too bad a ride. I got a text at 3am cancelling the flight. I had no plans to go to Stewart, so my choice was a local motel or home. I decided the blizzard wasn't too bad yet, so we drove home. It was pretty slow going, but we were in bed by 5am. I only slept 3 1/2 hours. It was a tough stressful ride, but we tried. If only Jet Blue had cancelled 3 hours earlier, we wouldn't have left the house.

    :(. So very sorry..

  6. Thank you so much for this post. We are on Amtrak on Saturday from Buffalo to New York and I was worried about how that trip would go. We sail on Monday out of Bayonn . Delays I can handle.

Just curious have you done this before? What is involved at the border? Where do you get off Amtrak in N.Y City? We are from Niagara area, and have thought to make this cruise port in the future.

Stay safe everyone meeting ships this week-end. Happy Sailing! :)

  7. It's 10:17 p.m. I'm so tired - got up really early today. I can't sleep on this mattress, even with TWO crate mattress topers. My back is killing me already. Anyone have an idea about where I can sleep? It's going to be an awfully LONG week :(

If your staterm has the ceiling bunks what's on them? Maybe those mattresses could be brought down?

This situation would be a deal breaker for me as I'm a real grouch when sleep deprived.

  8. Thank you Patty and Dazzle, safety is my biggest concern. I think independence helps young people go into adulthood with enough confidence to be successful. He lives in a suburb of Houston and is used to walking home from the school bus, being at home alone, walking to friends houses and parks ect. My thinking was that it's a ship, so a rather controlled environment with only so many places he could venture and I would always make sure he knew what areas we would be in and if he couldnt find us to return to the cabin. (common practice when cruising with the rest of my family has always been to leave each other messages in our mailboxes or slipped under the door if plans changed.)

We will be in suite accommodations (RS) so he will be sleeping on the sofa, but likely wont even pull it out, we will just ask our cabin attendant to make up the long end of the sofa for him. (he can sleep in the back on my pickup truck stretched out for a six hour drive and never even know when we get where we are going) Im under the impression he wouldnt be allowed access to the concierge lounge during cocktail hour, naturally thats appropriate and I thought to myself thats a great time to let him shower, get dressed and meet us for dinner.

Thanks again for your replies ladies

Please, please tell me him sleeping in a moving truck bed was another loose metaphor! Yikes!!

  9. Just off Freedom also. We also had the new mattress.

I guess it's just us but my husband and I liked the new mattress.

The pillows were not to my liking.

I did take my own pillow , so that was not an issue.

I'd never considered bringing a pillow on a cruise albeit I bring my own to hotels. I'll be BMyO pillow, and egg frate after reading this thread! ;)

  10. Sorry your not feeling well. The last cruise we were on my husband developed a head cold that ended up with him experiencing a loss of his voice for the remainder of the cruise. Everything he wished to expressed was written down on a note pad.. sigh.

Funny story about it we were on a Disney ship, and had our grandson (then, 6 1/2) with us. While my husband waited near the pool area for our grandson, and I to bring his lunch back to him; our grandson thought his gram had lost her mind because HE didn't like what I was ordering from the grill, and his Pa wasn't with us! so.. who was this food for. He understood with an OH! after I showed him the note; other pax thought it too cute.

The day we disembarked was not fun when we got to immigration, and he could not utter a word.

Fwiw, of late one of us almost always gets a sinuse head cold at some point during our cruises.
